Aldi 5 in 1 multi tool

hi guys,

I purchased this one at the weekend. Emailed the support people, but I've heard nothing back…. so I'm wondering if you can help.

I assembled the heavy beast on Sunday afternoon. I purchased it specifically for the pole-saw functionality.

Now, the main unit works fine (and starts quite reliably, which is nice). I can see the spindle turning inside the end of the pole.

I have attached the chainsaw/pole attachment as per the instructions. I'm 99% sure that I've assembled and attached it correctly. The multi-tool starts, yet the chain saw does not turn!!!

I haven't tested it with any of the other attachments yet.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I don't really want to return this. Even though it weighs approximately 200 to 250 kg, I think it will do the job.

cheers

    250kg?

    • That's the apparent weight. I'm sure that it's lighter in reality.

      • around 200kgs lighter. 25kgs weight. I would be impressed if you could carry 250kgs by yourself.

  • There is a metal rod that is inside each attachment pole. Make sure it is pushed all the way in.

    • Done that. There's a small metal tab which will (apparently) only go into the correct position once they've been fully inserted. I've checked it quite a few times, I can't see that this is the issue.

  • The chain is probably 'dry' out of the box so may need some encouragement to start moving.

As already suggested, try another attachment to make sure that the drive spindle is being engaged.
If that's fine and the engine labours if you rev it, t the chain is probably jammed.
Remove the attachment, dribble some bar oil (or WD40) on the chain, grab it with pliers and carefully (it'll eat your knuckles if not cautious) pull it parallel to the bar until it moves smoothly.
Once it has a bit of lube and is moving, you should be good to go.
You'll also want to keep it oiled or it'll lose effectiveness fast.

    • Thanks for your help. I'll try another attachment. The engine isn't labouring, now that you describe that, I think that the spindle is not engaged for some reason.

I'll try your suggestion re: the lube & pliers. Cheers!

dribble some bar oil (or WD40)

WD-40 isn't a lubricant. WD stands for "water displacing" and it's a solvent or rust dissolver. Any lubricant-like properties that WD-40 might seem to have come from what it's dissolving. And the lubricating effect doesn't last.

    • That's right; I only suggested WD40 because it's likely on hand.

It won't provide lubrication by itself but will soften any gunk on the chain that's stopping it moving.
The chain will require proper lubrication to continue working, as I mentioned above.

  • One last comment for the time being.

The manual said something like "email [email protected]" with any issues.

I did that 4 days ago…. no response whatsoever. lol.

However with the help of the OzB community, I have a way forward. cheers
