The only thing that matters is the load rating… After I've drunk all the beer in it, can I safely sit on it without receiving an icey enema?

  • Woolworth always has willow 25L for half price which end up selling for $21. So how is the quality comparison?

  • Bunnings also has Sommersault 26L Red Cooler for less than $20, which is a good price. https://www.bunnings.com.au/sommersault-26l-red-cooler_p3240…

    Anyone knows about the quality?

    • Blue = 🥶
      Red = 🥵

  • Why on earth don’t Bunnings do click and collect? Get with the times!

Same reason they don't have stock locations for items on their website even though they know it.

They want you to walk around the entire store looking for the thing you need and hope you buy a million other things you didn't know you needed.

      • They have store maps on the site so you get a rough idea where something is located.

I am intrigued, and perhaps somewhat annoyed, that these types of containers are called 'coolers'.

By themselves, these boxes do not 'cool' anything. If they are well insulated they may slow down the rate of an already-cool item becoming less cool. If you put a room temperature bottle of drink into one of these boxes it will not miraculously become 'cooler'.

Ah…. but what about if there is ice, or ice-packs or ice-bricks?

Certainly the presence of an outside-introduced cold item like ice will result in warmer items placed in the box lowering their temperature. (As they will be seeking enthalpic equilibrium.) But it is the ice doing the cooling, not the container. The box is not cooling; it is simply providing the environment for heat transfer between different items.

I'd suggest a more appropriate name for these kind of boxes would be: 'moderately-insulated heat equalisation container'.

    Am I grumpy this morning?

Cobber, you pop into the bottle-o and grab a few tinnies and some icy poles for the nippers and throw them in your esky
and by the time you jump in your ute you have a cold one for the road, it's not hard yakka

      cooler
      noun
a container for keeping food or bottles cool

keeping is the operative word (but maybe not too long!), not making cool!

By definition the combined items should already be cool / cold before placing in a cooler. Otherwise they can't be kept cool.

I think you are looking for a Colder - next aisle over, mate😀

Of course cooler is the generic term for these containers sold under commercial names like Esky (which I still use).

      grumpy this morning?
We use common words like this without thinking. So thanks for making me think👍
