whilst spatone is possibly the most easily and efficiently absorbed iron supplement available, maltofer is perhaps the best alternative and better for iron deficiency

People often take it because it has less "side effects" than taking a proper iron table.
You've hit the nail on the head - it's because it only has 5% the iron. And guess what - you get more iron cooking from a cast iron wok than a sachet of spatone!
i just get sick of people going into pharmacies / "health food" shops who have iron deficiency and being sold spatone / fab iron liquid iron / floradix iron liquid.
They come out thinking they have something that is going to correct their deficiency and is "natural" …
some of the above products even say on the packet "not for the correction of iron deficiency" !!!
Maltofer is for the treatment of iron deficiency in adults and adolescents where the use of ferrous iron supplements is not tolerated
Does this mean that ferrous iron supplements is better if it's tolerated?
@nix1016: I understood ferrous ones to be more effective and polymatose to be better tolerated (and more expensive - well they used to be - but not when they are on sale)
I dont know that they have done head to head on efficacy in a patient who tolerates both….
OP - thanks for the post on maltofer - that's useful for me!
Spatone. Probably lolly water. People, get a real iron supplement.
i have always been fascinated how spatone, with 5mg of E iron can somehow be an alternative to maltofer / ferrograd etc with ~ 105mg of E iron
its x20 more efficient??
