Doesn't look like this would handle much more than easy single track runs. I wouldn't be using this for any proper mountain biking. Likely a good commuter bike, but better bikes can be had for the price (minus electric) for road use.

If somebody wants an electric bike then a better non-electric bike isn't a workable substitute. It's the electric part that is the selling point.

      • Yup, agreed. Just thought I'd point this out is all. I would still encourage people to go non-electric if possible, only because of the health gains it provides.

Further, is this bike legal here? Does it need approval? Can it be ridden on the road legally?

        • why wouldn't it? in NSW atleast bicycles are not allowed on footpath, so riders are meant to ride on the road anyway.

          • @hippo2s: Adults are allowed on some footpaths. Children up to 16yo are allowed on all footpaths and adults carrying children or accompanying children are allowed on footpaths as well. Either way e-bikes need to conform to certain power restrictions so approval to use in Australia is important.

    • Agreed.
With low-end Shimano gears, and a hub motor, it is only for on-road use, or good tracks.

The 55Nm from hub motor is no good in MTB conditions.

    Prague Electric Mountain Bike

    Do you take Czechs ?

  • I'm intrigued:
    - All of the testimonials are from overseas, but some state they purchased from Leon Cycle (via Amazon in various countries).
    - The site shows 30% off for 'opening special'.
How long have you been trading in Australia?
Are these products certified for use in Australia?

      According to their website:
      Started trading January 2019
It's a pedelec so the motor size of 250w complies with the standard (EN 15194:2009). The compliance label should be just next to the crank.

    A quick check of ABN:
    LEON CYCLE PTY LTD
    Active from 06 Jul 2018
    Main business location: SA 5063

Address as per website: Address: 2/7 Anzed Court, MULGRAVE, VIC, 3170, AU

Search of address returned business name of Argus Technologies (Home cinema etc)

    I'd be careful.

    • Hey, it is a real business address.
Office and warehouse, not somebody's parents garage.

Were you expecting a high-street shop front?

      • What even are you on about? Did you even read the comment?

    • It's a $1000 bike…

      • …take out the elec components and the specs read more like $300-400 :P

        • +1

And why would you take the electrics out of an electric bike?

          • @Quarn: …so you can actually get fit ;)

          • @Quarn: It's like 'oh but a C63 is just a C class'…

            • @hippo2s: …a C class that you've got to push Fred Flintstone style with a hole cut through the floor pan. Beep Beep.

        • I'm implying that for $1000 if the shop did a runner it's not a deal breaker and you'd get $1k value out of the item.

I haven't shopped for electric bikes for a while but if it's a $300-$400 bike bare then $600 for the electric kit already fitted and with batteries seems fair.

  • Seems like a decent bike with pretty good entry level parts.

  • Dosent say what brand the battery cells are.
