    True. It’s a long way, but if you are looking to pop by Singapore (and who wouldn’t… particularly if you’ve never been before? Even the airport is such a wonderland) his can be a good thing.

  Great airline and if you want to visit Singapore for a few days it'll be a nice lay overs.

  Beware of the flight back though, after my trip in Tokyo I just wanted to go straight home but flying 9hrs to Singapore, having a 2 hour layover and then another 9hrs back to Sydney was really taxing.

    Im seeing pricing change quickly.

    I found a fair in OCT for about $620, only to find that same fare now about $710 - and a quick search is not finding the low fare again.

    Mind you i am choosing the fairs with a low (16hour) flight time, compared with the 20+ Hours of the others.

    I also know the Rugby World Cup is in most of OCT which is when i am travelling, so suspect prices may be higher, if not accommodation will be through the roof, i may need to go in Nov and see what happens.

    I'm seeing the exact same thing, but also flights disappearing when more than 1 adult is selected. Maybe there is actually only a single ticket left on those flights?

      Yeah exactly! To verify this, I tried a different date. But exact same thing happens. Flights disappearing or prices pp increases. So don't think it is the availability.

  Was $642 this morning for a flight in October, and $670 now in the afternoon gahh… just booked 2 tickets for $680 each. Still a great price though!

  These Singapore Airlines flights also have fares that are eligible to be put on Layby too through STA. So you only need a $99 deposit to confirm and can pay them over time up until 10 weeks before departure. There's a $39 admin fee to setup a layby.
  Other members asked about flexibility, you can also get flexipass that waive the change fees too. Just a heads up the layby fares are a little more than these advertised promotional prices in this case. ie MEL to TYO return 13MAY/27MAY is currently $698 total (Still cheaper than airline direct).

  For those who don’t want to deal with stopovers there are $640-680 ish flights from Melbourne direct with Qantas and Japan airlines for about $640. I booked in late May with JAL as it’s in the 787 Dreamliner, flight time 10 hours each way instead of 16-17. JAL also includes 2x 23kg baggage per person and 10kg Carry on. More than worth the extra $50 imo to not deal with an extra 12-14 hours of flight time as well as layovers.
