Are There Any Good Construction Jobs in Sydney?

I have been browsing Seek.com and Linkedin and there are only 1 or 2 jobs listed per day. Is the construction industry slowing down?

I'm a civil engineer with more than 10 years of experience.

Any input guys?

The number of people in building-related work shrank for the seventh consecutive month as prospective home buyers turned cautious, according to the Australian Industry Group/Housing Industry Association Australian Performance of Construction Index released on Thursday.

Total construction in seasonally adjusted terms fell 3.1 per cent over the quarter, compared with expectations of a marginal rise.

  • What exactly do you mean by construction? Do you mean blue-collar work digging trenches and laying concrete slabs, or white-collar managing projects in the office?

If it's the former then there are plenty of opportunities in Sydney. I spent about 7 years as a tradie and the money is very good. Like any industry though it helps if you know people. For me it got to the point where if my job got slow I could call a number of people and get a few days of work.

    • Yeah - networks is always a good thing. I'm more on the managing type. I better gather up some courage and connect with some old mates then.
