How to Replace / Repair Front Door Glass of Blanco 900 mm Oven?

Hi All,

I am in a bit of tricky situation. Our tenant has broken the front glass of the door of Blanco 900 mm oven.
The model # FD9085FX (Free-standing cooktop/Oven unit).

Would someone please be able to guide me what should I do to replace the glass? Or the oven door?

The location is: Melbourne, VIC.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

AP.

  • Wow. Great first post…

    Options I can think of:
    - Contact the manufacturer
    - Google for parts and DIY
    - Post on OZB with no photos or detailed information

    • Hi John,
Thank you for your prompt response.
I have contacted manufacturer - Blanco and various spare-parts stores in Melbourne. They all said the same thing - "This product has been discontinued and no spare-parts are available".
Google searches resulted with similar - non-productive results.
      - Could you please explain me more on how I can post it on OzBargain to get it fixed? Please elaborate on the 3rd option of your reply.
      Thanks again.

If you absolutely cannot find a replacement, I suppose you would need to replace the entire oven and bill the tenant for it.

Don't forget the depreciation of the oven. It may be worthless so the tenant wouldn't really have to pay much if anything.

Best to work out a fair settlement. Don't want a tenant to feel ripped off by buying a new oven to replace and old discontinued stock.

          Remember the shellfish

  • Depends if its the front or back panel of glass that needs replacing. It should be fairly straight forward first unlock the hinges at the bottom of the oven door then lift it up and out of the frame. There will be screws around the inside of the door, unsrew these and then replace the glass. This video explains the steps pretty well https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WzdRBcXFhsc I had to replace the hinges and internal switch on my oven (different brand) and the procedure was not too difficult. Good Luck

    • Thank you for your response, Cabrinha. Much appreciate it. I will look at that YouTube video and follow it.

    1. If the tenant broke it, why don't you leave it with them to fix it?
    2. If it is just the glass, you could get a glazier to do it with tempered glass they cut to size.
    3. Be very hesitant to use Big Warehouse Spares as it will probably appear at the top of the Google results. Read the negative reviews online first. Be wary of any positive ones as they mostly and coincidentally only have a post history of 1.
    4. If the oven is that old they don't make spares, check Gumtree for a cheap one and take the whole door.
    • I have used Big Warehouse spares for parts for my AC (MAIN BOARD) and my Parents Westinghouse fridge(hinge)
No problem whatsoever, saved my self $700
They are located in Corrimal nsw.
I was able to go in each time and grab the part as im a local, but I think they prefer to ship it out

      • Well my experience was exactly as described as the negative ones online.

I ended up getting my part from the manufacturer for cheaper than them anyway after they couldn't supply it, but held on to my money for over 2 months and I had to get it back through a chargeback.

I had a tenant do exactly the same thing. Apparently they were mopping or sweeping and on the backward movement they rammed the broomstick into the oven glass.

I got in touch with a glass replacement company (like O'Briens or similar) and they knew the special kind of glass required by ovens. I think its specially manufactured to deal with the heat.
They came out, measured up, got it done by a third party and came back and fitted. Good as new.

I don't own the house any more but as far as I know its still going strong.

    • This is what I was going to say.

You can’t just get a glazier to come. You need special heat proof glass.

Call companies like O’Brien’s and see if they can assist

    • Hi Youfah,
I just called O'Brien Glass about this. They said they don't do oven glass replacement. They asked me to contact the manufacturer. - Back to square 1…

This might be the correct glass for your door:

  • My tenant broke the oven glass. Ended up costing about $400 to repair.
