Agent Sending Inspection Notices and Cancelling in The Last Minute (NSW)

Hi

I have been living in my current apartment for 6 months and have not yet had an inspection by the agent.
the agency sent us a notice of inspection on the 17th for an inspection on the 24th of January. However, on the morning on the 24th the staff member that sent the notice called and said that she could not attend due to a family emergency.
On the 13th of February another staff member sent a notice and then they emailed us on the 19th saying that they have cancelled the inspection on the 20th and send us another notice for the 27th. When I called and expressed my frustration not only did they not apologize they said that they are still not sure about the inspection on the 27th and they will need to confirm and get back to me. I just want them to get it over with and stop pestering me, what options do I have here?

Is the agent able to just send notices without actually being able to attend, does this count towards the number of inspections that they can conduct per year?

Any advice would be helpful.

These constant passive aggressive responses are not necessary. OP is looking for advice from other Ozbargain members that may have been through something similar. I guess you gave a link, that's something.

      • Thanks Robby.

      • They are most certainly necessary IMO; I feel that people should at least attempt to complete some basic research before posting things like this. Agree, maybe doesn't have to be in a passive aggressive way, but the message would still be similar, eg "try contacting XYZ".

eg when helpdesk ask "have you turned it off and on again?", it's to ensure the basic steps have been taken.

In this particular case, the OP doesn't ask "if anyone has been in a similar situation", they ask for answers to specific questions. iforgotmysocks I believe is correct, if you want the correct/official answers to the below questions, then the logical step is to contact the relevant authority on the topic (not OZB).

I commented something similar to the below post because in the OP there was no indication they did any initial research (although he responded to explain he already did…should have just said that in the OP) https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/437163

    • I did not want to write a complaint yet and I want to give them a chance to comply with the current notice and appear for the inspection today.

    Yes.

    No.

Perhaps more usefully, if they do it too many times you could argue they're breaching your right to quiet enjoyment, but that would only be if they did this far more than 2 or 3 times.

    • that is what i suspected. Thanks for the suggestion.

I had the agent try and cancel the morning of the inspection. I had to take half a day off for the inspection so informed them that as a contractor my hourly rate was $x and that I would be billing their office half a days wages (or reducing my next rent payment by that amount). Somehow she was able to get to my property for the inspection within 15 minutes of the call.

    • Haha, good on you.

    • I would be insisting they inspect out of hours as nobody will be available to meet them during business hours.
