AU Plug Clarification

AC Input 100-240v~ 50/60hz 0.5A
DC Output 5V—-2A

This is a Japanese plug and I need a Australian plug. I'm having a hard time finding the proper one to use since I've searched through pages that have similar ones, but aren't the same and its gotten confusing.

Can someone tell me what specs would be safe considering the default plug ?

Australia mains is 230V 50Hz which is within those parameters so that plug is safe to use here.

    • More like 250V everywhere I've measured it, but the official range is 220-240VAC@50Hz yes I agree

  • The AC input it within Australia's range.

One of these (or similar) will work:

Alternatively, if it's USB, you can use an Australian USB adapter since the output is quite common. Look for one that says 2.0A or 2000mA.

Just grab a standard US -> AU adapater, or if you're in a pinch most tablet chargers should line up with those specs.

    • Thanks for the help, it worked fine.

      • As an alternative, if your device uses an IEC connection, you could buy an Australian cable with that connection. Have a look at the wikipedia page for IEC connectors (scroll down to 'Appliance couplers' and check the diagrams. It would cost about the same as or less than an adapter but the connection would be much more stable (US/Japanese plugs are loose/wobbly) and it looks nicer, if that matters. MSY is a good source.
