Professional insurance scammers. I’m guessing all the money is going into better low light performance.
Yeah I don't really see the point. Blueskysea B1W does the job very well indeed for under $60. Get two for $120 and you got front and back covered.
People that want useful footage in the event of an accident. Your $40 camera is poor quality and unreliable and doesn't record the rear of the vehicle nor if your car is hit when parked. There is a huge difference in quality between the cheaper and more expensive cameras.
We had some prick hit our car and drive off and the footage was clear enough to get the number plate, the vehicle, the drivers face and even his voice. Everything I needed to get his details from the police. Would a $40 camera have given me any of that? Nope.
But 4K? Seems like a gimmick
But 4K? Seems like a gimmick
Why? There have been plenty of times where making out a number plate is hard on a decent HD camera. I'd like them to come out with a combo 4K/HD camera with HD for night use. I plan to buy a 4K one for both our cars soon to supplement the Thinkware F770's we have fitted.
@Maverick-au: I make out number plates on my elcheapo 720p all the time.

Maybe under some circumstances but with a wide angle lens you are limited on what you can detect hence the requirement for more pixels.
For example a test using a Mini0806 (2561x1080)
"11m: Very readable. (White part of number plate takes up 62x15 pixels.)
14m: Quite readable, but starting to need to guess some characters. (49x11 px)
17m: Unreadable. (40x10 px)"

720p is a poor performer for a dash camera as it has so few pixels. 1080 is ok with fast and sensitive sensors available which are now starting to become more available in 4K. Having a high bitrate is important as well.
I've used my $40 cam for insurance claims and succeeded. 1080p quality so everything was clear… faces, voices, number plates…
Not paying extra $300+ to have it always on.
I just plug mine into a powerbank when parked for continuous monitoring, works well.
which 40 bux dashcam ?
xiaomi 70mai ?
Only 16GB. Autobarn’s xmas sale was better.
Which Xmas sale was better? They had the 16GB model for $559 and the 128GB model for $685.
With 16gb you can barely record few hours on 4k.
Upgrade the card! You don't want to buy the higher capacity cards with the bundle as the value is poor.
I've had a balckvue for 7 years and it's still running. It was 200 ordered in from the Korean distributor when it was 500 here for the same model in AU.
Im not sure how well the cheaper cams go at night or in the constant heat of the car. That said when this thing dies I won't spend over 200 on a new one.
Where about did you buy it from?
It was through eBay but the seller only sold blackvue from Korea. I got the details off whirlpool for the seller. Took about 5 days to arrive and was flashed with English firmwsre. Can't remember more than that as it was so long ago.
This cam costs more than my car…
So are we going to post all items on ebay?
Who needs to spend that much on a dashcam like seriously? My $40 cam shows HD vid and you can read number plates easily… Are people making movies out of their crashes?
