Possible to Change between AmEx Card Families without Additional Application and Credit Check?

Just wondering if anyone here has successfully made a simple swap between Amex card families (e.g. Changed an Explorer/Platinum Edge Card to a Qantas Discovery Card; Qantas Ultimate to Essentials/Velocity Escape etc.) without having an additional application and credit check placed on your file?

I have phoned Amex twice and each rep gave conflicting answers regarding this (both however agreed that a simple swap without a credit check is possible within a family e.g. Qantas Ultimate to Qantas Discovery). Any facts to shed light on this would be appreciated. Thanks

    I have swapped from Qantas Discovery to Velocity Escape and had no issues/no credit check. Not sure on the other combos mentioned in the OP?

    Call again but this time tell them you’re interested in downgrading or upgrading within the Amex card family and they can do this without a credit check. Choose your words carefully and don’t use the word “cancel”. If you even mention that word, they have to comply with the new regs that prohibit credit providers from stopping you cancelling. Threatening to cancel is no longer going to get you a better deal or get you any bonus points! If you do cancel though, stay on the phone until after they process the cancellation then tell then you want to reinstate or reapply, but that will result in an enquire on your credit file.

    Also, you’ll have more luck if you don’t have an outstanding balance on your current card. If you do, pay it off first, then ask to transfer.

    You can only change your card without triggering a credit check by downgrading.

    EG is you have an explorer you can be moved to the baseline Velocity or Qantas card without a credit check.

    I have the Platinum Charge and when I called to do the same thing they offered me those two to move to as a product switch.
