eBay Seller Requests Feedback Revision, Should I?

Hi All

I bought a phone case from eBay couple weeks ago. It was called Shockproof Clear Gel Heavy Duty Tough Cover.

When I got the item, opened it, it was full of scratches and dirt. Apparently not a new one. So I sent some pictures and told the seller. I wanted to get it refund, but the seller sent a replacement. Fine.

After a week, I got the replacement item. However, it was the similar as the first one, full of scratches, definitely not a brand new one.

So I sent msg to the seller again, asking to refund. They didnt reply in the same day. So I gave negative feedback to that item and reported to eBay.

Now the seller contacted me, apologized. This is from the message : "Could you please reply us back if you are happy to revise the feedback to a positive one? We would like to issue a full refund. We will wait for your response".

So question is, should I revise the feedback? I felt that this whole process wasted 2 weeks of my time, all I needed was a working condition case to protect my phone.

Cheers

    Full refund is fair IMHO.

Wait for the refund first then revise the feedback.

    • This

    • Great thanks. This might be the best option at the moment.

    • +12

I wouldn't change the feeback to positive after that experience.
Neutral at best - after refund.

      • +1

Ditto. Its at least Neutral. Its NOT a positive experience for sure, which was purely the seller fault. I had similar case recently, got full refunds but seller was sending me wrong item twice (including the replacement).

        • I do the same, promise them a change once they fixed my error, refund or new item, and then leave the feedback as negative or possibly change to neutral, they shouldn't get away with dodgy practices in the first place, they'll just keep doing it

No. Chase eBay for the refund - you're entitled to this whether or not you decide to revise feedback (which is totally up to you).

    • +2

Definitely no, neg feedback is what seller deserves.

Looks they are trying to hold you to ransom - "revise feedback and we'll give you a refund". Against eBay rules.

Open a INAD case with eBay, get a refund, leave the neg feedback as is and buy the case elsewhere.

        Thanks.
Yeah they used that sentence which made me uncomfortable. Seems like potentially imply the logical relationship: revise feedback THEN refund. At this time they didn't send me return & refund request.

So I asked them again to clarify, they finally sent the refund request along with the feedback revision request.

I will probably wait for the refund, then decide if I would revise.

        • Don't revise. Unless your idea of a positive experience is to order an item, have it show up twice in poor condition. Then finally get a refund, and still have to buy the item from somewhere.

Would you want to buy from this seller?

Would you recommend others by from this seller?

Would you have wasted your time if the feedback for this seller reflected the experience you would receive?

Don't lie on feedback, your positive feedback would be a massive lie.

you had a working case it was just scratched/not new.

wait for refund and leave neutral feedback. "seller sent scratched case twice but provided a good solution"

reflects seller being crap (for sending scratched item twice - once maybe an error, but twice…) but you got your money back.

and as highanddry says -go through ebay dispute to money back

    • Thanks for your advise. Will wait for refund first.

Are you sure it was actually used? The world has many more cheap phone cases than phones. It's probably new but junk quality. Plenty of items on ebay are salvaged from industrial bins and manufacturing mistakes…the Kogan effect!

    • You have a point, it probably was new, but cheap small items like this may have been in a dirty warehouse for a while without any manufacturing covering so it looks crap by the time it gets to you.

Come to think of it, who has a stack of second hand phone cases to sell off to ebayers as brand new, the profit margin would've been so thin ..

If my reasoning was true, then it shouldn't actually be a negative experience (probably neutral). There was no lies in the product description, fully working, fully as described, does what it's meant to do. Negs can really hurt sellers on eBay.

Edit, I have no COI to declare

Edit, just read your later comment https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/445432#comment-7075142 - this sounds like a better way to go.

irs probably an ebay plus item.
just have it returned on behalf of ebay, and get your refund.

leave negative review as is. it was a bad experiance.
the seller attempted to fix, but failed and then gave up on you until negative feedback came in.

  • +1

No, they screwed you not once but twice then failed to respond they earned there negative feedback.
open a paypal dispute to get your money back.

They sent you defective items, both times!
Tell the seller full refund in 7 days or the refund request will be lodged with ebay because goods are faulty.
Why change the feedback… they sent a defective item… twice!

    • Cheers. This was exactly what I was thinking. However seller asked me to revise, made me thought maybe I did something wrong? But still I will wait for the refund then decide.

