Looking to replace my phone as it's a bit cooked, looking for Android (Android One would be awesome…) that isn't too big.
Wouldn't want to spend more than $400 AUD. Ideally under $350.

Not stupidly big, fast, good screen, good storage, good camera.

I have a Moto G5 plus and I agree it is a great phone, especially for the price.
But even I find it the size a bit to big to be used comfortably in bed or one-handed. The screen is only 5.2 inches (small by modern standards). But with the massive bezels, it almost hits 6 inches.
The camera hardware is good, but the software on stock is pretty bad. So you need to go through the trouble of installing a custom rom and Gcam to get decent looking photos. And most of the Gcam ports have issues, like focusing, green tint etc.
Just some things to keep in mind.

That's the problem with no notch, the phone is much larger for the same screen size.

Oh my goodness, exactly the criteria I've been looking for since only yesterday as well! I've settled my eyes on the Nokia 6.1, which has Android One and dimensions 148.8 x 75.8 x 8.2 mm. Selling on ebay for 329. Couple that with 15% off new ebay plus customers or 10% off ebay app tmrw for max savings!
Nokia 6.1 Plus also fits those specs.
Google Pixel 1 available on eBay for 280-300 new.
