  • We’re lucky enough in Adelaide to have those flamin’ lime scooters left everywhere for people to use. So I don’t see why these would be illegal in South Australia.

    • I was just thinking that, I think it's a great idea first used them in Christchurch.. no idea why these would be illegal, it's idiotic.

      • Government has to make money off them somehow!

    • I've seen 2 people in the CBD riding what looked like this Xiaomi scooter.

      • Unfortunately the exemption is only for like scooters. It’s a trial period and only restricted to the city.

Think of it as a trial, if Adelaideans can handle the e scooter maybe they will relax the legislation. Otherwise all non lime scooters will remain unregistered motor vehicles that do not comply to ADR banned on both sidewalks and roads.

Lucky in Australia we don't have sidewalks only footpaths. So we should be sweet

@Regie69: Ah yeah true, I guess the cops won't get you but the police will.

From 1 July 2017, a personal mobility device (such as a Segway or segway-type device) can be used in the ACT.

    • foot scooters are still banned though.

      https://www.accesscanberra.act.gov.au/app/answers/detail/a_i…

"Motorised foot scooters, miniature motorbikes (also known as mini bikes, pocket bikes or monkey bikes) and other motorised recreational devices do not meet minimum Australian design standards for safety and so cannot be registered. This means they must not be used on roads or in any public areas such as footpaths, car parks and parks."

Did anyone else purchase from this eBay seller? The scooter I received seems to be an unbranded copy / clone of the Xiaomi M365……

    • +4

Yes, same here. This seller is fraudulently misrepresenting the product as an authentic M365 scooter when it is clearly a fake. Obvious red flags included such things as:
      1) No mention of the product name or brand anywhere on the box, or product itself.
      2) Instruction manual makes no reference to the product name, and is cheaply printed and poorly written. It is also clearly not the same as the official user manual which can be found online.
      3) Instruction manual asks the user to download an app called "minirobot" to view data on a smartphone. The correct app for an authentic product is "Xiaomi Home"
      4) Scooter has an ugly weld where the diagonal bar meets the vertical stem. In the authentic product this is a single piece of aluminium.
      5) Ugly, mis-shapen weld where the diagonal bar meets the footboard. Unlikely to be safe.
      6) Mijia logo absent from footboard.
      7) Generic charger, produced by an entity called "Shenzen YongLe Tong Electronic Technology Co Ltd". An authentic charger would feature the "Mijia" logo.
      8) Incorrect number of screw holes (4) on rear fender. Also poorly constructed. Authentic product has three screw holes.
      9) Poor construction tolerances – the handlebar screws do not line up correctly and cannot be easily screwed in. Wrong size hex wrench supplied with which to drive the screws. These are not the hallmarks of authentic Xiaomi products.
      10) Strange configuration of power cables running from the handlebars to the front wheel.

I have not looked inside the battery compartment, but it’s highly likely that everything in there – batteries, motor, logic board – is also non-authentic. In summary, I have no confidence whatsoever that this fake product is safe, or that any future problem would be dealt with under warranty, as the manufacturer of the product is unknown.

I've lodged a dispute with Ebay, requesting a full refund, with any return shipping to be paid at the seller's expense. Next step will be to lodge a credit card dispute with my bank.

I rate this seller zero out of ten. AVOID.

      • I emailed the seller requesting clarification if this was a genuine M365 scooter due to concerns, all they replied was

        "Where do u hear that?

        Regards "

Very sorry to hear that, I reported the item on eBay and suggest everybody else do the same.

        • +2

Yep I just bought one (unfortunately didn't check here first).

          Fake as.

I have reported the item on eBay and have put in a return request.

Also sent him a link to this page :)

      • I did open up the battery compartment and and can confirm it doesn't get much better in there!

Where did this seller’s high rating come from? I mean, check the sales record of the item. Do you really believe there are 2 or 3 unregistered users with 0 fbs who bought hundreds of this items everyday?

Here is the message I received after requesting a refund:

    Block-quote
thanks for your message, as we mention it on ebay, this is special aus model, it has English manual and aus charger. we order 10000 item from xiaomi only for aus market, so it is different to Chinese version, but we can guarantee this is xiaomi product.if you want to keep it, we can offer partial refund, if you ship it back, we can offer full refund. Regards

    Here's how I replied:

    Hi,

You must think that I and the other people who have bought this scooter off you are stupid.

You're excuses do not address the other obvious differences, including no xiaomi branding, different welding, won't sync to app, different rear wheel guard mounts, different wiring, and who knows what's going on with the batteries …..

I require a full refund. Please note YOU are responsible (as stated in the return policy) for paying the return postage.

You now need to go to your returns dashboard, accept the return, and begin to arrange the postage.

I look forward to hearing from you.

    • Good luck. All the listings of this seller have been removed now. I guess you may need help from eBay directly.

      • Returned it and got my money back, so that's something. Bought a genuine one from a different seller. Up close the quality difference is significant

        • mdavis75 can you post a link to the genuine one you bought? I just don't have faith that I'm not going to get a fake again….

Exactly the same word for word response that I received when I raised issues about it not being an authentic Xiaomi product.

Isn't immediately offering a partial refund an admission of non authentic product.
