Would absolutely love to adopt one but it seems most apartment block stratas don't permit pets unfortunately. Hope they all get snapped up soon.

    • sry, just a quick question, is only apartments not allow adoption ?

planning to buy a villa so it should be fine right ?

      • I'm not an expert but strata schemes can apply to houses that are built as part of a development too. I highly doubt you won't be able to have pets in your own house but make sure to read the paperwork carefully and/or ask the agent to confirm.

      • Mate, if you own the villa you will be able to have a cat.

Even with strata rules, e.g. my strata says you can have a cat with permission of adjacent units, and extras are at the strata approval.. but it's rarely going to be policed and they would have a hard time getting you to part with a cat. Many of my neighbours have cats, dogs, etc. Without issue.

The most common issue is people in renting situations, where the landlord is concerned with damage to their unit by a cat or dog. Even this is going away in some jurisdictions.

    • I notified my strata with intention of adopting a cat and they were okay with it, I've had my cat for 7 years now. My neighbour also has a therapy dog.

It all comes down to the individual strata.

I also have friends who are renting an apartment in Rhodes who owns a dog, they just had to pay an extra $20/week in rent.

If you're renting, check with your agent otherwise contact your strata directly.

      • Strata says no to any animals because apparently a cat fell out of a high rise balcony once, splatted on the floor and traumatised a passer-by. Not even a small fish tank is permitted.

Why would you pay extra per week for having a pet when it’s your duty to ensure the place is spotless and undamaged when you vacate anyway?

  • How many kittens?
Nobody wants to adopt an adult cat, sadly.

I adopted a 18 month old cat last week and it has its advantages it is already toilet trained and desexed but still cute and cuddly

Ah this reminds me, the lost dogs home in VIC (North Melbourne, Cranbourne) have a promotion until the end of March. Cats up to 6 months half price, cats over 6 months free. Hopefully people turn out and give these cats some homes.
