I've had two chest strap heart rate monitors fail on me today. They won't give a reading- they did yesterday when I replaced the strap battery in both. Anyway, what I need is something that will give me a reasonably accurate, continuous heart rate reading while I sit on a stationary cycle and pedal. Can you get a continuous, therefore constantly changing during exercise, reading from a Mi Band 3? Can you keep the heart rate figure constantly on screen, not fading out or scrolling through screens?
Xiaomi Mi Band 3 Continuous Heart Rate

As far as I am aware, the Mi Band 3 cannot display anything continuously - it always turns off the display after a few seconds. There are a few non-Xiaomi apps in the app store that seems to be able to do things that the Xiaomi app can't do, so I can't say for certain that it's impossible.
As for accuracy, my Mi Band 3 appears to be accurate only while I'm sleeping. During the day (presumably due to movement), it frequently shows peaks that are way higher than reality.
I think the only way you're going to get accurate readings continuously is with a Bluetooth or ANT+ chest strap. Some exercise machines with display screens are able to connect to such sensors and display the results on their screen - does your cycle have a screen?
It's also possible to display the readings from a chest strap on a mobile phone with an app, or maybe even on a laptop computer, which you could locate next to your cycle.
Incorrect. The 'Workout' feature on the Mi Fit app records continuously.
Yes, it records continuously, but does it display continuously?
Have you actually used the app?
@Typical16-bitEnjoyer: Yes, but it seems that I've never gone to that tab. My apologies.
using notify and fitness app for miband, you can get continuous heart rate reading.
There have been some decent prices for the Mobvoi Ticwatch E recently (as it has been superseded)
I think it would be a nice solution for you… works directly with all major fitness apps.
I've revived one of them. It's a pity they are both playing up - they are 2 of the same thing - because they are perfect for me when they work. A chest strap with a watch. Don't want apps don't want to have something tied to a phone. And on these ones when you have it on heart rate setting all that shows on the watch is heart rate bold and large.
The first heart rate monitor I got 20 years ago was the best. Base model Polar. Heart rate + a beep every ten minutes in your heart rate zone. Worked every time. Only problem was you couldn't replace the strap battery, had to send it to Polar, so I threw it away when battery died after 2 years. Silly boy. It's been downhill ever since. I've bought heaps of different monitors since and they've all given me headaches.
I have decided to go with Polar H10 if I must go smartphone and app route.
No to pretty much all of it.
Chest strap is the most accurate. Get one that bluetooths to your phone.
