  • how good it would be for data analytics/ data science?

    • +5

      Yes

Boy this stuff is flavour of the month isn't it!

Depends what you're trying to do, but the simple answer is "fine". Most comps, kaggle etc, will be easily done on this. Don't get me wrong if you're ure trying to retrain Bert from scratch it may take a while…but you'll be good!

        cool thanks

CPU is about the best you'll get without dropping $4k on a high-end work station laptop.

GPU is basically the best without going overkill, it's only about 20% behind the highest end cards on benchmarks. The main limitation is the lower 6GB RAM, if that's an issue.

  • is there a thunderbolt 3?

    • Unfortunately not yet.
      Kris

  • +2

Where is the Thunderbolt 3 port? That should be a staple for a high end PC such as this one.

  • +1

sorry for my question, but is kongcomputers and metabox.com.au different companies?

    • +1

Kong is the local seller. Like say…jb selling Dell stuff (kinda).

    • +2

They're both Sager/Clevo laptop resellers, just Metabox branding is used.

Clevo laptops are basically OEM products - you slap your own branding on them (or I assume can order branded), chuck in a few parts and sell them.

In other words, I'd assume Metabox is the importer and Kong buys them barebone, then assemble and ship.

  • Damn. Just ordered the Alpha N850EK. Wanted the Prime but it was a bit out of reach. Doh!

  • +2

Yes, we are separate companies. We are a Metabox reseller.
All orders go through the same Metabox Perth factory though with same warranty and ship directly to the customer once the order is ready :)

Damn, this or the MSI GE75?
Rep, do you know what the panel model number is? Is it the same as the AUO/LG 15 & 17" 144hz "IPS Level" panels in the gigabyte/msi lappys for sRGB coverage & latency?

    • +1

      Thanks for the message.
I'm just checking on the panel model number and details for you and will write back when I have it from the factory.
      cheers
      Kris

    • The panel is - INNOLUX N161HCA-GA1

  • Do you have a showroom in Sydney? Would love to try it out in person before buying.

    • Unfortunately we don't have a shop front. We are online only.

A couple more questions if I may,

As this laptop is promoted as being customisable, is there the option to purchase it without any RAM and SSD? I have lots of spare RAM and M.2 SSDs that I would like to intall instead to save money.

Is this a laptop with warranty void stickers covering the screws/back panels?

In the video review, Jarrod's P960ED comes with a 62WH battery whilst the advertised one here has a 55WH battery. Is this a typo/error or do we actually get a smaller battery in comparison to his?

Can you elaborate on the warranty? 1 Year Platinum VS 1 Year Extended Premium Care Protection. Perhaps a link somewhere to the Terms and Conditions.

    • Take a look at the webpage, a lot of the information can be found there.
      https://www.kongcomputers.com/product-detail/gamers/metabox-…

      • I'm just checking on the price with no SSD.
      • We have to ship the laptop with a minimum amount of RAM though, like 8GB. So am also finding out this price for you.
      • There are no "warranty void" stickers. The beauty of a Metabox is that you can upgrade it yourself if you wish and it doesn't void the warranty. So you can upgrade the SSD/HDD, RAM or Wi-Fi card yourself.
      • The specs we were sent by Metabox are saying 55Whr. I am getting this confirmed.
      • Warranty, The warranty on the product is exactly the same in the first and second year. So that's for the Platinum and Premium warranty. The only difference is that Platinum (1st year) mean that Metabox pay to ship the laptop back to them and back to you again in the event of a repair being required. The Premium warranty (2nd year), customer pays to ship the laptop back to Metabox but Metabox pay to return ship back to you if the laptop needs to go back for repair. There's more information on the bottom right of the P960ED webpage. Click on the Warranty link.

    • No SSD option is now available, it will be -$160.
62Wh is correct. There was a mistake on the specs list that we received, but it's been fixed now. Thanks for picking that up :)
      Cheers
      Kris

  • I see there's something called a powered USB, AC/DC. May I know what's that? This laptop isn't capable for USB type C charging is it?

    • It means that you can charge certain USB devices from the laptop (on that port) when it is not running. Like your mobile phone.

  • Any ideas about the fan noise? Linux drivers are able to keep it silent?

  • I got a Metabox 6 months ago. I wouldn't recommend it. I would go for a known brand. Metabox basically meshed all the components together but they don't work well together. Due to motherboard/BIOS problem, I can't run the ram at max speed and overclock the CPU. Support keep updating the BIOS and problem is never fixed. So I basically spend the money on non-overclockable CPU and RAM.

    • Can you kindly share model of your metabox?

  • Hi ruriruri,
Sorry to hear of the issue. Which model did you buy? Was it from us?
Other known brands like Gigabyte also use the Clevo base laptop and re-brand. The Sabre 15 and Sabre 17 also come from the same factory.
    Cheers
