    review from previous deal:

i have got this for about a year & half and very happy with it. This thing works really well and has good picture/sound quality. Wifi is only suitable to access recorded media on the phone and to do all other settings through its app.

Attached Day time and night time recordings to compare:

(Select Video quality 1080P from Vimeo Player to watch actual recorded quality)
    Day: https://vimeo.com/318790432

    Night: https://vimeo.com/318791864

      Thanks, certainly acceptable quality.

    • So you cannot use a wifi screen to view live data if this was mounted at the rear?

      • no you cannot use it as reversing camera. Phone is only able to connect to Camera WIFI When you press button on the camera. You can change settings/view footage on phone through app . Also you can download footage/pictures on the phone memory through its app. WiFi in this camera only works as wireless media transfer protocol.

      Thanks for those samples!

It looks likes number plates are difficult to read at night. Otherwise super quality!

      • yeah i too noticed that. Light reflection made it harder to read number plates at night.

  • I am a complete knucklehead when it comes to car related things, is this relatively easy to set up? As in plug in and done? :)

    • +2

Yes correct. just need to plug in the adaptor in car lighter socket. Thats it.

      • +1

        Thank you :)

        • +2

and buy/insert micro sd card , of course

          • @dcep: Yes have a few :) Do you also know if the recording just loops over, so I wouldn't need to go back in and delete footage when its full?

            • +2

              @MeesusEff: auto-loop, no need delete

              • @dcep: Thanks! Gonna have a ponder as to how to wire it around :)

  • do these run on a battery or capacitor?

    • battery and no, none reported blow up despite many ozb owned it

      • +14

        Maybe they died

      • I need to get two cams for my mum but they won't be this one if it uses a battery. This is Australia and cars get HOT.

        • +1

blueskysea is your best bet for cheapest caps dashcam if you can wait for next deal post by neil at $60 ea

          • @dcep: Thanks phunkydude. I'm going to try the Blueskysea B1W. Looks good.

    • +12

Battery. A co-worker owned one, died in 8 months. (Cam not co-worker)

  • +1

Anyone is having issue on this product? In particular you will have to login to Xiaomi account before you can use dashcam?

  • +1

Does anyone know how to turn off the voice control? I have my music on and sometimes this thing thought I was giving a command.

    • Use ur phone to connect to the cam to change setting

    • if you can't find the option to disable it in the settings, update the firmware, and then look again. That option was introduced in a firmware update last year.

  • F putting a cable all around the inside of the car, either it should come with battery or the car itself have a usb port near the rear-view mirror

    • it's battery but won't last long unless you powerbank it

    • +1

gee you don't ask for much do you

    • +2

a battery operated camera on a hot day, is going to have your car looking like your avatar. So your other option is USB near the rear view mirror. Let us know if you ever find one.

    • +1

Not that hard to hide the cables if you know what you're doing. I tuck my cables into the edge of the roof trim, pillar trim and under the dash. The only cables you see are around 10cm near where it's connecting to the camera. I usually use a multiport socket extender that hides on the backside of my glovebox to reduce cable clutter.

  • Does Xiaomi make a DUAL Dash Cam for recording inside the vehicle as well?

    • +1

Viofo has a dual setup. It was on a deal here previously. I just got the a119s for the front only

      • +1

erm, he meant in-car uber cam as in 2 cameras in single unit, 1 for front view, another for in-car

not typical front + rear dash cam

  • Thanks OP. ORdered @ 34.90 delivered

    • 34.90 AUD?

      • USD. :)

  • +2

been use this for a year now,
the sticky pad can withstand summer sun, (parted out side 24/7)

    thus, can recommend.

  • Do you need to push a button or issue a voice command every time you get in the car to start it recording?

    • +1

Nope. Dash cams are designed to turn on automatically once they detect input power.

  • Does this record based on motion detection? Would it, say, record if someone damaged your car while it was parked somewhere and you were away?

If it has motion detection, would it work well as a simple cctv at home too? I like the video quality in the posted sample. (I bought a cheapish cctv unit for home, but it wants to record 24x7, and I only want to record when motion is detected but it can't do that. Plus the app interface is awful.)

    • no motion detection. continuous recording

  • Is the language in English? I have one the original one where it’s in Chinese. Even the startup sound is in Chinese too :(

  • Just bought one. Anyone have a recommendation on what card to use at a good price?

    • +2

Samsung evo+ for reliability, and they're good value. Don't cheap out on the card.

      • Do you happen to know if the dash cam has a max limit for the size (GB) of SD cards?

        • +1

Don't know for this dashcam. I don't own this one, I prefer cams that use a capacitor instead of a battery.

I have a Blackvue DR450 and a DDPai Mini, both with the Samsung 128gB Evo+.

        • +1

          from the manual:

supports standard TF card with the capacity of 16GB to 64GB and speed at Class 10 or above

I have a 32gb and it holds approx 3 hours of footage

  • Couldn't get more coupons because it said I got coupon before, but I looked at my coupons and none were valid :( got more $2.86 ones but when I go to coupons they were all grey /sad

  • Thanks OP. Code still works!
