So like:
Sleep tracking.
Body fat measurement.
HRM.
Step tracking.
Snake oil is alive and well and more people are being duped more than ever.
But my Retina display…
Just a word of caution on "Thermo-Hygrometer"

In the case of Google Android perhaps people should just stop using the OS altogether given that it exists to feed data to Google. Location is the most important data and their large workforce of "rogue engineers" keeps making "mistakes" where Google records your location where they say they don't.
Crowded House warned us of this back in 1989 and we still haven't learnt.
Another case of 'who really cares?'
I think the government knowing where you live is more problematic
Google’s Science Journal will also do a lot of this stuff (magnetism, acceleration, decibels etc)
Looks interesting but not sure how much I would use them.
You can’t detect that with your phone or figure the speed of moving vehicles. These are absolute rubbish, designed to capture your data. Ditto with the weather app.
Stop posting this dumb stuff.
People believe their phones can read their brain's electrical signals or at least they're dumb enough to think their device tracks their sleep.
Exactly. And we shouldn’t be advertising this crap on here.
BA posts some great stuff. But these apps don’t belong here.
I agree. These are just posting for the sake of posting and point whoring. None of these apps are worth downloading.
Radar gun apps do not work, I've tried a plethora of them, and they are all garbage.
The thermo one has an issue where it gets its info from 3rd party weather sites and doesn't even go past 40 degrees. It isn't a function of the phone, It's just relying on weather information services.
Magnetic detector doesn't work. I've tried it. I know where there are wires in my house (I put them there) and it wouldn't read them. Other app users have noted the same.
Come on BA, you're better than this…
@pegaxs: Hmmm.
Mate, I wish I can test all the items before any making post but sorry I haven't used any of these apps so can't comment how useful these are. I rely on user ratings so posted as these got good ratings.
Phones infer sleep stage from your movements in bed (via the accelerometer). They do a decent job of it, not nearly as good as proper sleep study equipment but enough that it's useful. They can also measure your heart rate and HRV using photoplethysmography. Pretty ironic that you're calling people dumb while lumping genuine things in with the fake.
Only one of these that could even possibly have function would be the metal detector, and even that would be almost useless.
Curious about how they figure the speed radar would work.
Usually I love these apps for weeding out and exploiting ignorant people.. but I'm not sure how I feel about it targeting OzBargainers
Magnetic Detector PRO actually works exactly as it should, I am shocked! While other 2 were rubbish, the magnetic one is really working!
On the magnetic detector PRO
Nek minnit…