I'd be more than willing to revise my feedback, after the refund had appeared in my account.

  • Don't remove the negative feedback. It had the exact result it should have, and will warn others from purchasing from that seller. You'll receive a refund regardless.

    • -1

Or you can just revised into positive stars then change the comments to "seller is suck and a scammer blah blah but refunded, AAAAA+++++".

      XD

Sellers should be penalised for sending defective or damaged items to buyers, especially twice.

By revising feedback the seller not only gets away with selling substandard/damaged stock but other buyers may also be caught out and not all buyers will do anything about it or request a refund. Seller wins.

By revising feedback when a seller has done the wrong thing twice is removing the buyers option to warn other buyers and thereby defeats the whole purpose of having a feedback system

  • How much did it cost?

    • Just $8…

      • -3

For $8 i think you got what you paid for

        • +1

Not really the point though. Price is irrelevant IMO.

  • I would give neutral feedback after receiving a full refund

  • This is seller's newest message after I asked:" Do I need to get feedback revised to get refund".

    Hi

No, we would like to request you to revise the feedback, and we've tried twice and both times you've received wrong,

just think about, we've done double re-postage cost to send you the correct one. On top of that, we've received negative feedback.

And, unfortunately, you've received incorrect items twice. Our sincere apologies for that.

Now, we would like to issue you refund as you've received incorrect items.

so, the loss would be huge from our side.

However, we're sending feedback revise request, please revise it to a positive one.

Please return the item(s) to the following address.

    Return address:
    xxxxxxxxxx

Please make sure you are sending us a message after returning.

Upon receiving the message, refund'll be issued ASAP.

You don’t have to pay anything for return. please kindly use the same envelope to return us the wrong one. Just write RTS next to your address and make sure the return address is also written & then drop it in a red mailbox.

To be honest, I am still confused. Do I need to revise the feedback to get my refund at this stage?

    • Sounds like a seller that I've dealt with in a distant past. After I did exactly that, they claimed they didn't receive the return.

I opened a dispute with eBay and pointed them to the message (as I had no proof of return postage). Luckily they ruled it in my favor.

    • +1

"You don’t have to pay anything for return. please kindly use the same envelope to return us the wrong one. Just write RTS next to your address"

So now the seller is asking you to commit fraud against Australia Post. This is illegal

    • By the way, for such a cheap product, a good seller would just give you the refund with no need to return the item, after receiving proof it was damaged or not in new condition. This seller is planning on selling that case to someone else.

The former has been my exact experience with another seller on eBay. Even that seller got no or neutral feedback because I still didn't have a good experience.

eBay has a Feedback Extortion Policy and this seller is in violation of the policy.

    Feedback Extortion

Do not change your feedback and open an item not as described case. You should also notify eBay that the seller has violated eBay's feedback policy.

    • +5

      Cheers!

Good to know this policy! Talked to the eBay customer service. They told me "We will take care of everything".

Also the staff suggest me not returning item at all because it will "only make you deal with this seller more".

I got a voucher from eBay, now they will investigate this case.

Thanks so much. Let's see the results in the future.

      • eBay should have given you a full refund (they've a way to recharge that to the seller via PayPal) instead of a voucher though

  • +3

No F them, if it was a negative experience leave negative feedback. refund or not! This is dishonest and makes a mockery of the eBay feedback experience.

I do not use eBay at all anymore, to many of "Australian Posted" Items listed on the website that take 4 weeks to get to you. so obviously being dropshipped.

I had one not long ago, left negative feedback, and was offered the same thing. I said no it was a negative experience, opened a case with paypal and got refunded.

Please do not change feedback. as feedback is what I and many others that use it rely on. However I very rarely if at all use the site at all these days, because of the sellers wanting people to change there negative feedback to a positive one.

Open a case and report their behavior to eBay. I think there's some rules against sellers asking for positive feedback rating as condition for refund etc

  • I think the feedback should be honest. If you feel it was overall a negative experience then that's what you should date.

I got sent a faulty product and was travelling and needed it and left negative feedback and had a similar thing happen when I left negative review. Since I was away they couldn't replace it and they only offered half refund so I kept the negative experience because it really was for me.

  • No way. I left negative feedback because I got two annoying emails asking for positive feedback.

Offered a full refund I refused.
