Looks like Amazon have the Echo Dot (3rd Gen) on offer again, not a bad price though admittedly not the cheapest it's been.

Oh, cool, then hooray!
Is 3rd gen any better than 2nd gen? Or just a better speaker?
The Alexa brains behind it must still be the same?Yep, sound is about the biggest difference.

Thanks!
Looks like sound improvement and Bluetooth/line out was added, plus looking a bit sleeker.
So you can get two gen2's for $49. Which is the best bargain? New to these as I have a google mini Thanks
That depends entirely on what you're looking for from it; the 3 has superior sound but if you're just after a voice assistant then the service is the same on both.
Thank you
Anyone have any thoughts on these vs Google Minis? I imagine since Amazon AU is pretty limited they are not quite as useful here….
About as useful as the Google Mini. I have one of the latter and find it OK for putting on Netflix etc. However, I find the Echo understands my accent more (I'm from Northern England).
Google mini - Youtube and Chromecast support
Bought an Echo and returned it for the Mini which seems to work better. Echo would often struggle with questions about location data whereas Google got it right first go. Google seemed to also be able to provide less chances of "sorry, i can't do that yet".
Just a heads up the new gen uses proprietary charging cable unlike the micro USB cable in previous generation.
Does it still plug into a normal USB at the other end?
Yes
The Echo Dot 3rd Gen uses a 12V 1.25A PSU.
The plug is a normal barrel type, 4mm outer diameter with about a 1.2-1.5mm center hole.
From Left: power plug; power socket; 3.5mm audio socket

Plug is not proprietary, you can buy them at any electronics supplier, eg. https://www.jaycar.com.au/1-3mm-dc-power-line-connector/p/PP…
Note: Check the fit, take your Dot into Jaycar and try it.So you could make up a lead to power it in the car, etc.
Any idea when Apple Music will be available on these in Australia?
Plus 200 minutes of Skype calling.
$59 is the cheapest ever according to CamelCamelCamel.
