Just tried to make a purchase of the half price SIM. It's expired, but adding a $30 SIM to cart it shows up as having a "$30 for $8" offer applied to it.

Even better!

EDIT:
How could I forget the CR cashback of $4.50 making it $3.50 per SIM.

    And $4.50 cashback from CR

    • Did any one actually get the Cashrewards cash back on the last deal?
      I did not.

      • Mine's still pending :(

      • I lodged a claim for it and after they looked into it the did not honour the cashback.

    • can I get multiple cashback if I place 10 orders on this?

      • +1

You would be lucky if you get even once.

        • +1

No cashback for me even though met all conditions. Cashrewards not like it used to be.

  • when should i activate this by?

    • +1

30 days if using cash rewards

    • 25 Feb if you wants the bonus data, or any time before the sim expired (except the cashback offer)

      • source?

        • +2

never mind, found "Bonus Data for new Boost Anytime Plus™ customers only who activate or swap to Boost Anytime Plus from 15 November 2018. First recharge by 25 February 2019, with remaining recharges by 30 June 2019."

So I guess if you activate it later you only get the 12Gb.

  • expire date for the sim card?

  • got 1, thanks

  • +1

    New customers only.

I'm currently using them on the $40 plan. Got to say - lots of places the speed is lousy. This seems to apply to any company that uses 'parts of the Telstra network'. Might be fine in Mel or Syd, but roll of the dice anywhere else.

    • +7

Boost uses the full Telstra network, not Telstra Wholesale. The only thing it misses out on is carrier aggregation in some areas. Does your phone support all Telstra LTE bands?

    • +5

We had this debate on Ozbargain years ago, the consensus was that Boost uses the whole Telstra NextG 3G and 4G network with same coverage And speeds. As I have been sim swapping/porting/slutting for years now, in the past I questioned this as well as Kogan, and still not convinced we get full speeds/coverage. I heard rumours and read articles re-Telstra and their resellers as well as contracts then prepaid having a pecking order for data speeds giving preference to business contracts first, you can guess the rest.

Fairly hard to work out for sure if using in weak singnal hilly area with heavy congestion/usage and all the various weather variations etc.

      • +10

        It's a Oneplus 6.

I've only had Boost for a month. Compared to my previous Telstra Plan the coverage does not seem the same. Could be you do get 3G & 4G, but not all the frequencies. I can't actually see the 'parts of the Telstra 4G network' phrase on their site, so I'm not sure. (I know Woolies prepaid had that.)

Now, why has someone negg'ed my comment? I don't get why you neg someones legitimate experience. Do you only want to hear positive stuff about deals?

        • +4

Gave you a positive up vote mate

          • @Wally: Ok, maybe it's my phone. Could have sworn it was better on Telstra, but worth trying this.

Do you know if I need all these?

Telstra Internet & MMS APN settings
            Telstra Internet APN settings
            Telstra MMS APN settings
Telstra MMS APN settings (slightly different to the one above)

This stuff is outside my area of expertise, but the settings on that site for Telstra are different than what they have for Boost

            https://apn-australia.gishan.net/en/apn/telstra
            https://apn-australia.gishan.net/en/apn/boost

            • @wfdTamar: The settings recommended for Telstra are more comprehensive than for Boost - that implies greater coverage - or some difference at least.

          • @Wally: That points to the Telstra settings, not Boost.

          From this article, https://www.canstarblue.com.au/phone/boost-mobile-vs-telstra…
Boost is unique among MVNOs in that it’s the only one to use the full Telstra network. Others use only parts of it and may not offer the same level of coverage, especially in rural regions. However, where Boost differs is that it does not use Telstra’s full ‘4GX’ speed capacity, and has a speed cap on the 4G network – 100Mbps. You still get the same coverage, though.

So basically your experience seems about right.

          • @static: Boost doesn't have a speed cap. Check some speed test threads.

            • @sween64: I definitely know of one spot where I got 4G with Telstra, but not even 3G with Boost.

              • @wfdTamar: When I went to rural area in QLD-NSW border, both Voda and Optus lost signal and I (using boost) and my friend uses telstra retail both have same signal and same speed. I also checked with telstra support and they said Boost and Telstra have same converage with exeption for Telstra Air

      • I’m using Boost for a personal phone and our work phones switched from Optus to Telstra recently.

In the past I found myself using my personal phone pretty often for coverage reasons, and even where coverage wasn’t an issue it seemed to have lower latency when doing basic web tasks. Since switching to Telstra there’s no functional difference on my end.

It’s not to say there isn’t any speed difference, but nothing discernible without specifically searching for differences.

  • Thanks OP.

Still have heaps of various sim starter packs but could not pass this up.

Only draw back is to get the cashback need to activate within 30 days of order. Even at $8 for a $30 starter pack great deal.

I am currently with boost this month till expiry of the 29th, then port out to Optus ( using a $10 starter pack with 5 day expiry ).

If I then port back to Boost after five days, will Boost/Telstra accept the return port even if I only ported out for less than a week? Obviously want that

cashback for this deal if possible.

  • does boost automatically issue tax invoice for every recharge like aldi ?

    • No, no tax invoice as far as I know.

