[SOLVED] Can I interchangeably use transformers from my 3.5" external HDs ?

Hey tech savvy crew of Ozbargainers,

I have recently bought a 1tb Verbatim ext HD from Staples. http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/42670
I also have sitting at home a 1tb WD ext HD.

I find that the Verbatim power adapter chunky and doesn't fit on my wall next to my other devices.
Am I able to used the power adapters interchangeably ?

They both have the save SIZE adapter head, same output VOLTAGE(12V) and same output AMPERES(1.5A).

    As issh said, the output is the same, which means they will work fine.

      Check the polarity though, you don't want your antimatter going into the matter hole! "Ye canna change the laws of physics, captain!"

      Seriously though, there should be protection diodes to stop damage if the +/- are reversed with a DC PSU; so hopefully mere dysfunction will be the only negative (pun intended) outcome; but stranger things have happened in the funny old world of electronics! ;)

        Polarity is the same. I wish features like this were standard across all manufacturers.

          Absolutely!!!

          It drives me nuts (actually, that was already a short commute) to have umpteen dozen bricks, blocks & plugpacks of assorted shapes & sizes hanging around, or sticking out of, various power points around the house; many of which have similar or identical voltage/current; thus could well be redundant if a standard was adhered to!

          I believe they've manage to standardise on 5V chargers for mobiles in the EU. That's one step.

          If you're feeling adventurous you could always cut the proprietary plug off one and wire it to the other.

          Just don't do this while it's plugged into the wall.

    Just cut those "wings" off the verbatim power supply. God knows what those are for, but they make it impossible to use the device with anything plugged in next to it!
