Thank you! I've been waiting for a deal like this.

  • +2

Thanks. Been waiting for the colour bulb starter pack and dimmer switch to come on sale.

Decided to take the 5% cashback and delivery convenience over driving to Bunnings and potentially losing out if Amazon ran out of allocation and the price went back up.

Here is a tip when you need to hold an order on Amazon for whatever reason or just wanna think twice before committing: use a gift visa/mastercard with insufficient balance or a totally fake card. They will give you a few days to provide a valid card before cancelling your order.

Really good prices over normal. Even the new spotlights that I haven't seen in store are on sale. Must resist.

    • Yeah….I put one of the light strips in my son's room recently (which is excellent on his bedhead), now I'm seeing all sorts of places around the house that we could use them. She said no more Hue, but I'm sure my wife would love it once she sees them, right?

      • +1

I love the led strips but just dont want wires everywhere to power them. How do you manage it? Thanks

        • +1

Well…the strip in my son's room is on his bedhead…I cut the strip in half, and cannibalised and old IDE hard drive ribbon cable to extend it such that I could have half stuck on the underside of the top board of his bedhead (facing downwards), and the other half behind the bedhead illuminating the wall. Ok…so it's a bit of effort, but the cabling is difficult to spot, and it's a beautiful effect. Probably took me about half an hour though, so that's not bad.

So really, I would only be using it in places such that I can hide any cables anyway (power unit is stuck behind the bedhead and plugged in beneath the bed). I would do the same behind our television unit in the lounge area, or behind the monitors in my office. From memory, the power unit is outputting 24v, and I expect that the brain includes LED drivers to regulate and 'pulse' the current to the LED's.

Of course…there's plenty of images online of them set up under kitchen cabinets or behind wall mounted screens…really, you're going to need a sparky to add a point for you in many situations. The strip itself is pretty ugly, and cabling is too, so you do want to hide them, for sure. There is a company that makes various adaptors and extension accessories for Hue, in case you don't feel like splitting and soldering old IDE cables yourself :o) https://www.amazon.com.au/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alia…

Seems cheaper to buy separate than kit. Eg 2 X white @$13.90 each + hub $38 is $65.8, kit is $75. That or the bulbs different.

    • There are different white bulbs. The "White" and the "White Ambiance" I just use the cheapest white personally.
See here for a video comparison.

      • +1

I'm referring to the $75 kit specifically which seems to indicate it's the white bulb.

        • I was thinking the same thing… are we missing something?

  • Can you join two 1m light strips together and do the downlights come in MR16?

    • You can extend the light strips up to 10m, but you'll need the 2m kit to kick it off (has the power supply and brain is in it). You could go beyond 10m I guess, but presumably that would exceed the current capability of the power supply and you might kill it - that or the resistance over the run of 10m of copper ribbon attenuates the power too much to run any more.

      Dunno about the downlight thing.

  • Do these come in Bayonet version?

  • For those looking to price beat at Bunnings, just be aware that as soon as they find out about the Amazon sale, they'll change the price in store to be 10 cents cheaper (the price online won't change, instead they'll just put a temporary ticket over the item).

You'll still get a cheaper deal and able to buy it today, but you won't get to "beat it by 10%" unless you're the first person to price match in that store.

    • When they price beat, can I buy as much as I want or do they put a limit?

      • I purchased 2 LED strip kits and they didnt impose any purchase limit. I also got the 10% beat as well being the first in Sunshine store in VIC to buy them.

        • Thanks

    • thanks for the info…so there is no point to try to do price beat at Bunnings now as they change their price tag in store very quickly?

      • If they are alerted to it, then yes they'll change it. But it means it's now cheaper than Amazon so you should still go past Bunnings to get it.

    • Their response speed makes me think it might be an automated task, at least when the price difference is big. I have priced beaten a roof ventilator which brought down the price by about $70, by the time I load the ventilator in my car their website is already showing a lower price. It only went back after a couple of days.

  • Can confirm Bunnings changed their prices to match Amazons. Amazon with cashback better deal.

  • +1

I went to Robina Bunnings in Gold Coast, instead of price tags was showing original price, at the counter price was changed to Amazon's. So probably they adjusted prices for all stores.

    • My local, Brendale QLD also matched the tags.

Good enough for me. I bought em anyway.

      Thanks OP

  • Rick Rolled, the one light that i wanted jumped in price as i was purchasing and now it's listed on the sale page but at full price. Every time i've tried to purchase from Amazon, something goes wrong…

    • It wasnt the non pendant Muscari was it? Checked the price earlier but couldn't buy during work due to meetings & by the time it was lunch, it had jumped back up to $359 even though it is still in stock. Very annoyed.

      • No i was trying to purchase the Aphelion, it seems like they added all the range and removed the ones they didn't want to put on sale instead of just adding what should of been on sale.

Got on Amazon chat, they basically said too bad.

        • Last time Amazon had a sale on HUE, the Aphelions were about $51, we went to JB (had 5% discounted gift cards) and price matched.

          • @Ferris-Bueller: Got a batch of the downlights for $47.90 when it came up for a few hours last night, then got another at Bunnings as they hadn't changed the price yet. I think this is the cheapest they've been?

            • @duwee: I think so… We got some at JB with the Xmas sales, think they were 30% off then and a handful again last Amazon sale..

