You are lucky as this is online deal which occur Handling fee and shipping.

  • Nice price, thanks for posting!

  • Wow. Solid deal. So tempting.

  • +1

Can't help but think a fussy Officeworks worker won't like it being an online only item at MSY. But often I get lucky.

    • +2

It's available in-store too, it shows up the same price on the parts.pdf, so it should be fine to price match

Display suffer severe PEM flicker below 30% brightness, and that is a level uncomfortably bright at night.

    • +5

Can't find any reviews listing this as a PWM brightness control screen. Can't detect any flicker on mine current set @ 25% brightness (calibrated using a Colormunki Display device)..

Samsung's site lists "Flicker Free - Yes" which normally means brightness isn't PWM controlled.

Their listed specs are normally accurate for their other screens, so I don't see why they's start with this unit.

      • Can you confirm this by lowering the brightness further, and use something other than your eyes to detect this such as a panning slow shutter speed SLR photo, or high frame rate video.
It is well known that many people cannot perceive PWM flicker with their eyes.
The listed specs and features regarding flicker can be applicable to only above a certain brightness level, as has been determined by reviewers of some monitors.

        • I checked last night by reducing brightness down to 15 but couldn't detect anything weird with my eyes. I'm very sensitive to PWM as my office at home has shutters on the window, so always have the brightness set very low on all screens.

I returned a new Dell P4317Q screen last year after noticing the flickering caused by its PWM design. Initially couldn't believe Dell would use PWM brightness control is such a new & expensive screen, so ended up checking with them and ultimately returning it after they confirmed PWM.

The other thing I'll say about this screen is the very low input lag from the initial visual only testing.

I'm no FPS gamer, but noticed no issues playing Witcher 3 or Assassins Creed Odyssey, so rate it very good for 60 FPS gaming. Was able to operate the panel @ 4K 70Hz fine using the Nvidia software.

          • -1

@xuqi: Good on you for trying, though again it's subjective and relative to your eyes. Try zero brightness and wave your hand in front of it quickly.
I too bought a new Dell monitor, and astonishingly it used PWM even on maximum brightness.
I agree it can still be a great monitor and goes fine for games. By the way, did you get freesync working with the new nvidia driver which unofficially should support it,and if so how?

        • Can’t perceive it with Their eyes ?!? So who gives a crap!?!!?!!!

          • @T1OOO: Ugh, the people who can see it care, and the people who can't see it don't give a crap.

            • @chyawala: I dropped brightness to 0, and captured video using the iphone 7 slow-mo mode (720P @ 240FPS), and didn't see any flickering.

apart from the size difference, don't you think this dell model is much better with other technical spec?
    https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/dell-27-usb-c-monitor-p2719h…

I am also going to purchase one for my home office setup, and I appreciate if others can validate thoughts on this particular DELL model as well.

    • +13

The Dell monitor is 1080p. This Samsung one is 4K

    • +6

You're comparing Apples to Oranges. This is a 32" 4K panel, the Dell is a 1080P screen. My other screen is a 27" 4K Asus PB27UQ.

      https://www.asus.com/au/Monitors/PB27UQ/

Sitting side-by-side colours are more vibrant on the Samsung.

      • I have a 24" IPS and thinking to upgrade to a 27" 1440p gaming one with over 100 Hz. I realize you upgraded from 27" to 32" now .Was 27" a small size for you or any other issue with it?

        • +1

Nothing wrong with the 27" 4K Asus (excellent color, low input lag (much like this Samsung) I'm using, but I changed desks and now have additional physical space to fit the larger screen.

    • +3

USB-C could be a nice option if your system is ready for it but 1080 is poor resolution on a 27” unless all your doing is watching tv and gaming. I’d take the Samsung deal over this with a bigger screen and much higher resolution any day.

      • my purpose is 98% of the time doing work (home office seating / stand up setup) and at time social media, news & YouTube videos…
do you think 4K for this purpose still worth?

        • +6

On a larger 32" panel absolutely. I have 4x windows each covering a 1/4 of the screen showing different info.

        • +2

I think you'd find the increased screen real-estate immensely useful. 32" is currently the sweet spot for 4K as well.

Keep in mind though, that if you're used to working with sub-27" monitors, you may need to rethink your desk layout (ie. sitting/standing further away from the screen, or mounting the monitor).

        • +1

And the specs are just better all over by the looks of it…the samsung lists a 4ms response time and the dell 8ms. Get the samsung it sounds really good.

      • May I know how you have set this up to be used as a TV? Or did you mean just streaming online content like Netflix or YouTube.

        • +2

Here's a resized example. I watch either live TV (using a HDHomeRun device), or stream Netflix in the right corner. Other sections are web browsing, editing, or used for virtual system sessions.

          • @xuqi: Thanks for sharing your screen setup
            Cheers,

PS, Live video streaming out of Canberra, interesting choice of viewing to share, we all do it but you're so courageous to tell the world.

Out of stock for me. Is around $600 delivered on ebay at the moment with 20% off deal.

    • Which code is that? Couldn't find one when looking earlier in the day.

  • This is tempting. Pity I cannot stand VA monitor's colour shift. It really annoys me. My brother, however, has no issue with that. He was quite happy with the VA monitor I gave him for free.

  • +2

A 125% monitor? My monitor only gives it 100%. So slack.

    • Your suspicion is correct. It uses VA panel, and 4K VA can be cheaper, as in my listing.

  • Just a general question. Could you just use this as a bedroom TV for gaming and streaming? Does it have Hdmi inputs?

    • It's not a gaming screen. It does have a HDMI input but it's designed for business so it's not built for gaming.

      • It might not be covered it RGB lighting and have dragon logos all over it but this is a great gaming monitor if you don't care to exceed 60hz. Works great for consoles too. Can't notice any input lag difference between this and my old TN panel.

