1GB RAM, probably only good for making calls.

    • +5

You could be right but it’s not a laptop replacement.

    • +4

      It's "android go" phone

  • Would this be good to throw a telstra sim in and use as a GPS tracker for cars?

    • +4

Be aware, No B28 - which you may want for Telstra depending where the car is driving

    • Your car might already have had a GPS tracker installed during manufacture.

      Google 'telematics'

  • Specs on Bnaggood says it’s not dual standby 4G, which is fair for the price, but doesn’t say whether the second sim connects as 2G or 3G. gsmarena has several models listed with this name, which one am I looking for to confirm?

      • +1

Yeah that’s useless. It says the same as the banggood listing:

Two 4G networks cannot be used simultaneously. When using two SIM cards, one will support 4G while the other will not.

What's wrong in providing a direct link to product?

        Negative votes … ROFL

  • +11

This actually seems expensive to me? Shouldn't a phone with these specs be around $30 to qualify as a bargain?

No disrespect to the poster intended.

    • +1

No offence taken. What’s a better phone for the price?

      • +10

you should be asking what's the 'going' price for phone with spec like,

        1gb ram
        8gb rom
        720p display

= Coles/Woolie/Auspost half price burner phones catalogue deals posted here every now and then at 50 bux or less

For comparison, Sharp Z2 was under $140 when on sale, or currently $160 thereabouts from Banggood. Specs ?

        4gb ram
        32gb rom
        1080p display
        B28
        Fingerprint scanner
        USB-C

Yeah, i guess you're gonna pull some maths shit by blowing on the cost percentage saying: BUT IT'S FREAKING 45% MORE !!!!

FFS it's 50 bux more for whole lot of better spec.

But i guess you'd rather spend $114 on shitty 1gb ram / 8gb rom / 720p display, that's similar to $50 supermarket half price burner phone.

Note this post is not directed to you but to anyone that thinking this is a good deal.

And I apologize for my writing tone.

        • 😂 fired up 🔥

        • +5

Gonna pull some maths shit myself.

Snapdragon 425 won't set the world on fire but it's leaps and bounds above what the shitty Mediatek in Coles and Woolies phones are.

Fair point at Sharp Z2, but again some folks don't want to pay $50 more. Sad fact but true and they're perfectly entitled to their budget.

      • -1

Fair call, I don't have an equivalent better deal for the price.

It's the RAM that gets me. The rest of the specs I can live with but I haven't had a 1GB phone since buying the Samsung Note 1 in 2011. I imagine 1GB would be more painful on modern Android OS than back in the day of Honeycomb / Icecream Sandwich.

  • +4

8GB storage, but probably only half will be available.

  • +1

why is everyone trying to shit on this deal?

it's half the price of Nokia 2.1 for crying out loud

    • +9

Clearly they all have the Samsung S10

      • Crack up but funky dude does have a solid point

lack of band 28 and nfc is common supermarket / austpost phone deals now if you are happy with hd phone, and they are targeted at australian market.

the xiaomi are targeted at china market so lack of band 28 and nfc means you can’t call center link in some rural or remote areas or use it to make electronic payments incase you still have money from last centrelink payment.

      • And lack of band 28 doesn't matter in some rural places as to what a bunch of users have posted here on OzBargain over the years, cos they still get decent reception.

NFC is not a big deal as some people make it out to be. You have Smartwatches, you have banks doing smart rings.

Appreciate these "cheaper" mobile deals coming through lately. Hopefully we can keep it up. Nice one, OP.

    Burner smartphone

    specs including Australian network compatibility

regarding network support, it looks that there may indeed be a B28 edition.

Seems like a somewhat cut down version of the Xiaomi Redmi 4X I bought 1.5 years ago for ~$150. Still running really well with official LineageOS 15.1. This was just released, so hopefully will get cheaper.

    • +1

Is lineageOS hard to work with? I’m always iphones but thinking of getting a cheap android as a second phone.

      • Phones with official LineageOS releases are usually super stable. But I started with an unofficial release for the Redmi 4X, which worked pretty well. It later got adopted by LineageOS community officially.

Installing ROMs is fairly easy once you get the hang of it, can be a bit daunting at the start due to risk of bricking. There are lots of step-by-step guides out there. It is a bit trickier with Xiaomi phones the first time, 'cause of some extra hoops Xiaomi make you jump through to be able to install a different ROM (like a 72-hour waiting period).

But I don't think its necessary on the Redmi Go, it has a "purer" version of Android, as that's what I was after. Good candidate for a backup phone, like the 4X!

        • Thanks mate. Appreciate the info. There really should be, if there isn’t, more options for android OS without the bloatwqte crap, like the nexus and google phones for other brands. It’s one thing keeping me from
          Ditching apple

  • Would a second hand Pixel be a better buy for about $160?

    • If it's in working condition and no issues, then of course.
You can also get refurbished pixel phones in the $200-$250 range on eBay with the % off codes.

  • Can anyone reccomend a good phone under $200 that has NFC, decent camera and preferably dual sim? Might spend a little bit more and get Moto G6 if no better option.

    • Galaxy J6. It has everything you want for $200.
