Great little addition for those looking at home automation options!

I had seen these in Bunnings where the same kit with AU plug is $150. Thought a bit much so checked with Amazon US and found this bargain.

I have ordered one and had delivered now, confirmed while has a US plug it will accept like 110-250v so have plugged in and working fine with a simple US to AU adapter. Setup to work with Alexa and seeing what I can do now RE home automation.

To confirm yes there is the Orbit skill for Amazon AU, which I am using fine.

Lets hope its controlling the opening not the closing. It dies, leaves tap running non stop lol

    • "Tap is not responding" … I hear it all the time with my tplink adapters for lamps .. this is probably something I wouldnt trust to alexa.

  • Not sure about these single units but I took the plunge on the Orbit B-Hyve 6-Station controller a year or so ago and it's been absolutely amazing. Currently around $160 on eBay they just work so well and even alter the watering depending on local online weather forecasts. You obviously need to buy solenoids for each channel ($20-30ea) and run wiring etc. but yeah, I can very highly recommend them. I've setup four more since buying mine and they've all been great. Fantastic.

    • Can you please send a picture of your setup. Looking to do something similar.

      • Difficult to take a picture of something that spans all over the yard… plus I'm at work at the moment so I've just found this YouTube Video of a guy who replaces an older 'dumb' unit with a 12-Station Orbit B-Hyve and shows how easy it is to program from the unit itself and also via the App. The wiring and pipework etc. is all very easy and as it's all low voltage it's also very safe. Anyone can setup an irrigation system, it's really very easy and if you've got the time and take it easy it's also really enjoyable and very rewarding once it's all setup and working.

    • So do you run a script to set them off at specific times or HA or just start them via alexa every day?

      • Nah, the 6 & 12 Station Controllers are their own entity but with connectivity to internet/Wifi and therefore Alexa etc. Power it up and connect to solenoids then you can start programming via the App OR you can simply just use the built-in controls & screen which also makes for great redundancy if you ever have issues with your internet or Wifi connection as it'll happily just keep working by itself.

        • Does/Do the Station Controller need the WiFi hub or has its own WiFi connectivity?

          That sounds good!

Yup I've got the same thing, and it's awesome. It adjusts water based on weather etc which works so much better than my old rain detector…

  • Alot of bad reviews on this one, ended up purchasing the Linktap brand which was more reputable and has a better app. Also Alexa compatible. So far been great for my hose end irrigation setup.

    Oh B-Hyve baby.

    • Father? Is that you?

The price is coming up as $98.32 (AUD) when I go to check out. Even US dollar is $68.10 with shipping. Am I doing something wrong?

    • -1

You are correct it doesn't show the tax until last bit of checkout : /. Updating now.

Been thinking about this a bit and not sure it would work. Obviously a bit more work but can anyone comment on getting a cheap solenoid valve from Bunnings. A 240v to 24v adapter and a smart wifi power point to work with Alexa?

    My estimates are - $20 solenoid valve, $15 adapter, $20 smart PowerPoint, $5 waterproof box. = $60.

    Has anyone done anything similar?

    • +1

Interesting! It will work, but I think 240>24v must be AC>AC, not AC>DC

      • +1

Yeh deffs. The cheap $20 solenoid valve from Bunnings is 24vAC

  • Can you connect multiple solonoids to this hub also?

    • +1

No. The hub is just like a wifi adapter that then connects to the tap timers/controllers. You'd need one of the station controllers to connect solonoids.

      • Thanks deelaroo.

        • I'm wrong, see above if you get the controller type ones doesn't need the wifi hub.

  • I need this to work with IFTTT
