Dell Inspiron 13 5000 2-in-1 Laptop Core i5-8250U, 4GB DDR4, 256 GB SSD, Full HD 1080p Touchscreen $569.05 @ Microsoft eBay

PUSH5

Seems to be a great deal for a Dell Inspiron 13 5000 2-in-1 at over 40% off. The spec details on the ebay store are blank so I went to the Microsoft Store website to get details. I have been told by the chat agent that the listing on ebay is exactly the same as the one on their website under this link https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/p/dell-inspiron-13-5000-2-in…

I know that 4GB isn't great for a laptop but I was told by Dell chat that it can be upgraded so I will buy another 4GB ram to upgrade it to 8GB. Please check the model specs and ram upgradability yourself before buying but I am confident that the information is correct.

Price on eBay is $599 and you can use the 5% off code PUSH5 to bring it down to $569.05

Order this one but maybe hold onto the one you already have until we find out what processor we get from eBay.

Then you still have the choice to return either.

These continually conflicting specifications reported from MS eBay are disappointing to say the least.

    • +1

Just got mine. Can confirm it’s the i5-8th gen

  • +4

    Just delivered it's an 8th gen i5.

    Thanks OP and other posters!

    • This is great news!! Looks like the calculated gamble paid off and we all will be getting a great bargain.

      • +1

        Absolutely!!

I was preparing myself for the trifecta of disappointment though what with:

        1) Kogan Samsung Galaxy Note 9 price error

        2) Good Guys Clusterf@#k with the Xbox One X

At least Microsoft has come through!

    • +1

      Me too. Confirmed 8th gen.

  • Is this one worth to buy?

      where else can you get a new i5 2-in-1 for $569 ?

  • +1

    its back in stock….

  • +1

And as quick as a flash back out of stock as only one unit restocked!

    • +1

LOL….in stock again……….i can add it in my cart….

  • +3

Also can confirm 8th gen i5 (delivered today).

Asked Microsoft support via email feedback to clear this up.
They should clearly state what they are selling, not a generic model which may have been used for different spec'd machines.

Very happy with my purchase thanks again OP.

If anyone wants a RAM upgrade, newegg currently has 16gb (2 x 8gb) G.Skill DDR4 2400mhz sodimm for $130 inc GST and shipping.
    https://www.newegg.com/global/au-en/Product/Product.aspx?Ite…

Apparently RMA on RAM is good through G.Skill, not so much for Corsair which swayed my decision (also its cheaper than the corsair).

    So total $569.05 and $131.30 = $700.35.
Can flip the original 4GB SODIMM for around $40. So $660.35 total for 8th gen i5, Full HD screen, and 16GB RAM.

    • Don't know much about RAM but would like to upgrade to 8GB rather than 16GB. Would something like this be good https://www.msy.com.au/ddr4/21099-crucial-so-dimm-ct4g4sfs82… or any other recommendations around that price point

      • Should work fine. DDR4 SODIMM 2400Mhz.
        http://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=ddr4+4gb+sodimm…

There someone selling a few 4GB SODIMM DDR4 2400Mhz SK Hynix chips on Aus eBay for $38 or best offer.
Sold a number of them with positive feedback, so that's probably your cheapest option.

(If you were in Perth I'd offer the stick I'll be pulling out of the machine when my newegg RAM arrives)

        • Thanks mate. I am happy to spend a little bit more if it will produce much better performance. Does it usually matter what brand or type I choose or any 4gb stick in that list will produce a similar type of performance?

          • @zinga77: I've seen a lot of posts where people have upgraded the ram for this machine with the exact same ram you linked to from msy:

            Crucial SO-DIMM 4GB Single DDR4 2400.

Just make sure any ram you buy is SO-DIMM DDR4 2400(Mhz) and you should be right.

            • @prxy: So it makes no difference having two different RAM brands in the laptop? Good to know that the Crucial RAM has been used by many others that are upgrading

              • @zinga77: No issue with two different brands so long as specs of the ram are same.

                • @prxy: so who wants to be first to crack open the case and identify the stock brand/model of RAM ?

  • +2

I received the i5 8th gen as well. Given the lack of specs in the listing and the conflicting info from MS sources I was relieved to not get short strawed. Still feel it could be possible some could receive the i3 version as MS run out of i5 stock.
Now to decide re ram, 8, 16, or shudder! 12;(

      • It's an earlier model (2016) but I think the layout is similar.

I think this is our model which does seem to indicate a similar layout.
