Is there any deals on 8GB cards for RX 570 or RX 580? Trying to future proof a bit. Or is this not worthwhile?

The 8GB cards seem to have gone up in price compared to recent deals

    • I am getting the RX 590 from PLE…

I can't find many RX580 8GB available at the moment, let alone at a decent price.

You can get two RX580 8GB cards from UMart for $329 https://www.umart.com.au/Radeon-RX-580_C.html?id=940&price_m…

    • Keep an eye out on Device Deal. They seem to have promos every few months on the Strix and Sapphire 580 8GB. I got the Strix for $330 about 2 months ago and just after I bought it the price was discounted even further to $299. Very happy with it.

      https://www.devicedeal.com.au/Graphic-Cards/AMD-ATI-Video-Ca…

      • I was waiting for that as well but they don't seem to do it again and I don't want to wait anymore… I've got all my parts ready except GPU.

    • To be honest, I have the 8GB RX580 and rarely see the VRAM usage go above 4GB. The card tends to choke from a processing speed standpoint at higher resolutions, before the extra 4GB has a chance to do much.

Still a great card for 1080p, and passable for 1440.

if you're playing @ 1080P the 4GB card is still a great deal, generally the textures setting in most games is what consumes the bulk of vram.

    • Thanks for this rule of thumb. Does this mean for 1080p there will not be any visible difference between high and ultra settings?

Sorry for the newbie questions. Haven't done any PC gaming for a long long time.

      • +3

There isn't usually that much of a distinguishable difference, between High and Ultra…

You'd be hard pressed to tell the difference, without having them side by side to compare . Even then, it would be difficult to really see much of a difference!

But Ultra, will obviously tax your GPU more. Hence get lower FPS from using such settings in certain games.

More Vram, the higher you can push your texture base. But you'd only have to mostly use more Vram for 4k gaming, really!

So 1080p will definitely be fine with 4gb of Vram..

GTA V with Ultra settings applied uses about 3.8GG @ 1080p . So just as a base line to use as a real scenario situation.

But I don't know, though….( Hopefully, someone gets that meme reference.)

        • So 1080p will definitely be fine with 4gb of Vram..

Many modern games are using more than 4GB at 1920x1080 now.

          • @Diji1: For Final Fantasy XV would 8GB be meaningfully advantageous over 4GB?

            • @CoronavirusVaccine: i dont play final fantasy so i wouldnt be able to give you a definitive answer, however, i can still give my input. i seem to run out of power and get between 45-55fps on my 580 before i exceed more than 4gb of vram. imho i would wait until amd drops their navi lineup and go for one of those cards or even still opt for the 580 but when its at an even more discounted price. i saw asus 570 cards for $150 a few weeks ago and im sure we'll see 580 8gb cards closer to $200 in the coming months.

              • @lovely: Yes this would be the rational strategy. Fingers crossed it happens sooner than later. Thank you for this opinion, helped a lot to put a good timeline on how things might pan out in the next few months.

Looks like I will be spending a bit of effort to squeeze a bit more out of the Ryzen APU to tide me over. Meanwhile pray Navi ramping to produce some insane prices on the last batch of Polaris!

            • @CoronavirusVaccine: https://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/final_fantasy_xv_pc_gr…

TLDR 4GB is alright but it can use more at 1080p but your first issue will probably be getting 60fps

          • +1

@Diji1: Yes, but probably at ultra settings and most specifically ULTRA textures. (High res textures)
You'll find 4GB enough @ 1080p provided you adjust the settings accordingly.

Of course more vram the better, however anybody gaming @ 1080p should not be concerned about buying a 4gb card at a decent price.

  • You have to jump on these deals when they show up. I don't think there is any logical trend to GPU price movement lol. The $150 deal for the RX570 is going to be hard to beat…

    • +1

Yes I am having regrets not having pulled the trigger on that one

      • that one seems to have a lot of hardware issues according to the comments in that post.

So hard to decide! I can't guess if these specials are because 4GB stocks are on the way out, to be replaced by 8Gb cards or… More Radeon VII trickling down to lower part of the line ups.

Do you guys think it's better to wait and see for a bit or snap up these clearances before the new gen cards get announced?

Can't remember which youtube channel i watched that mentioned one of the 580 4gb Aorus being the same as the 570 but with a high price point. Nonetheless, at this price im really tempted

That'd be the 2048 SP version. Officially, they're only sold directly to gaming cafes in china, but there are unscrupulous people in the supply chain so read carefully and run benchmarks if you're buying internationally.

    Not a deal - I bought a 580 from Umart 2 weeks ago for $229

  • Sorry for the noob question guys but is there much of a difference in getting an RX 580 from Gigabyte vs anyone else. And do they vary much in power consumption from the different manufacturers? I'm looking to upgrade my R9 380 so something a little better. I don't need to go fully sick but would like to run upgrade the output for the RIFT in particular. And only running 1080p at the moment

    • If you've got half an hour, this video should answer your question - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6n3hQlvkTk (you can save 5 mins by skipping from 19:40 to 24:20, he just talks about the impact of crypto mining on card availability).

TL;DW: When comparing the same card, the clock speed is probably the best indicator to go off for how the FPS will differ. If card A runs at 1300MHz and card B runs at 1365MHz (5% faster) then it should achieve 5% better FPS. Keep in mind that if card A runs a game at 60FPS then 5% more FPS is only 63FPS. Not a significant difference. The slowest and fastest RX 580 will be within 6% of each other, so this only equates to a few FPS. Remember that you can overclock the card yourself pretty easily to make up the difference but the fans might become too noisy.

Some better things to consider are price, the size of the card (if it will fit into your case, length wise and also how many slots it takes up on your motherboard), the fans on the card (how noisy, how well they cool), how much VRAM it has (dependent on resolution and texture settings in game, for 1080p 4GB should work fine but consider it a minimum, you may have to turn down some texture details - https://youtu.be/d59z04uKMnw?t=116) and probably even how it looks (colour and RGB if you're into that).

Not sure about power consumption but you should be able to find that out from each manufacturers website. Make sure your power supply has the right connectors ( 6 pin, 10 pin ect). You should also be able to find some YouTube reviews that give you this info.
