    • +1

      va2719-2k , has been at $299 normal price for 2 years +

no freesync but can do 80hz with OC

can get cheaper during ebay 20%

  • 29inch monitor shows 2K resolution in product page..

@ddqfornikeya : You may want to update post title..

Pretty good deal. Unfortunately just got my Samsung 27inch(1080p) last week so can not take this one.

    • 34" also shown 2K

It's 1080 vertical. That's all that matters. UltraWide obviously has the extra pixels horizontally.

      they call 2560x1080 (21:9) as 2k

      they also call 2560x1440 (16:9) as 2k

everyone can call whatever they want since 2k is not a term defined by any standards

      • As you said, there's no such thing as 2k, it's a stupid made-up term. 2560*1080 is the lesser of the ultrawide resolutions, it's 1080 vertical and it looks horrible, especially at 34".

        • i have one in office and it looks fine displaying outlook + office side by side without bezel

34" UW is not big at all , similar height as my secondary 24" 1080p

so it's like one and a half 24" 1080p stitched together

          • @dcep: I've got the ASUS 34, had since launch, it's significantly better than a 1080 equivalent, especially for work related tasks.

It's next to my 32" 2560*1440 and that looks notably worse for text close up despite only being a little taller.

If you have it set back a fair way that's completely different though….

1440 is the ideal count though, 4k without scaling isn't practical for everyday use at normal sizes.

@scuderiarmani: 1080p at 34" doesn't look horrible. I'm sitting 1.2m from mine and can read everything perfectly with 20/20 vision. How close do you sit to your screens?

Other people I know personally have 27" (and larger sizes) at 1080p and have zero issues with clarity, their eyesight is fine as well.
I'm not saying that 1440p or higher is unnecessary or anything like that, it's only that 1080p is not as bad as everyone thinks it is.

              @phunkydude

A 34" UW is the height of a 27" 16:9 - not a 24" 16:9. I still have my old 27" screen off to the side of my 34" UW and they are the ~same physical height.

              • @Goldfire: 1.2m away??? That's probably twice or more the typical viewing distance… I did say if you sit back it's ok. But 1.2m is not practical for 99.99% of desks.

                • @scuderiarmani: Twice the typical distance? Holy moly… Do some people really sit at ~60cm from their screen?

I just tried leaning forward to 60cm away, and of course, I can make out individual pixels, but I think I'd simply end up with a headache if that was a permanent thing for me.

My desk is 80cm deep with the screens VESA mounted to the wall the desk is up against, then add in my chair depth and me sitting back a little. My other screen (27" 1080p) that's set off to the side on an angle which is 1.1m away from my eyes.

I'm not using any form of scaling though, it's still at 100%.

No wonder people complain about 1080p resolutions if they're that close to it. (I don't intend that to sound snarky, it's more of a curiosity thing for me)

                  • @Goldfire: I'm around 80cm on a big corner desk with the Asus 34 at 1440p.

Id say that distance is fairly normal. And more so, it's immersive which is what you'd want with a curved UltraWide

              • @Goldfire: 1080p at 34" is fine for gaming, but the pixel scaling in windows 8/10 and macOS make text look awful, especially in Microsoft apps. When I work from home on this screen, the text looks cringeworthy, but still usable. Would definitely prefer 1440p for work/office use.
Interestingly in windows 7, text looks absolutely perfect because the scaling wasnt implemented in that version of windows.
Can't justify an upgrade to a 1440p version though.

                • @Jonseey: Hm, I can't say I have issues with text looking awful. I do have ClearType text turned on and calibrated on IPS screens. Have you checked to see if you have ClearType on?

That said though, a friend of mine has a VA screen and it's very noticeably worse for text, even with ClearType on - I was asking why the text was much worse than what I expected.

I've got text scaling turned off though, that might be why its never been an issue for me personally.

I agree on not being able to justify the upgrade to 1440p or higher. Back when I picked up this current UW screen (LG 34UC98-B), it seemed like a good balance between price (~$800 delivered when they were going for $1100 normally) and features like 144hz and G-Sync.

When it karks it, I'll look at 1440p or 4k screens, they should be a bit cheaper by then.

  • I have the 29' and really like it for my basic gaming system. Be aware it doesn't have DVI, only HDMI, so no freesync via Nvidia cards.

    • 1080P is still great for gaming, you never have worry about dropping graphic settings and frame rates are very stable.