  • +1

i think there will be a issue if ur on telstra prepiad nad trying to switch to boost mobile using a sim card that has credit.
i was unable to switch from boost prepiad to telstra prepaid sim with credit in it, have to port out to other carrier and port back into telstra.

    • In similar boat currently on boost. Any idea if porting out for 5 days is enough? Or similar to Kogan, must be over 30 days?

      • +2

I ported from Telstra postpaid to Voda prepaid to Boost prepaid within the one day, if that helps.

        • Thanks, that was the answer I was hoping for :-)

  • +1

i think 24 hours is fine

  • If I port out then back again, am I considered a "new" customer?

    • +3

Yes, u will be VIRGIN again

    • Just got off online chat with customer rep and can confirm if you port out then back in again you're considered a "new" customer ;)

  • Damn… I purchased this yesterday for $15 because the promotion's last day was yesterday.
I'm going to email them and see if I could get them to give me the $8 deal instead.

  • In what way would this deal be better than that $8 Telstra SIM?

    • +1

Guess no cashback on Telstra deal

    • +3

unlimited international calls to 10 countries

      • +2

Also if activating after both bonus data offers run out, the Telstra $30 sim reverts back to 8GB data, and Boost $30 sim has 12GB data and both expire in 28 days.

        • +1

bummer just saw boost data only rollover to next (1) month before expiring

          • @dcep: Yep, thought about that after my comment. Telstra currently has some data bank for those who re-charge.

Still,….one month roll over is better than none.

      • Yep, and suprisingly Vietnam is in that 10 country list. I am buying heaps. Any idea whats the expiry date on this sim pack?

  • Does Boost save your credit card and have auto recharged enabled by default?
Just caution of plans that have auto recharged enabled.

    • Yes they do but should have an option to not auto recharge

      • +3

No. It's not enabled by default. After you manually pay for a recharge you have to save the card details, then enable auto recharge.

        • lol you beat me to it…after seeing tekkky's comment i went to double check.

    • no they don't set it up automatically. in fact they don't even ask for your credit card when you activate your sim. i got one of those sims when they had a deal last time. used up the data that came with it, tossed the sim.

      • Thanks. Got burnt in the past with Kogan and OVO sims.

  • +1

    Confirmed $8 and cashrewards tracked.

  • I'm after an ongoing boost deal. 2gb is enough. Never going to happen? Seems like none of their deals are ongoing.

Edit: Looking at their website for the first time in a long time they are bloody expensive. I thought being Telstra network but not Telstra would make them cheaper.. but anything under $30 is 7 day expiry?!

    • +1

$20 for 3Gb over 28 days. There are a few $15 for 3Gb over 30 days (Optus or Vodafone network) on finder.com.au

      • Ah, I missed that. $22/mo effectively isn't convincing me, sigh. I'm currently looking to move to Telstra network as I am in fairly to very remote areas for work but it is only very occasional (half a dozen times per year for a couple days each time).

        • If you auto recharge it's per month (not 28 days).

I live in northern Tas and barely 30 mins (sometimes way less than that) out of Launceston you can lose even Telstra. Forget using Optus or Vodafone. People on here reckon Boost is the same as Telstra for coverage, but I'm not convinced. You're better off getting proper Telstra. There are some pretty good deals. if you don't need much data maybe Telstra prepaid with the long life option would suit (if you don't need a huge amount of calls). $70 or $100 a year!?

JB Hifi often have good deals for Telstra. Keep your eye on here for them. Or set up an alert on here for JBhifi telstra.

          • @wfdTamar: Yeah there have been some good JB/Telstra deals, usually requiring me to buy $1200 plan and sell a $900 phone. I've restrained myself so far, due to risk, but they are tempting deals.

Telstra Prpaid 30Gb SIM for $8

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/432167

  • Does anyone know what is the expiry date on these pack? $8 for unlimited oversea call + 12 gb data or more( 25gb) is insane value

    • My guess is late 2020.

  • +1

Anyone know how long shipping takes?

    • one day only .

ordered on 22/1 afternoon, then i got it this morning 23/1 9:30am.

      i am in sydney.

      • Cheers!

Boost are trash, app is pile of crap, doesn't work half the time, can't activate auto top up after app went to sh!t, zero support unless you want to talk to an "aussie" support staff member that uses skype from india/malasia or where ever, they used to be good but aldi is 100 times better, uses same network, better support, just work, boost can kiss my a##.

    • $3.50 for 12GB. Just going to use the 12GB within a month and then either stop it or port the number out.

  • Has anyone tried global roaming with Boost?
Just about to port to Boost for roaming while on a pacific cruise.
Interested in any pitfalls you can warn me about.

  • Thanks OP. got one.

  • SIM NOW $8 – GET 35GB

    and also

    12GB + 23GB BONUS ON FIRST 5 RECHARGES*

    a bit confused
If I activate immediately do I get 35gig or do I get only 12gig (and the extra 23gig when I first recharge)?
    thanks in advance

    • 35GB. Activating counts as first recharge. Don't forget to use Cashrewards to reduce price to $3.50.

  • Cashback is $4 at the moment

  • Do you need to use a new email with Boost each time?

The last time i got the $15 promo with $12 cashback was December and i likely used the same email address then.

It's been an hour and it hasn't tracked. If it does get tracked, it might not get approved because i used the same email on the Boost website. -.-
