Best Way to Get a Cheaper iPad Pro 12.9 (New Gen)

Hi all,

I am wanting to buy an iPad pro and these things barely ever go on sale - so what's the best way to get the price down. Some ways I can think of are:

  1. Student pricing
  2. Entertainment book 5% off $100 gift cards at JB Hi-Fi

What else can I use?

Thanks!

  • Why don’t you exit your nbn and get a one with plan from Optus

    • Can you expand on this?

      • I've had a look on the Optus website and this would end up costing me about $300 more than if I bought it outright - not including the extra 5-10% off I could probably get.

The suggestion is that you get 100GB data so could possibly save your money on cancelling or moving to a cheaper home internet plan.
Optus had a double data 200GB deal recently which was a bit more suited to replacing home internet for the casual user.

          • @unco: Ah thank you. I am already with Optus and get 100GB of data - and that's not enough for my household. I can't change plans to the double because I still have months to go!

            Thanks though

  • A friend of mine pricematch the student pricing on Apple’s site at officeworks and got futher 5% discount. Worth a try if your university have “Apple on Campus” program.

I've seen a few deals on Ozbargain, then if you have to be going overseas in the next 60 days claim GST back Tourist Refund Scheme

    • Thanks mate. Unfortunately not going overseas :(

  • If you are a Suncorp benefits member, buy DJ gc at 6% off then buy iPad Pro at DJ.

    • Only a handful of stores sell the iPad pro and you can’t have it delivered

      • Yes. I bought it online and pickup in store.

I sometimes get my Apple products second hand. They're pretty resilient and it's usually 20-30% off if it's only 1 year old.

  • Salary sacrifice

At my work we can salary sacrifice one phone, one laptop and one tablet per year

    • Hm that's an interesting idea that might work. Do you end up saving that much?

      • Yep, say you pay 40% tax

When you earn (gross) $1000 you only get $600 in your pocket

If you buy a $550 iPad salary sacrificed you save $50 in GST then the rest is removed from your earnings so you really earn $500 then tax on that is $200

So instead of $600 out of your gross $1000 earnings you get iPad + $300

Ergo the $550 iPad cost you $300

Even better when combined with discounted gift cards because the tax invoice will show the whole amount

  • Befriend a tradie. Instant write-off and an input tax credit.

    • Well I’m studying in relation to my work so I can claim it on tax that way. But not sure how much I’d actually get back

      • Then salary sacrifice will work for you. Because of otherwise deductible rule there wouldn’t be any fringe benefits tax payable by your employer. You will need to sign a form that you used it for self education expenses.

  • Merged from iPad Pro 12.9 (New Gen)

    Hi all,

After an iPad Pro 12.9". Probably just the wi-fi model, lowest memory. I am a student so will be able to get student pricing.

Let me know what you can find :)

    Cheers

        Great comment mate…

This is the place in the forum where you post your product you want people to find you a bargain, and that's what I did.

You can take your useless comment elsewhere.

        • My response was for your original post, which read:

You have since updated it to say "Let me know what you can find"

        They used their resume template.

    • Gumtree is your best bet man.

You can try ebay but from my experience the best deals are in gumtree but beware scammers I was done once by an iPad pro scammer.

Did not work out well in my favour.

Have had a few bad experiences with gumtree in recent years.. Wouldn't recommend for Apple products.. could be stolen like it was in my case.

        • Yeh I agree with Gumtree - definitely seems to be getting bad in recent years. I’ll only sell or buy anything in person now otherwise it’s too risky.

Yes but I thought I’d put it in the appropriate thread… Didn’t realise this thread existed (and didn’t get any good answers)

    • If you're a student, the best deal currently is very likely the Back to School deal from Apple. Student pricing plus the free Powerbeats3.

You can keep the Powerbeats or you can sell it for extra savings. Plus a little bit of cashback from Cashrewards if you order from the online store.

      https://www.apple.com/au-hed/shop/back-to-school

      • Didn’t think the cash rewards bit! Thanks

        • Yeah definitely at that high price and cash back type deal would be huge and awesome.
