Judging from the picture this is a Data SIM Only Plan: https://www.optus.com.au/shop/broadband/mobile-broadband/dat… from my experience with Optus, monthly data does not roll over.

  • +8

why does optus hate its current customers?

    • +2

Agreed. No discount for my husband and I both having expensive contracts (annoyingly 12 months offset from each other) but 10% off if we sign up for ANOTHER service? Why not reward the current customers?

      • +1

Because they depend on current customers being lazy and therefore not shopping around. The same thing exists in car insurance. Paying the renewal premium is always more expensive than paying for the same insurance as a new customer each time.

    • Though I had good customer service with Optus, I finally left them, their signal at my place is like ADSL, one bar or two bars all the time, shocking for 4G. So it doesn't matter how big the data I was getting, the signal is not good.

Just checked with Optus the 10 dollar bundle discount do not apply to data only SIM.

Not sure why this is being 'up-voted' so much? This isn't that good of a deal at all imo. You're paying almost $20/mth for only 10gb of data? Am I missing something here?? I pay $9/mth which includes 45gb of data and unlimited calls/texts with Telstra. It's not hard to do. Just takes a little patience and time when speaking to the right ppl.

    • +1

How did you navigate that deal? That's amazing!

    • +1

      Details?

        • +1

so u need to contact them to get 40$ off?

            • +21

@CrocDundee: Seems like a load of bs tbh. Not sure how you can negotiate with a case manager to deal with an issue large enough they'd offer you that much of a discount. How deceptive do you need to be also to have this done in 4 other accounts? Would really like to see proof of this deal…

              • +1

@Surrenicity: See my screen shot below :) - I don't have access to the other accounts to prove they also have the same deal as me but you can see on my account the two numbers with the same deal.. Apology accepted :)

        • +1

Can you screenshot your lastest billing and plan you have to help other ozbargainers to negotiate to telstra?

        • +7

          Hahahah, absolute BS!

          • -2

@[Deactivated]: Haha - don't really care that people negged me cause obviously you guys are paying way too much. But just so you can see that I am for real, here is a screen shot from my latest bill… Apologies accepted :D - $9/mth plan

            • +2

@CrocDundee: people neg you because you are talking about unobtainable deals! The fact that you have somehow managed to get a deal like this doesn’t mean that it’s available to everyone.
BTW, Optus once stuffed up my wife’s mobile account for more than a year, and in order to fix that they gave her a $40 credit for the next 12 months, bringing down her monthly bill to $0. Does this mean that you are getting ripped off?

              • @GregFiona: It isn't unobtainable for those who try. For example, when getting the same deal for the other accounts/numbers all I had to say was, "I want the same deal for this number that I have". 5mins later, deal done. But hey, I totally understand people can't be bothered.

I can actually do one better than your $0/mth. My brother gets paid $5/mth for his mobile plan after obtaining discounts over time. He hasn't changed his plan for almost 4yrs because of this. I also beg to differ why people negged me because of the comments made, they called BS, I proved them wrong.

EDIT - maybe I worded it incorrectly by saying people pay way too much. I guess what is a good deal to me could be completely different for someone else. Obviously people think this OP deal is great and to them, they are getting a good deal. So in reality, deals are relatively speaking depending on how one feels about any given deal.. My head hurts.. lol

                • @CrocDundee: if your brother gets paid $5/month then you are definitely getting ripped off(don’t worry, I’m not going to ask you for a copy of his bill). I just spoke to Telstra and they said there is no way I can get a deal like yours. So, at least for me, this deal is unobtainable

                  • @GregFiona: haha - you're absolutely right! I am getting ripped off compared to him. As I mentioned, normal telstra rep can't access the discounts shown on my bill. It has to be through a Case Manager. When speaking with the case manager all they had to do was look at how I was getting the discounts and he (case manager) simply applied them to the other accounts/numbers.

I do know that they are cracking down on discounts applied and don't give them out as much. While they still have this $49 plan though it should be obtainable.

Oh and this deal is still really bad! lol

  • +2

So expensive wow, people waste money on this.

    • So useless wow, you wasting your time on these useless comments.

      • Can’t tell if you’re being serious or j/k.

  • By paying $6.25 more, you can get Samsung Tab A or if you don't need 10GB data, then the tab is $17 per month plus 3GB data.

Got a similar mobile only sim in September 2017, it came with free Optus sport for a year (you sign up to Optus sport then they credited your account with $15). So I sign up with Optus Sport for a month and cancel it, however the $15 monthly credit still applied, so I paid $3.75 for unlimited calls plus 3GB of data a month for about 11 months until I port out to Kogan.

    • How can you cancel the Optus Sport?

      • I just logged on to my Optus Sport account and cancelled it. Initially, I just want to cancel it because Optus Sport is crap and I don’t want to pay $15 once the 12 months expired, was really happy that the $15 credit remains until I ported out of Optus.

Seems expensive to me for 10 gig with all the other deals around such as catch connect and they include calls if you use them I know you have to keep swapping Sims every month but they crap all over this.

    • Yeah, bouncing from Kogan to Catch every three months and getting 15-20GB for $3-5 is pretty hard to beat :)

      • And if you get stuck get an optus prepaid $30 sim for $9 or $10 and activate on the 500 gig for $2 a day. Which works out to 15 days for $9 or $10 for 7.5 gigs.I have activated countless Sims and never had a problem.

  • For $30 a month you get 10gb and an ipad. I know what I would choose

  • The Kogan deal is better:
    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-mobile-prepaid-voucher-co…
    13gb/30 days + Unlimited call/text for 365 $205

    This deal:
    10gb data per month No calls/text $225

  • Why don’t Optus allow free or $5 data sims on shared data plans like they used too. Telstra still do ?
    Aweful decision Optus

    • They provide $15/m data sim for sharing data pools. So greedy.

  • Telstra only offer share data sims to business plans, they removed that option for non business customers in new plans they started rolling out last year. Telstra want us paying for 2 plans to get data on another device you can't hotspot to your phone. As far as I know optus still offer data share to non business customers.

I don't see any value from this deal because there are cheaper deals out there. Not sure why it is even at the front page

    • -2

Careful - you'll get negged for saying that lol :P
