      • Read my comment above :).
No delivery of modem and sim but they will activate the service within 14 days of Order date.

        • Hmm … I'm starting to get worried too. Its been 5 days now but no communication from them and the lines are always busy so I can't call during business hours. Looks like I should cancel before its too late. Also people seem to be having activation issues etc.. Maybe I'll go with Spintel instead, I've had good experience with them in the past.

          • @expatOz: Tio complaint solved everything for me

            • @0 0 0: Ended up cancelling. Will keep an eye on my usage and probably get Optus 200G which can be pooled and the device can be sold. Not that Exetel is bad, but their communication (or lack thereof) has not exactly inspired confidence so I'd probably use them for no lock-in contract in the future, maybe.

              • @expatOz: I agree. If you don't have issues, their service is ok. But if you need their help or to contact their customer service, it is almost non-existence (2-3 hours hold). Their sales team is quick but their support team is either short of staffs or way too many calls most of the time.
No lock in contract all the way and don't touch 12 or 24 months contract with this company.

  • This is insane. I tried to activate my sim but it keeps saying error and waiting time for customer service on the phone is like 2 hours :((((

  • I activated my sim card after very long waiting on the phone. My speed is like 5 down 1 up at noon. I think it's slower than the adsl service which usually gets me between 10-15 down and 3-5 up.

I will try a day or two to see the speed and if it is no good, i will cancel the service.

You NEED 2300MHz signal to get 12/1 speeds.
If your tower has 2300MHz (check OzTowers), you may need to log in to the modem to force it to connect to 2300MHz (Band 40) only

Hope all having a good Easter break.

I cancelled the service as soon as I find out the speed is way below than the advertised speed because they need 28 days notice for cancellation. Toady, I received following mail from Exetel as following,

    Hi xxx,

    Thank you for your call.

We have further investigated your query.

Your April month's invoice has been waived off and there are no charges applicable since the cancellation has been placed.

Further the modem was provided to you at a cost of $99.00 since you signed up as a Exetel customer.

However since you cancelled the service with us there will be a charge of $185.00 applicable since the actual cost the modem is $185.00.

Kindly return the modem to the address:

    WeConnect Technology Pty Ltd
    Suite 308, 282 Victoria Avenue
    Chatswood NSW 2066
    Attn: Exetel Returns

    Regards,

    Exetel Pty Ltd

They already took $99 +$1(card payment fee) and demanding $185 for modem again.

OP, I signed up this plan following your post but it causes me more headaches.

I should have listen to people saying stay away from Exetel.

Mate just go lodge a complaint with TIO. They'll sort them out. Good luck with it. I got mine cancelled, kept the modem for $99

      • Thanks for your advice. I am doing it now. How long is the process?

        • +1

Quicker than their response times to emails. Probably no more than 2 weeks to get it sorted

          • @0 0 0: Thanks again for your quick reply. I lodged my first ever TIO complaint. Hope I don't have to go through this kind of experience again in future.

            • @ozizoy: Telcos are really scared of the TIO so it's an effective way to get resolution. Good luck!

    • Is it really that terrible? How far are you away from the nearest 2300 mhz tower? I'm like 600m on one side and 1km on next nearest.

Maybe I might not bite on this deal.

I'm sure they could just send a prepaid bag and get the modem returned. Like old days of Virgin Home Broadband 3GB or something.

  • Is VOIP allowed on this service? I know of many complaining about voip on optus. I'm not sure if this is behind a CGNAT as well.

I'm thinking of getting this as a backup.

  • I wanted to see for myself about their service and billing system and I learned my lesson now. I have never experienced with any other ISPs requesting more money for their modem when I paid No lock-in contact fee usually $99.

I would not sign the No-Lock in Plan if I have to go through correcting the wrong billings and paying more for modem when I want to cancel the no lock-in plan because of their unreliable services

The lesson I learned is that they advertise very attractive deals but once you signed up the contract, they send you the wrong amount invoices ($100+$0+$1+$58.99) and requesting more money ($185) for modem if you want to leave.

Hope my post helps some people.

Thank you for reading and happy Easter everyone.

  • Random question…
Can you choose the colour of the modem? I like the black one more than the white one.

    • Yes. I got $3 ones from eBay and they work well. Need to tune them for optimal performance

I wouldn't expect much from them.

      I bought one of these
      https://www.4gltemall.com/4g-lte-mimo-antenna.html
which only made a small difference once I mounted it in my roofspace with "line of sight" to the tower through the tile and rafters.
It took my connection from around 15/10 on Band 3, 2 bars (no connection on Band 40) to 30/5 off peak (15/5 Peak) on Band 40, 3 bars.
which subsequently led me to upgrade to this
      http://onwireless.com.au/4g-3g-omnidirectional-mimo-outdoor-…
Externally mounted on my roof with line of sight to the tower 800m away.
This has taken my connection to 100/8 off-peak (40/8 peak) on Band 40, 4 bars

I'm happy with this as it's superior to my FttN NBN and I haven't committed too much financially with the inevitable upgrade to 5G not too far away.
Note that I'm connected directly with Optus, so I have no speed restriction like Exetel.

  • I bought an Amaysim SIM card which runs on the Optus 4G network and tested that Optus 2300MHz is available at my address and it works very well. But when I called the Exetel support people they informed me that I cannot buy the Exetel wireless broadband package because the service is not available at my address.

When I enter my address in to the Moose Mobile and Jeenee sites it says that Optus wireless broadband is available and they are reselling the exact same service as Exetel.

I guess I'll be waiting for NBN then although I'd prefer to have this wireless service.

  • How long have people taken to get theirs after ordering? Previously when I have ordered mobile services from other providers I get it within a couple of days, and assumed this would be the same.

I need this one urgently and have heard nothing….

    • Never got my service after waiting ages. Got the TIO to help get it cancelled

  • I am 800m away from the optus tower, will I get stable 12/1 connection?

    • Depending if you have perfect line of sight and can place the modem with an unobstructed view AND there's no network congestion.

      • I did a test with an optus 4g mobile sim and I was getting 80 plus. So is it safe to assume that getting 12 wont be any issue?

        • You need to make sure your tower has Band 40 (2300mhz) to get 12Mbps. If it doesn't have Band 40 it will be restricted to 5Mbps.

You can check using this link https://oztowers.com.au/Home/Query

  • you have to be familiar to go through TIO if you want to sign up with EXETEL. Even if there is no problem to cancel the service (Month to month), they make u a problem to pay more money. Thats the point where you lodge the TIO complaint.
