Warranty: 1 Year Australian Warranty & Support

The lowly TP-Link gives 5 years, the higher grade Netgear and just about everybody else give Limited Lifetime. Is this hardware so bad that Ubiquiti only gives 1 year?

    • Fair point. I'd expect a $400 switch to last longer than 1 year!
I reckon you could dispute the 12 month limitation if pushed come to shove under consumer law, but it sure doesn't bode well if all they'll officially back it for is 1 year. Hard pass for me, based on the inferior warranty.

A quick Ebay serach and I found this guy:

      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/TP-Link-TL-SG2424P-JetStream-24-…

      $429 less 5% code = $407.55.

      24 ports instead of 16.
      190w instead of 150w.
4 SFP slots instead of 2.
3 years warranty instead of 1 year.

I haven't compared all the nitty gritty specs, but the TP Link looks better in every way imo.

        Tp link compared to unifi.

Different quality and management systems you get this because you already have a unifi set up and this connects to it. Tp link doesn't have that

TP-Link has upped its warranties to 5 years for the business line and 3 years for the home line for purchases since 21 January 2019. The TP-Link you found has a 5-year warranty. Even this baby switch has 5-year.

They're not that bad although I would like to see them advertise a longer warranty period. Last year I had an 18 month old US-24-500W replaced outside of warranty. Had to ship it to the States but was sent a new unit as replacement. That's the first faulty UniFi hardware out of the many I've deployed - full stack at work (switched from Meraki), offsite work locations, and at my own place. I've also helped about 5 mates set theirs up when they moved into new properties (bought with my work discount of course) - and everything still works.

It's totally up to choice just like phones. If you want something to complete your unifi set up ap, USG, cloud key, cameras etc. Go to another brand you have to manage seperately.

FYI i had a Ubiquiti switch die on me 18 months after buying it due to a lighting storm.. They replaced it no questions asked.. even tho it says 1 year they are very accommodating after that period. In saying that i had a netgear router i paid $300 for (R7000) and a offical firmware update bricked it after 2 years of use.. They would not replace it under warranty.. go figure..

  • I have a HP enterprise 16 port switch that has a lifetime warranty. I had it replaced when I accidentally dropped it a couple years ago when it was about 8 yrs old. Other then that warranty is only if the produ t is going to drop in that period

I still replacing that with a unifi switch

  • You go for this if you want the UniFi eco-system similar to this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DT2oqs0yxRE
