My favourite keyboard, so much that I have 1 in the office and 1 at home.

    Highly recommended.

Buy if you don't have 1 yet, but only if you can type with all 10 fingers.

    • But only if you can tolerate having the number 6 key on the left hand side. The left index finger is then used for the 4, 5 & 6 keys.

Interesting, does it cause alot of issues?

Yes if you are a properly trained typist. What looked like staggered keys on the keyboard are actually arranged in a left-leaning sloped straight line, with a clear division between left and right. Microsoft's re-arrangement is improper. http://www.typing-lessons.org/preliminaries_4.html

Both index fingers are responsible for an additional column, the one next to their home columns towards the middle of the keyboard.

Many people say the 6 key is equidistance to the T and Y keys (on a normal keyboard), so it does not matter if you use the left or the right index finger. They often quote the B key as a counter example. The B is vertically below the 6 with a tiny displacement to the right, but it is typed with the left index finger. It looks like a mistake, doesn't it? 6 is to the left of B, but 6 is right index finger and B is left index finger!

Some even say the B key should be typed with the right index finger because the B key is closer to the right (and also because their right hand is dominant and feels more comfortable). They do not understand that your hands are supposed to follow the slope and shift left as you go up the rows (and shift right as you go down the rows). These people do not realise the keys are sloped and not staggered randomly.

        • Yes, it has been an issue, hard to get used to it

  • bought logitech mx master 2s for office. i am a programmer do lot of typing. can anyone recommend me decent under $100 full keyboard plz

    • Blue tactile clicky switch mechanical keyboard, but only if your colleagues can stand the clicks. Otherwise Brown tactile non-clicky switch is a compromise. https://www.keyboardco.com/blog/index.php/2012/12/an-introdu…

      • thanks but can't get the blue switch.my colleagues will kill me particularly the lady that sits across me.can you suggest anything else plz..

        • Brown switch kb + O-rings

Actually the scissor switches used on this MS Sculpt Ergo kb aren't too bad. I have a blue swithch kb on my main and this MS on my secondary computers. The blue is vastly superior for typing, but the scissor action on the MS is light, silent and sufficiently tactile. It is an acceptable substitute but for the bloody 6 key, the small Fn keys, and the lack of distinct islands for the arrow and home/end/page up-down/insert/delete keys. (Don't buy if you hit a lot of Fn keys.)

Pros of MS Sculpt Ergo: The advantage of a ten-key-less kb without sacrificing the numeric keypad. Ergonomic geometry. Silent scissor keys that are much better than mushy rubber domes. Split space bar is nice. Can set kb to default to Fn or custom functions.

Cons: Small Fn keys. Scissor switches not used for Fn keys. Lack of distinct islands. Lacking a zoom lever that is present on other MS keyboards. Baseball-shaped mouse not to everyone's liking. The displaced 6 key.

Not too loud, going strong after 4 years of dev. Great keyboard. Super satisfying to use.

Was $60 not long ago. I got it for $120 4 years ago.

Also all those extra buttons are amazing, I have bound them to key combinations which are incredibly helpful, like "+=", "==" etc etc

  • these things are (profanity) awkward to use
