Isn't that with the Intel integrated graphics, not the RX 550?

    • You're right. Link does say integrated graphics.

  • +2

    Hi OP,
It's $879 with Integrated Intel UHD Graphics.
If you include RX 550 2GB, the price is $1,022.00

Also with i5, not the i7 that was posted in the heading

      • Oh wow I didn't notice it, good pick up.

    • +2

      Thanks for flagging!

      • +1

Sorry for nitpicking but thought I'd point out the i5 should be 8250U, not 8550.
Not a bad deal, I'm guessing the difference won't matter to most.

These are a great machine. I got mine with 16GB RAM and a 1 TB hdd as well as the ssd. It eats Photoshop. Uses NVIDIA card.

    It's $1022 with the RX550.

And you negged because of this??

      • -2

Description was misleading, so yeah, no dealy-o.

        • +2

A polite notification would have sufficed, hardly worth a neg.

  • At that price I am more inclined towards this

    • I bought that for about $667AUD 16 months ago. Good laptop, but now it's a bit pricey.

    • Hdd vs ssd… Ssd wins.

      • +1

I can change HDD/ add SSD anytime. Cant drill a hole and add fingerprint scanner.

        • Thanks for teaching me something new!

        • You can get the fingerprint option for $22

This machine takes an M2 SSD. I now have 250GB of SSD plus 1TB of HDD. SSD's are cheap as chips nowadays.

Says the RAM is soldered. I presume that means it cannot be upgraded from 4GB, which would be extremely crap.

      • There is space for extra RAM

  • For the price $879, the cpu is i5-8250U, not i7-8550U.

    • i7-8550u need to add $200 extra.
      misleading tittle

  • Cashrewards has 8% cashback bringing it down to $808.68.

  • I think the Rx550 is not a necessary upgrade for this laptop if it has the same cooling potential as the e480.

I have the e480 with i78550u and RX550, after the first BIOS update the performance of the RX550 has been severely capped to keep the laptop cooler as it has really poor cooling performance. As a result, the laptop doesn't perform much better with the RX550.

To keep the RX550 running as it should be, users can't update their BIOS which means they'll miss on several updates. This also means the fan control remains the same as it had been on the original BIOS. It is really loud a lot of the times even if one's doing simple browsing on the internet or even using microsoft office.

    Just a heads up

  • Re i5 & i7, something to consider:

In Cinebench R15’s multi-core test, the E580’s nominally faster Core i7-8550U turned out to be slower than the E480’s Core i5-8250U. This was not only the case in the stand-alone test, but also during our sustained load test running Cinebench in a loop.

    see here and

The nominally faster i7-8550U turned out to be slower than the E480’s i5-8250U. While it is still much faster than its predecessor’s dual-core CPU, upgrading the E580 from the i5 to the i7 is utterly pointless.

    see here.
Apart from the CPU, that Notebookcheck review addresses some other points which you may want to consider before purchasing this device.

  • For someone happy with the i5 + adding the AMD Gpu is $1022 ($940.24) after 8% cash back reasonable?

Testing shows the i5 performs more than good enough but I want a gpu after looking at further testing. Gaming will not happen very often but want the capability to low level game.

Lastly, is there anything else under $1k that would be better than the i5 + AMD graphics E580? I missed the last deal with the i7 + AMD E580 but I'm unsure if it will be repeated in the near future, happy to wait if this comes up somewhat frequently.