      • People use 4k for business?

        • +2

Spreadsheets.. I have yet to meet an accountant who turns down additional screen realestate.

        • Are you asking me or Samsung? They literally say it's built to fit your business space on the product page.

Built to fit your business space

It swivels, tilts, pivots, and is height-adjustable and ready to meet the needs of many usage scenarios. VESA - supported, it can be installed on a wall or separate arms with ease. It’s sleek yet sturdy build, coupled with clean back design, blends in perfectly with any office or personal space.

        • Or Freesync?

    • +3

It will be good enough for gaming and tv use. Unless you're some hardcore gamer/tv dude and notice artifacts, tearing, ghosting, input lag, etc. and all the other things reviewers talk about in their gaming monitor reviews.

    • +1

Here's a decent video review showing some gaming:
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWFs-7fEbeE

      It has the following ports:

      1x HDMI 2.0
      1x HDMI 1.4
      1x DisplayPort
      1x mini-Displayport

      Also supports AMD FreeSync.

    • Absolutely. There are two HDMI inputs. HDMI port 2 is HDMI 2.0 which supports 4K@60fps.

Do be aware that there are no speakers though. So you'd have to hook some up yourself. There is a headphone jack out though and can plug speakers or headphones into that. There was a small amount of noise distortion through this output for me though but an 8 dollar amazon noise isolator resolved this for me.

Works great for gaming at 60fps.

  • +2

I've had this monitor for about 6 months. It's pretty unreal and looks amazing.

I was expecting deeper blacks from it though but its possible that mine suffers from a bit more backlight bleeding than others.

The freesync is also not great, at least with the new Nvidia drivers. It regularly flickers and is basically unusable lower than 48fps. I just leave it off now as I can't be bothered dealing with it. This could be different with AMD cards or maybe I'm doing something wrong with my setup but I've given up on it at this point.

It's a good gaming monitor regardless. Input lag is great. I have no desire to exceed 60hz personally as I don't do a lots of mouse & keyboard fast paced gaming. But it works great for this to do this casually.

This is also a very ideal monitor for PS4 Pro and Xbox One X. Red Dead Redemption 2 on the Xbox One X on this monitor is pretty much a religious experience.

    • Freesync is an AMD tech. You should look for g-sync monitors or Nvidia-compatible freesync monitors (see list). Samsung is not on the list.

  • Is this one better considering it’s a VA but 4K. Or an IPS panel like Asus VA32AQ which is 2K (can get for about $400). I am torn between these 2 to be used mostly for home office with occasional Netflix and casual gaming. Any suggestions appreciated.

    • +1

Well I can vouch for this Samsung one. Works great for gaming and 4K Netflix looks sweet. For productivity purposes the 4K Samsung could be a better option for a screen of this size but I'm sure the ASUS could be great as well.

    • +1

If VA's colour shift is no issue to you, then certainly, the Samsung one is better. The Samsung monitor is really good (specs wise). HDR is allowing VA to make a comeback because VA monitors have better contrast ratio (whereas IPS really need very powerful backlight to reach HDR). VA's colour shit is no go for me (I dunno why, it just really annoys me).

While I much prefer IPS, there is one thing which really annoys me about IPS monitors - they have a much higher chance to develop dead pixels (or arrived with dead pixel(s) already). VA generally don't have dead pixel issue (but could have stuck pixel issue initially - though generally quite fixable).

4K monitors: I am not sure about this one, but the one I have cannot do 2K resolution (it's basically 1080p or 4K). If I want anything in between - then it is basically using OS scaling. Maybe it is possible to create a custom resolution on certain graphics cards. Would be good for the owners of this monitor to let us know whether it has 2K resolution mode (i.e. in Windows, can you select the 2K resolution). It could be just LG being slack and didn't implement it on the 4K monitor I have.

      • The specs say " HDR: N/A "

  • Thanks OP - Just picked up from Officeworks in Vermont. Shame the HDMI cable that comes with it doesn't actually support 4K - I used my cheap JB -HiFi and 4K works fine.

    • Yet if attempting to run 4k@60hz and 10bit colour you may need a specced out cable.

  • +2

    ew 60hz

    • Yeah I honestly don't get who this product is for either. It's a good price tho.

      • People who don't have GPUs capable of running at 4K above 60hz.

You need something very beefy to handle 4K@144hz.

  • Very tempting! Unfortunately none available @ OW in my area!

  • How does this compare to LU32H850? They look very similar

    • Same device.

      • My bad. I meant U32J590UQE

        • +1

The J590 is a lower-end, cheaper series 5 device (vs this a series 8). Expand the product info (All Specs) on the Samsung site to compare specific differences.

Doesn't have an adjustable stand (only tilt on the 5 series)
No QLED 125% sRGB colour space
          No factory colour calibration (tuning)
          No USB3 Hub
No Mini-Displayport input (not a big issue for most)

          https://www.samsung.com/au/monitors/u32h85/

          • @xuqi: Thanks mate, that is very interesting. I'm using two J590 at work, am thinking of this one for myself at home now due to the price

  • Feel like this for gaming but then will also need a big outlay to upgrade to a high end graphics card to drive it. Must resist!

  • +1

Thanks OP got one from Officeworks in Malaga. They still have stock. There is one in Subiaco too cheers

  • Don't buy this it doesn't have HDR

    • This one do support HDR10 and cheaper. 😊

  • How is this monitor for upscaling from 1080p to 4k? Been looking at it for a while but can never get a definite answer on how it will look outputting a 1080 image

  • I believe the original deal is gone… :(

  • deal is gone?

    • Yes, the last of MSY's stock sold out earlier today.
