OP - Maybe I didn't look hard enough but couldn't find any mention of the motor wattage - could you please advise?

    • Sorry the motor wattage is 300 watts

  • For those in VIC. Illegal as it's more than 200w and can go faster than 10km/h

    • +5

May as well just state that they're illegal everywhere except QLD

      • -1
        • +3

Did you even read your own link?

Wheeled recreational devices and wheeled toys used for recreation or play should not be confused with personal mobility devices or ‘rideables’ as there are differences in the rules.

          Which takes you here

          • @Hinee: Thanks. Didn't know that. Its suss that vendors say to check laws yourself. Are they claiming no responsibility and hope buyers don't want to do a quick search?

            • +1

@orangetrain: Sort of. As far as the letter of the law goes - you aren't allowed to ride these anywhere public outside of QLD. Having become extremely interested in getting my own scoot I've followed along pretty closely with the threads that have been popping up lately and a fair few southerners have been using them to commute no worries. Having said that - you haven't got a leg to stand on if you get pinged for it. Having used Lime in Brisbane I can honestly say I don't think this is a fad that's going away any time soon and the rest of the country should follow suit soon enough.

I'm more shocked than anyone that Brisbane is ahead of the curve in something like this!

              • @Hinee: Thankyou for you interest and thankyou for clearing this out. We are working very hard with other states' government to rise the green flag. Gladly QLD is the first to approved, and more states will be joining soon. We will keep you posted. And again really thank you for your interests with Mearth, we aim to make the Best Electric scooter in Australia.

      • other than private property..

      • So QLD is the only state suffering the LIME plague?

Also, perhaps not this seller specifically, but isn't this whole tech REALLY overpriced?

        • Incredible I know. We can embrace Some E-Transport but cant seem to work out daylight savings.

Hasn't been too bad really I think folks kinda like it, getting a lot of use. Shame the bike hire scheme wasn't as good…..

I have seen a lot more folks on private scooters since the Lime's were introduced. Pretty handy and FAST for folks not willing to join the Lycra warriors.

The skateboards seem ridiculous price also ? Maybe someone can explain the cost breakdown.

        • It all comes down to how you put value in your own money really. I've had an absolute shitload of fun thrashing these scooters around the city at all hours of the night but there are some critical flaws with the hire scheme.

I live in Toowong and last week I needed to get to West End at 6pm. I jumped in the car, sat in traffic and travelled the ~4km in about 35 minutes. This was the moment I really got serious about looking in to getting my own scooter. They literally make commuting fun and enjoyable and in SO many different situations they will be the fastest mode of transport without question. Being able to get to the Gabba for a 6pm BBL game is next to impossible from home - if I were to scoot down the bikeway, across the Go-between and through South Brisbane I'll be there faster than any car or 2 train journey could. And then have it ready to take me straight home afterwards!

This tech is still in its infancy and will obviously do nothing but get better and cheaper, but for the vehicle you end up with I think $1000 is a fair price.

          • @Hinee: Yeah I have an ebike, only issue is where do I put it after I've reached the end? It is a folding so it's less obstructive, but still a PITA. These scooters, even collapsed, are still pretty big and doubtful they'll fit in a locker.

I'm eyeing off a cheap e-skateboard cos those can be super tiny.

            • @kwchaz: I'd be looking at getting something like this that can be attached to the frame and locked.

              • @Hinee: Yeah sadly I have the XiaoMi one so it won't fit to the main part of the body, might fit on the seat pipe but that needs to be almost completely removed to fold/unfold it. :( I suppose I could just not fold it when I get to the other side… :< Right now I use a D-lock that fits through the frame and wheels when I fold it.

    Mearth Elecric Bike](https://www.mearth.com.au/products/electric-bike)

Utilizing Mearth’s self-designed Force Sensor, the Mearth E-Bike can detect and sense the level of effort and strength applied by the rider when in motion.

It is programmed to “understand” the mind and thoughts of the rider and will provide the corresponding amount of “power boost”, in accordance with your specifications and speed.

Well this must be a world first - A mind reading e-bike and for this price an absolute bargain! If it can really "understand" my mind and thoughts it would know that I'm thinking of a rebadged cheap Chinese made electric bike right now.

    • What that sentence meant was that, our e-bike understands when the rider isn't giving enough power so the bike will give you a "power boost", that why its quote on quote understand.

  • Hi Mearth Rep,

this looks like a Ninebot ES2. Will there be a range extending battery?

    • You can literally get a genuine ES2 for this price in Australia.

    • +1

These are the guys I've been dealing with this week in regards to an ES2/ES4. They allow free pickup in their Fortitude Valley storefront and have been very responsive to heaps of questions. Also of interest is they offer Zip financing, and as the ES4 is under $1000 the only fees associated to paying via this is $6/m for the service. $166/m over 6 months and only paying $36 for the privilege is pretty handy in my books

  • Specs on both the Ninebot ES2 and our Mearth X are different however to answer your question. Unfortunately, the battery can not be extended.

