[Android & iOS] 2nd Chance to get Free Copy of Suburbia Game (1 Day Only, Save $10.99) @ Google Play & Apple iTunes 20th March

221

Following on from my deal a few weeks back (thank you for all 294 upvotes!), i've received an e-mail overnight that the app will be free again on 20th March 2019. It seems with short notice many of the kickstarter backers did not get the chance to get the app for free. If you missed out the first time, here's another chance!

Google Play - From 20/3/2019 11am to 21/3/2019 11am
Apple iTunes - From 20/3/2019 12am to 21/3/2019 12am

There will be free update to the app coming later in the year to include the nightlife expansion, and hopefully fix up the existing bugs in the App.

The e-mail is below.

Alternate Free App Download Day!
Posted by Bezier Games (Creator)
MARCH 20th - FREE APP DAY
Happy Fat Tuesday Everyone! We are happy to release an alternate FREE APP DOWNLOAD DAY for all the backers who were not able to get it in February; the new day will be Wednesday, March 20th. This will be your last chance to download the app for free so set a reminder to not forget!

To download - simply type Suburbia into your search bar in your App Store and an app with a blue skyline and hex tile logo should appear that reads Suburbia City Building Board Game. It usually appears at $6.99 but when the time frame for download hits, it will say it is free/$0. These platforms are wonky so please make sure you figure out your appropriate time zone beforehand, especially those of you who are iOS (Apple) users (see the attached link in your instructions).

ANDROID USERS:
Access the free app through the Google Play Store, it will not be available via the Amazon Kindle Store. The app will be open to download at no cost from 12AM GMT March 20th to 11:59PM GMT March 20th.

iOS USERS:
The free app time period will differ according to your time zone region! Look up your times in advance to make sure you do not miss it!

Let’s take an example. The app is set for free for March 20th - The price will change at midnight (12AM) March 20th to $0, then change back to the original price at 11:59PM on March 20th.

Stay with me here… that means If you live in the US in the EST zone, that price will be in place from 3AM March 20th until 3AM March 21st.

If you live in Spain or most of Europe, that price is good for March 20th from 12AM until 11:59PM March 20th because most of Europe is in the CET zone. Portugal, UK and Ireland are one hour later.

If you live in Australia (with three time zones), that price is good for March 20th from 12AM until 11:59PM March 20th. IF you live in the WST zone, the price change occurs at 2AM March 20th through 1:59AM March 21st. • Thanks OP. Reminder set.

    • How does one set a reminder on OzB?

      Edit: nevermind, found it above!

If you live in Australia (with three time zones),

Currently Australia has 5 time zones as Queensland and Northern Territory don't observe daylight saving time.

Western Australia also don't observe daylight saving, but they have their own time zone. This means there is a 3 hour difference with the eastern states, which may or may not change the availability time to 3am.

    • I shall let the kickstarter know they got it wrong in their e-mail!

    • I'm not a fan of daylight savings. I always thought it was because the farmers needed it for more hours if sun. I have a few friends who grew up on farms, and they don't care about daylight savings. They get up when the sun gets up.

the farmers needed it for more hours if sun

That's not how daylight savings works. You can't tell the earth to stop rotating just to get more sun.

      • Daylight savings can cause issues for dairy farmers because cows still expect to be milked at the same time.

Personally I don't mind waking up in the dark if it means an extra hour of daylight in the evening. Leaving for work in the dark and arriving home in the dark can be depressing.

Which is why it makes more sense for ti to be done in winter then any other time - pushing the limited daylight to the afternoon / end of the day.

The logic was that 'why sleep through the extra hours summer gives when we can all get up earlier and use that daylight at the end of the day'. Which I never got because there is heaps of daylight to spare.

  • Got it last time. Some annoying visual quirks and could do with a tutorial but great game for the price.

  • What A Toss.

You have Done it again dont be proud of yourself, the guys stated in their first ks update after the last free day that more people downloaded the game then the backers, you are taking money from developers that only made the game free for the day as google would not give them enough free codes to fill the amount of backers.

You Sir have just taken away a perk from a kickstarter backer and are detrimental to the board game community

You're totally naive to think that this wouldn't be posted otherwise. It was posted in reddit and facebook as well when it was first released for free for a day, and it will be again, if it's not already. I have not taken away a perk. People other than backers have been able to enjoy the perk essentially at the cost of the backers, including myself, which I do think is somewhat unfair, but also was unavoidable. As a backer, I'd personally prefer to share the benefits I paid for.

I will quote from their update following the last free day.

"A few backers did post this info Saturday on reddit and FB, as expected, and as a result there were a TON of downloads on Sunday, many times more than there are backers. On the one hand, we really would have preferred for this to be exclusively for backers, but in the spirit of making lemonade, we embraced the additional publicity the game, our company, and the app received as a result."

      And let's be honest:

      1) It's very unlikely anyone who got the app for free would have ever paid for it
      2) It's more likely people who have the app and enjoy the game are more likely to buy a physical copy in the future
      3) It's almost certain that this would have been put on ozbargin the day it was free. I know one comment on the previous post said they were going to post it before they saw my post, and even without the kickstarter notification, how likely is it that someone would have found the deal and posted it? Pretty high I would think.
      4) Nothing illegal has occurred. No one stole an app that was offered for free.

Also, if they had asked in their kickstarter e-mail specifically not to post it publically, I would have honored that. They did not ask that.

I agree it's a grey area, but in this scenario, I'm comfortable. I respect your right to disagree. In the meantime, as I have for years, I'll continue to pay for my board games, whether physical, PC, or Mobile.

      • It's very unlikely anyone who got the app for free would have ever paid for it

        Definitely describes me.

    • I respect your point and my comment is intended to discuss your point further.
I would expect Devs able to create a full game, to be able to come up with a better reward system for backers, if they are so worried to get ozbargained (or from reddit or from whenever).

On a side note setting a game free it can create/expand a community to support further Dev of the game, this game in particular is honestly very hard to get into without prior knowledge, not exactly the most appealing tutorial system to teach how to play.

I had a kickstarter where the game was released in two versions in the appstore a 'lite' demo and a full version. The free demo was able to be unlock to the full version of the game with a in game code they gave backers. Kinda annoyed me that the game icon shows 'lite' even though I have the full version. I guess this solved the limited keys issue though.

  • Not working. Still full price

    • IoS free from midnight. I can see it is free on IoS Now.
Google Play free from 11am AEDT.

      • Thanks. It's available now.
