    It’s not working the code

    • see the start time

      deal is not yet active

  • I wanted to use this as an alarm but have decided not to get it now after reading reviews on how unreliable it is.

    • +8

Remember that for every 1 bad review you read on this type of device there are probably 1,000 happy users. Mine hasn't let me down once in the year i've owned it.

      • +1

Do you use it for daily recurring alarm? Do you set it to standard alarm sound or music?

        • Does it need to be connected to the internet for the clock/alarm to work?

    • +3

I used it mostly as photo stand and occasionally asked for weather condition and stuff. It’s to each own I guess.

Google may "forget" to tell you about the hidden microphone likes this Nest https://www.businessinsider.com.au/senate-lawmakers-demand-a…

      • +5

Pretty sure everyone buying this knows that a voice assistant will have microphones… ;)

        • I think you missed the point. Have you ever heard of Animal farm- George Orwell ?

          • +1

@frewer: Yes. Does it keep you up at night?

            • @eug: Nope, I do prefer to know history so that I can inform the next gen.

              • @frewer: So you're saying that because Google didn't mention the presence of a mic that was put in for future feature upgrades, everyone should know that a Google Home Hub has microphones?

          • +1

@frewer: I’ve read Animal Farm. I don’t see the connection. Do you mean 1984 - George Orwell?

        • +1

          That was 1984 Winston Smith!

  • I got one a few weeks ago, is good for kitchen, wife loves the photos and now you can see the counters counting down. Recipe reading is a gimmick.

  • Does it have any other use, than asking for weather and setting the alarm/photo stand? is it worth buying for $140?

    • +2

Home automation with additional devices / sensors.

      Jokes.

  • Wished they put JBL Link View on sale….. haha

  • Done.. ordered to be picked up at my local store. :)

  • Picked one up for $142.40 w/ C&C in store. Thanks OP!

Im tempted to get one, but I feel that I won't use it any more than my GHome Mini..

What I do want though is a soundbar that does Google Home built in. Apart from the Sonos One / Beam is there any other brands that does it?

    • I don't use my google home mini at all :(. Home automation can be done from phone.
So not really sure of attraction of this.

      • Main attraction is the sound quality I guess. My google home mini sits next to my living TV.

The TV speakers sound like trash, so it would be nice if the Google Hub / Home Max can be used alongside a TV or a game console to output better sound while at the same time, you can still shout commands at it and it will mute the TV sound while it is listening to your voice.

The only devices that do that so far are the soundbars, but they do cost quite a lot more than the smart displays.

        • No; i get the sound bar thing, good idea.

I am saying whats the attraction of home hub? - I want to buy this thing… but just can't seem to find anything that useful…
Already spent $40 for basically an unused mini….

@Ti-au: A glorified 7" photo frame that gets pictures from the cloud. I'm waiting for a 10" Google Home Hub Max because 7" for a photo frame is just too small.

A glorified 7" photo frame that gets pictures from the cloud.

To me it's the excellent screen tuning that sets it apart from all other photo frames I've seen. I have both the Home Hub and the Lenovo Smart Display. The Home Hub's screen makes photos look like actual printed photos in a photo frame while the Lenovo looks like a cold white tablet screen. The Home Hub manages the screen's white point and brightness really well so it doesn't stand out in a room, instead it blends in.

I'm waiting for a 10" Google Home Hub Max because 7" for a photo frame is just too small.

10" is probably good for a living room. I find even the 8" Lenovo too big for my desk and bedroom though - the 7" Home Hub is perfect. Nice and compact. I don't want it to be a centerpiece, I just want it to be "there" if that makes sense.

              • @eug: Yea, it's for my living room. If it's for a desk 7" would be sufficient.

          • @Ti-au:

I think it's one of those devices that will be really useful to some people but not so much to others. I use mine mainly to view IP cameras, as a photo frame with really good screen tuning, and do home control on the screen as well as by voice. My phone isn't always on me or nearby at home so it's handy to have fixed devices that are always there.

I have the 8" Lenovo one in my kitchen so I can watch videos while doing stuff there. It's really handy for handsfree timers too.

Without home control I probably wouldn't use my minis much either, apart from asking for the weather or doing currency conversions. :)

    • JBL is releasing a sound bar with AndroidTV built in. This means it would support the Google Assistant.

  • Got one, thanks

  • Grabbed charcoal but thinking chalk might have looked better..oh well

    • +1

You'll really only see the color difference from the back. They look nearly the same from the front as most of the front is the white screen border.

  • bought one, this is the cheapest I have seen. Good find op! thanks

Not sure what I'm doing wrong, it says code cant be applied?

    • Same :(

Checking out as guest did the trick. So not being logged in to my account..

      • This method works! Thanks!

        • This happened to me as well a while back. Check if you've got a AU address in the 'Registration address' section in your eBay account settings.

  • Thanks OP.

  • I've bought one of these at release and now also the Lenovo one too, prefer the Lenovo as it has great speaker and camera functionality. But this price is good for what it is.

  • Thanks for this, grabbed one to join my other two Mini's

  • Lowest price to date. Good bargain

  • Just bought, great price. Thanks!

  • First thoughts…it's tiny…great digital picture frame considering every photo I take uploads to google photos, the highlight seems to choose great photos for the most part.

I have it in the kitchen so the visual timer and shopping list is good.

  • Thanks OP. Bought - my first thoughts are the screen seems to be of a decent quality, and overall is well made. The speaker is maybe a little better than the google mini it replaced - so perfectly fine for most things although not the best for music. I've set mine up to use a chromecast audio connected to a decent sound system so that's not an issue for me though. The microphones appear to be more than sensitive enough, and response times are quick. Mine is now doing duty as a bedside clock - dang expensive one, but it does look nice - so the smaller screen is actually good. It's not heavy, but seems to sit quite firmly on the table so doesn't move when swiping on the screen.

I'd be tempted to get one for the kitchen, but I'd want the screen to be bigger and for it to be protected somehow from oil/water spills. For now I'll just keep shouting at the Google Home to add things to shopping lists and set timers.

    • I've got my Home Hub in the bedroom and a Lenovo Smart Display 8" in my kitchen. I think the Home Hub would be a bit too small in the kitchen and the Lenovo a bit too large in the bedroom, so they're both perfect where they are. Maybe keep an eye out for a Lenovo Smart Display deal? :)

      • Good thought - will check out the Lenovo…. but I think something like a 10" would be better but I still suspect that the kitchen would be a fairly toxic place for something like a smart tablet. In particular mine, given that there's a lot of frying foods (wife is on a 'keto' diet) happening so lots of oil splatter etc. For the moment the Google Home sitting at a safe distance away seems to work well enough. :-)

  • Received a PayPal refund today, no other communication. I note that it is still for sale too.