    • And the Mearth product is more expensive than a genuine ES2 from an Australian seller and you will get minimal support from Mearth according to Google reviews (see my other comment).

  • Note: Laws vary between states, please check your local laws to find out the latest information about electric scooters.

Would be easier to say "legal only in QLD".

    pre-otder. Free Delivery to NSW

Pre-order a product with free shipping that's not legal to use in that state? Sorry, what am I missing here?

    • You can use it on private property.

      • +1

No one is going to drop a grand on a scooter to ride up and down their hallway!

        • That doesn't make it not legal to use in your state. :P

    • We've been selling electric scooters for over 2 years all over Australia and in that time have had no one contact us who has used the scooters on the footpath with any issues when doing so.
But of course, if your state prohibits the use of electric scooters on the footpath, and only riding on private property then that is what we would recommend.

    • Hi Ash, Thank you for your interest. We are working very hard with other states' government to raise the green flag. Gladly QLD is the first to approve, and more states will be joining soon. We will keep you posted. And again really thank you for your interests with Mearth, we aim to make the Best Electric scooter in Australia.
It is legal to use in NSW but not in public area. Some of our customers are quite creative, they use it in their winery, warehouse, golf course, farm, even backyard or garden etc.

      • In fairness to your customers you probably need to be more direct in your product description about the product's illegality in public areas (which impact >80% of the Australian population).

For those in NSW fines (as of 2015) were:

        $319 if used on footpaths
        $637 if used on roads

As with all fines in NSW, these are indexed to inflation and increase annually.

Those of us who don't have a winery, this could be a very expensive trip around the block!

        • Really appreciate your suggestion, we do tell our customers carefully to obey the states' law.

          • @Mearth: As in… "Thanks for your money. Oh, you cannot ride this anywhere in public, just your own drive way."?

  • +1

Multiple 1 star Google reviews with multiple stores on google maps. They appear to have changed their maps title and location for their sale so people looking for reviews wont see the neg ones:

Original location on Google Maps and Sale location on GOogle Maps

Beware guys, their product quality is super poor, once you purchase you will have no support for your product…they're just looking to make a quick $$

Also - you can get a genuine ES2 for this price in Australia: https://gearforce.com.au/Ninebot_Segway_Kick_Scooter_ES2

    • We are not trying to just make a quick buck, we have relocated our offices to 114A Pyrmont Bridge Rd, Camperdown NSW 2038. We are so sorry that you have felt that you didn't get the customer service that you were looking for, if you have placed an order with us please email us and we will see what when wrong.

      • +2

If you've relocated then why did you set up a new maps listing instead of moving your previous listing? Also, why are there multiple 5 star reviews on your Google maps locations from Google accounts with one 1 review? Seems dodgy to me…

Also, your website lists both addresses.

        • +1

I think the Rep is on a mission in negging every comment he/she does not like!

    • +1

      Yep absolutely fake reviews.
This one and this one and this one and this one and this one have all only reviewed Mearth & a Chinese restaurant.
1, 2, 3 4 & 5 have only ever reviewed this store all at the same time and the cherry on top is Ming Ye has 5 starred BOTH stores!

Sorry Mearth, sometimes small businesses need to do what they need to do to stick out of a crowd, but OzBargainers are ruthless.

  • The es2 are using 2600mah battery cells whereas MEARTH X are using SAMSUNG 35E(3500mah) Battery. That's why ES2 only has 5.2Ah 187WH and MEARTH X has 7Ah 252WH Premium battery for a longer range and more power for the same size.

    • Hi Mearth, in the circumstance that the scooter stops working in a few months for example, who pays for the return shipping?

      • Hi Amanda,
If it is a manufacturer's issue, we will take care of all the repair costs and pay for return shipping from our end.

        • But you won't know until you have it and have a look at it?

  • +1

Why should I buy your scooter when I can buy this instead?

  • Our Lite II is better than M365 and our MEARTH X is better than Lite II.
Don't get me wrong m365 is a good product and definitely worth this price range.
And we are an Australian Company who make our own scooter and we are the ONLY ONE has a service centre, providing 20x7 customer support live chat, and local manufacturer warranty.

    • +2

How is it better? Just saying it's better doesn't automatically make it so.

      • True, we will make a review video soon explaining what makes us the best electric scooter in Australia.
Before that, we have an m365 in our office. Customers are welcome to come and try both out and see the difference. They can decide which is better.

        • +1

But for the benefit of OZbargain community could you outline the differences here? I'm sure you can do this in detail in the Video but I think you should engage with us right here in the forum since it is your own post. Also not everyone could drop by to try out the M365.

I got the fine about $2000 two days ago used the electric scooter in Sydney. Most be under 200W otherwise need to be registered and insured. (These type of scooters are can't be registered in NSW) asked lawyer about it.

So enjoy on your own property only.
