To much of a risk for $5, but thanks for posting.

    • Care to explain?

If, for whatever reason your CR purchase isn't tracked, you're losing a lot of money in today's prepaid world - money that could go for numerous months in fact if you play your cards well.

        • This. Even if you don't abuse the system, $40 is alot with the new 12 month plans coming out everywhere

    • And here I am thinking the deal was intended as a joke…

  • +1

Shopback has pay $15 get $21 cashback (2gb data only plan)
    here

    • So does CR 😉

      • Ahh didn't check CR. Thanks for letting me know

  • With deals at $5 for 40GB, it's too much to put forward to maybe get back, not worth $5 for the risk and wait

  • Be careful with the pre activated Sim card shenanigan. I don't mind lost days or even weeks because of the pre-activation,but they took my money. They promised me that they will refund the money. It's "one-of" though,as if it's my fault.

The story is that I tried to activate an amaysim Sim card 2 days before the last day it's supposed to be activated ,which was 30 days after the purchase date as written on cashreward/shopback t&c for each cashback promotion.

However, after I "activated" the sim card, which was just by inserting the sim card to my phone and logging in to the amaysim dashboard, they took 30 dollars from my bank account since apparently it's exactly the day that the sim card is supposed to renew, which is every 28 days, according to amaysim, based on pre-activation that was happened when it's got sent to me

Here's the promo :https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/429584. It clearly said "SIM must be activated within 30 days of purchase.".

I also got pre-activated amaysim sim card from this deal : https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/433560 which also clearly said that "Activate within 30 days of purchase. "

    Sorry I'm not that articulate.

I bought an amaysim sim card from this deal : https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/429584 on 31st of January 2019. It's sent on the 1st of February.
As written on T&C, it must be activated within 30 days of purchase. Amaysim uses 28 days billing cycle, not 30 days billing cycle.
According to amaysim when I talked to them via their live chat feature, the sim card that they send had been preactivated by the time it's sent to customers.

It means that my Amaysim sim card had been activated on the 1st of February, and that means the next renewal date was 1st of March (after 28 days).

I tried to activate the sim card 28 days after the date of purchase, which was 28th of February 2019. I checked the dashboard and it's said it would be renewed on 1st of March. I didn't mind and I then turned off the automatic renewal. However, on the 1st of March 2019,they took $30 dollars from my bank account, and the sim card has been renewed for the next 28 days.

    • No pre-activation if you port in an existing number instead of getting a new one.

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/432077
Bought one sim with a new number for a visiting relative from this deal, sim sent pre-activate 3 days later with 26 days left.

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/432819

Decided to port-in my number with this next deal, sim arrive on the 23rd, start activation on the 26. Due to problem on amaysim end, sim wasn't activate until the 12th of Feb(this was after various chat and call each time with no conclusive resolution), well past their activated by date. Not sure if i am still going to get my cash back since it wasn't really my fault their porting process take so damn long.

I have been using amaysim for a while and found the safest way to avoid a preactivated sim card is by not verifying your id until you have received it. They cant legally provide you the service i suppose.

Massive amaysim payment system failure (which causes affiliate tracking failure) last time. It happened to alot of people. NO WAY is it worth the risk. Hope I get my money from the last one, I had to escalate it, I feel like I'll wait 90 days then get rejected

    • +1

Amaysim will approve all genuine untracked claims caused due to payment failures. You have nothing to be worried about.

      • Same here, but I purchased 2 new iPhones via cash rewards on the Apple website. Sale not tracked, and currently awaiting ‘Apple’s’ up to 90 days reply. That’s a large amount of money to go missing. I have used cashrewards many times never had a problem and this time Cashrewards replied with an email saying it may not be tracked due to adblocker, clicking on links etc etc so let’s hope they actually honour my cashback or I’m moving.

        • As an FYI, if your sale didn't track via CR, it's unlikely it would have tracked anywhere else. As I've stated across many threads, all cashback sites use the same affiliate networks for transaction tracking/reporting/payments. Unless CR was your last click before you purchased, your sale will go to whoever you did click last to (including OzB, Google, comparison sites etc). And watch for plugins like Honey etc. They definitely steal tracking cookies and get paid for your click.

      • Thanks. I can only hesitate until I see it though.

Heck, Amaysim actually billed me twice (no I didn't reload the page). I had to get one sim refunded by chat. Then they failed to complete their activation in time (they state 3 days max which I gave them, but actually took 4 days). It was a pretty horrific experience. Previously after porting I've stuck with the carrier for 1-2 years, but with this experience and the $150 Boost deal I've done my first one-month-then-port-out ever.

I love CR, but it takes a big cashback to make the risk & hassle worthwhile.

  • +7

Every time I use Amaysim I have complications with porting and spend endless hours with their live chat trying to get it resolved. It just ain't worth the hassle using them.

    • I totally agree. I had a similar experience. I wasted and waited days, absolutely crap service. I also wasted an addition $2 and my time and effort getting another sim on their advice, which didn't work. After a week an Australian based rep got in touch with me, lol.

      Hello Amaysim,
Sort out your service before you try to attract customers. I am one that will never return and strongly advise others not use your service. Too much competition to put up with your crap.

  • +1

I don't know if it's Amaysim's or CR's fault but my orders did not track last time. CR doesn't seem to think it's their responsibility but orders definitely went through.

  • +1
  • I also had one not track when using the cashrewards app the first time

And I got hit with the same issue as sorasora above where they charged me after 28 days of ordering a sim even though I had only just activated it after 3 weeks and I had to sort it out via live chat

  • +2

I've got a few of the amaysim sim and they need to stop preactivating the Sim cards. Their "month" is already 28 days and still trying to reduce it further.

  • Risking $40 to gain $5? What has ozbargain become.

    • -1

Huh? OzBargain has always been about taking risks to get free money/stuff ;)

      • Not sure what Ozbargain you are on, but my Ozbargain is about getting free money/stuff with no risk.

        • That would be OzBargain.com.au. People take risks all the time with price errors for example. Sometimes they're lucky (e.g. Amazon) and get compensation. Other times like the recent Melbourne Star Observation you just get a refund.

          • @Clear: Risk is a potential to lose something of value.

How are you taking a risk with price error?

At best you get something with incredible value or some free compensation. At worst you get a refund. Neither scenario are you ever at a risk of losing anything.

            • -2

@highdealer: By not receiving a refund immediately. Many many cases where you have had to wait weeks.

              • +1

@Clear: That is not a risk. The money is still your it's not going anywhere. You are not losing anything.

                • -2

@highdealer: Wot. Paying money and not getting it back isn't losing anything? Makes zero sense.

                  • @Clear: Wot. You will always get your money back in that case.

                    • -1

@ScruffTheJanitor: Yeah obviously. But you lose your money for a period of time do you not? Let's take Officeworks for example where in previous price errors it's often taken them ~2 weeks to refund. That's 2 weeks of them holding your money… AKA a risk of buying price errors.

  • -1

not worth the risk , its a scam

    • +2

Please explain how this is a scam. I have earned $600 cashback from CR and $40 from Shopback without an issue, sure it's a risk depending on the vendor, but in no way it is a scam.

You have upvoted a $7 cashback from $0.99 spend deal for Shopback, was that a scam too?

  • +1

Probably not worth the risk for 5$ - i've done this before and im still waiting for my cash back from CR but that was for a profit of 20$ which is a bit more worth the risk

  • still haven't received my cashback. still waiting for the results of escalation. :(

    • Please do let us know how everything goes.

  • Only one Cashback per Cashrewards account is permitted

I got cashback from previous deal am I still eligible for this deal or do I need another cashreward account to get cashback?
