My Area Is Getting NBN in 2 Months Time, Best Provider?

Hi guys,

My Area Is Getting NBN in 2 Months Time. I'm currently getting 10Mpbs with TPG for $59.95. Looking to switch to NBN 50 from TPG for $59.95 (unlimited data).

I think my area is HFC (or it was, anyway). I currently have a pretty nice ASUS AC1900 ADSL2+ Modem Router.

Questions - is it just an Ethernet cable into my router or do I need a cable modem?

Is there anyone much better than TPG? Extel comes up in Whistleout but I prefer to keep things simple and just go TPG ADSL2 -> TPG NBN unless there is a significant benefit.

I don't think I can get 50Mpbs for less than $60 although I'm unsure if there are other retailers out there that give bonuses like Spotify/Netflix/etc.

Thanks!

AussieBB if you want consistent high speeds during peak and great customer service and OK to pay little extra than the cheapest for it. (They do monthly plans so can switch anytime if unhappy.)

You will likely need an NBN compatible modem which they and anyone else will sell you. Don't have to buy it from provider (although easier) as they will provide you the config settings.

AussieBB Enter "TV1FREE" for your free first month (helps to cover the cost of a new modem).

Def Aussie BB. I had a fault which they had fixed quickly and even called me a couple days later to make sure it was all good. They are worth paying a few bucks more per month for.

TPG and ABB should have similar speeds so it will come down to price, contract length, support, extra benefits, etc.

You kinda get what you pay for with NBN providers. I've played the NBN hop-scotch game and finally landed with ABB as my preferred provider.

I've gone with very budget providers that are even cheaper than TPG (DeVoted NBN, which collapsed), which was merged with Nuskope (good service but their plans are poor value and I left them when they raised prices) then went to Skymesh (started off great! but then it was sold off to a not so great company), Telecube (they too, just collapsed) and now I'm with Aussie Broadband.

If your priorities are on reliability and speed, particularly in the evenings and you want to get close to the advertised speeds, it's best not to take the super-tightass approach to choosing the ISP.

ABB unfortunately don't do discounts once you're in (although this can be said of many other telco providers anyway). New customers get the 'bait' but existing customers won't get much love.

      there's superloop now.
      $89.95 100/40.

  • Quite a lot of people have had issues on ABB with youtube/facebook buffering and pings for gaming (WP forums).
    Also twitch lag.

  • From what I see TPG and MyRepublic are the best value among big brands.
