Have one. Don’t Love it, to get the best sound I turned off all the crap like ‘ surround’ and the dialog boost, just put it in plain stereo. But what’s the point then? Should have just stuck with decent bookshelf speakers with proper stereo.

    • If you have the dosh then get a Samsung n950! Amazing and I got it for $956

      • +8

Wait… are you saying a $956 soundbar that is more than 5 times more expensive than the one listed above sounds better??? Outrageous.

        haha, jks.

      • +2

While it's arguably the best soundbar you can get right now, people interested in a $200 soundbar probably aren't looking to spend $1000 on one instead.

        • Is Samsung n950 better than Bose 700?
          Anyone can comment?

          • @OneIdiot: Different use cases. N950 is better for movies/cinematic TV shows and bose would be better for general use + music etc.

            • @bert-lifts: I would call Bose sound signature adequate for music, but I would still prefer Yamaha sound if music is what you will be using it for.

    • Soundbars are for those that don't mind the audio compromises and want the slim form factor.

Bookshelf speakers are a better buy if you care audio qaulity.

      • The main contributing factors to my purchase of the YAS-106 (identical drivers as YAS-108) for ~$155 a few years ago was the fact it had a 3-way design and more power (watts rms) than bookshelf speaker’s in the same price range.
Yes there were compromises like setup curve to get sound right (placing in the centre of top shelf in bookshelf [to get a warmer sound directed to ear level] together with the settings ufoninja mentioned above), but I was very happy with the sound playing music in the bedroom for the last few years.

Edit: after recently moving the YAS-106 out into the living room with the shelf, there was a noticeable drop in sound quality in a larger room at volume and farther listening distance. The highs disappeared, the mids were muddled and the bass stayed the same. The result was quite unpleasant, after a few tweaks (switching clear-voice on, turning bass level down) I was able to achieve what I would call decent sound, but not the great sound I achieved in the bedroom listening near-field.

    • Yeah plus one for bookshelves.
I Just bought a Samsung HW-N650 and it's useless. The gigantic sub woofer is pathetic and can barely even be turned up louder than off. I've got the Logitech Z623 for my PC and they are just exponentially better. Honestly outrageously good speakers. For 150 bucks I can't even imagine what an upgrade of the Z623's would sound like.
They aren't even bookshelves and they are already better than one of the best soundbars..

      • Get some proper bookshelf speakers with a decent receiver and you'll be blown away even more :)

    • $0 with free $179?

  • Anyone used this with a Hisense TV? Can you control the sound and on/off from the TV remote?
I have a P6 and my right a left buttons for the TV turn the sound up and down for my current Samsung soundbar. Annoying when scrolling through Netflix.
Am interested if this soundbar does the same.

I have the ATS-1080 which I believe is the same, and a Hisense N7 from a couple of years ago.

Can't get the ARC or CEC working with the HDMI cables. I have to use the optical output only. Seems to be a common problem. The volume control on the Yamaha remote pauses and un-pauses Netflix on the TV. Bit of a bugger but it was cheap and sounds pretty good.

ARC doesn't work for me either - had to use optical

I've got a Hisense 58p5 and it works pretty well.

ARC works for me - so you can just use the Hisense remote and it'll adjust the sound fine. As Alan said, the Yamaha remote pauses and un-pauses Netflix which is annoying.

I bought a YAS207 the other day on sale, and our LG TV doesn't do ARC, and no volume control over optical :(

The hunt is on top find a different bar now… Apparently some of the Samsung soundbars use the TV remote out of the box, or can be programmed to suit

Currently using ATS-1080 with my M7000 and no issues. Currently using the optical cable

  • showing as $253 for me.

  • Its a YAS BAR

  • This is an excellent soundbar. With subwoofer is way better but for this price is a good deal. I just purchased one from Harvey last week and it delivers quality sound. Only for small room not good for big size room.

    • Yes apparently pairing the YAS-10# Series with a properly crossed over subwoofer has better sound than the YAS-207 (Yamaha soundbar that comes with sub) and many other more expensive soundbars which come with the sub included.

You may have to do some digging around but there are some comments on the sound of the YAS-107 paired with a sub in the avsforum thread.

  • For anyone who missed out, I have one for sale at $169 on the classified forums.
