Origin Energy releases special discounts for 9Saver members
Thanks to the support of more than 110,000 Aussie homes, 9Saver has unlocked a series of exclusive energy discounts just in time for summer.

These discounts are off Origin’s usage charges. They last for 12 months when you pay your bills on time. They are: 25% in New South Wales, 41% in Victoria, 28% in Queensland, 18% in South Australia.

The exclusive ‘Origin Saver’ offers which have won the 9Saver Summer Power Campaign are from Origin Energy and have no exit fees or lock in contracts.

The offers are available to new and existing Origin customers who pay on time and there are also pay-on-time gas discounts in NSW, VIC, QLD and SA.

For eligible solar customers, Origin Energy is also offering these special ‘Solar Boost’ offers with lower discounts but very high retailer Feed-in Tariffs.

For Victorians with Solar panels the FIT is 22c/kWh with 16% electricity usage discount.

        • Oh right thanks

Were you able to combine the 25c fit with the 25% off usage? I think i read in this thread someone had only 3% usage discount because of there FIT?

          • @ATTS: Yeah, the solar boost plus plan only offers 3% discount on supply, but it isn't a problem for us since we only use 4kwh from the grid on average each day. With our 5kw system exporting an average of 20kwh per day, we are well in surplus, and financially it works out a lot better than a lower FIT + higher supply discount

            • @pathacks: oh right, thanks

Just wondering, did you install solar battery aswell?

            • @pathacks: double post.

              • @ATTS: Although we'd love to, storage doesn't make economical sense at the minute, as the FIT is so high! When batteries come down to about $4k, it would be a more reasonable option… A Powerwall 2 is currently around $12k installed!

                • @pathacks: Oh i see.

Just curious if you wanted the battery in future. It can just be added on yeah?

Also curious how much your solar panels costed you?

  • Got 33% off NSW just by calling Origin directly.

    • How did you manage that? I got 26% off as a new customer last year, which dropped to 15% this year.

      • Signed up, then threatened to leave to Energy Australia.

        • Only got 25%, they won't give me 33% over the phone.
Do I need to actually place the order with Energy Australia?

    • I tried calling and talking to origin but they said the best they could do was 22%. I laughed and said I could get 25% online. They refused to do anything above 22% so I left them for a different company.

      • I had to mention 9Saver for 25% off.

These discounts should be by default. What a rip off normally

  • So I called Energy Australia to re-contract because I noticed that they had a 30% discount on offer, which is considerably more then the discount we currently have. I was gobsmacked when I was told that the 30% discount wouldn't apply until AFTER the 10 day cooling off period. WTF? I've re-contracted my insurance, mobile n broadband providers before and have always had the discount applied on the day i re-contracted, even though there was a cooling off period. When I told them I'll start looking around to switch to someone else, I was then told that It could take up to 3 months for my account to transfer to a new provider.

Has anyone ever come across this?

    • "I was then told that It could take up to 3 months for my account to transfer to a new provider".

They all do this. You will transfer to your new provider from the day after your next meter read.

The worst thing is that they only tell you about "new rates" on your bill. Utilities should be required to give at least three months notice of price changes so that people can shop around BEFORE the price increases.