We have 17 downlights stockpiled, we are building a house… I keep adding bits and pieces when they come on sale 😀

      • I managed to get 2 of the Muscari Pendants just after 7 this morning , saw the email from Philips and ordered them straight away…. They are hard to come by and almost never on sale.

Wasn't going to miss out this time.

Once the order was confirmed then i took my time reviewing the other sale items for other purchases.

      • I got it for the sale price - but it was pretty much just as it went on sale in the early hours of the morning.

  • Anyone know when they're releasing the "Play" bars here? I can't find anything on them and they're out in other countries.

Anyone given the outdoor bollards ago?

  • Bridge scanned at full price at my local Bunnings, price beat to $34.20. Win.

  • LOL.. my local Bunnings said they don't price match Amazon cause they don't have a
    Store front ???

    • They should have honored the price beat as it stated on the site that it’s for any online or physical store:

      https://www.bunnings.com.au/price-policy

      • correct, i couldn't be bothered fighting with the 80 year old worker. All mighty amazon will get my money now

  • Frustrating that colour bayonet caps are on sale but screw caps aren't.

    • What are you talking about? This is the screw caps is on sale while the colour bayonet caps is not unless i am blind

      • E27 is on sale in the starter pack, no B22. Individual coloured bulbs however it’s only the B22 fitting on sale, no E27.

      • White screw caps are on sale, colour screw caps aren't.
I've plumped for a colour screw cap starter pack + bridge for $139.99 and I'll ebay the bridge.

  • +1

Excellent thank you. It won’t let me buy more than 3 individual B22 white ambiance bulbs though. Be aware that maximum purchase quantities may apply.

  • I'm having an argument with Amazon.com.au at the moment, trying to gaslight me into thinking items don't apply.

The Philips Hue Muscari Ceiling Light was advertised at $249, down from $359. It was in the Philips Hue discount items promotion page.

This morning at 2am I added it to my shopping list where it still sits at $249. I go to add it to my cart now at 2pm, it's $359.

The customer support agent insists it's not part of the promotion when literally all the evidence I have shows otherwise.

    • Ah… sorry that was the pendant.

    • Same happened to me for a different Outdoor Hue product. They gave me a 20 dollars shut up voucher and that was it.

      • How did you get them to give you the voucher?

        • Started a chat session

    • Even the pendant has gone back up now. Pretty lame for a promo thats only supposed to finish at midnight tomorrow.
All thats roughly left over now is three kits, three Ambiance & five bulbs.

      • Spoke to soon. Prices back down. Hooray got my Muscari Ceiling Light @ $249.

    • I kid you not now 5:20pm it’s back down to $249 - this is after a spirited argument with customer support who insisted the promotion no longer applied.

Wtf is Amazon playing here? Pissing off customers who want to pay, not alerting them to availability and conditions.. bizarre

    • I got it for $249 at 1am.

  • +2

Prices seem to be going back up already. Ducked home at lunch to check what mount my laundry and bathroom needed and got back to find the motion sensors have jumped back up. I ordered the two white bulbs i needed for those two rooms, but will skip on the motion sensor until it comes down again next time. I wanted a motion sensor for both those rooms for the obvious reason. Our laundry is also where we enter the house from the carport so would be nice to automatically turn on when we walk in from the cars.

    • +2

Yea I was on the fence about ordering some more switches, gone back to normal price now oh well. Need a Xiaomi deal for the buttons.

      • Are the Xiaomi buttons Homekit compatible?

        • Sorry have no idea. I connect all my stuff through home assistant which the hue is compatible with.

    • Yep. Paid $26.90 for B22 ambiance globes an hour or two ago and now they are $39.

The three pack white and colour starter kit is still a great price. The bulbs usually run $70-80 each so 3 for $139 + the bridge is excellent.

    • Yes i was going to grab a couple more motion sensors too but they are gone.

I have them in the laundry and bathroom also, just note in the bathroom they may not detect motion through the glass shower screen if you have one. Doesn't make you popular with your significant other if the lights go out in the middle of their shower. :)

      • +1

Seems like the only logical answer is to remove the shower screen.

        • Sell the shower screen and buy more lights, its a win win :)

Just did a comparison of kits vs individual prices

Item Individual Cost Kit - Colour Ambiance Kit - White Ambiance Kit - White Basic Kit - Basic White with Dimmer
    White Basic $13.90 - - $15.16 $13.33
    White Ambiance $26.90 - $22.75 - -
    Colour Ambiance $52.00 $37.26 - - -
    Bridge $38.00 $27.23 $32.14 $44.67 -
    Switch $22.90 - $19.37 - $23.67
    Total - $139 $97 $75 $37

(uses individual cost to determine proportion of kit cost to allocate depending on contents of kit)

  • If there is something you really want, keep checking. The products keep coming and going from the sale section and the prices are flopping all over the place too. I managed to swoop on a sensor for $37.90 after I missed it this morning and it disappeared, then it came back at $55, the price dropped, it disappeared again and now seems to be back at $55

NFI what is going on. Maybe trying to make it hard for the price beaters?

    • Yeah weird things keep coming and going from the sale. I saw the wireless switch on sale when it wasn't earlier.

    • Yeah, I saw the dimmers switches going for ~$25 last night, but each time I added them to my cart they went back to $34 /shrug
