Is It Possible to Refund Unripe Fruit to Coles?

Just bought an 11kg ($11) watermelon at Coles, and when I opened it up the flesh was light pink.
I cut a piece off and tasted it and it was acidic.
Definitely not happy with it.
Anyone know if Coles would refund this?

What did the duty manager at the store you purchased from say when you called them?

    • I'll give them a call

      • They'll give you a refund. New slogan for Ozbargain, Try it before you post it.

  • Call them they will refund it. 100% satisfaction guarantee

    • I remember them having a 200% guarantee? Fresh or free. You get a replacement and your money back.

OK called them. They said they'll refund it.
Now I have to lug this 11kg melon back…

Roll roll roll your melon, gently down the street.

  • Unripe is different to bad/rotten fruit. If you are eating it when it's not ripe (why?) then while I wouldn't expect it to be "acidic" but it definitely wouldn't expect it to taste as good as when it's ripe.

  • I hope you're not planning on doing this to every fruit. Waste of food.

next time eat everything before you buy

  • Shame you have to return the watermelon and waste it. Could pickle/preserve it. Google.

  • unripe melon would be just lightly sweet, rather than acidic

    Soak it in vodka.

Eugh. While you got a refund, this strikes me as a little ridiculous, if for nothing else than that picking out fruit is really your responsibility, and picking out an unripe one your fault.

  • I’ve got a lot of rotting fruit left over in my fruitbowl from my grocery shop before Christmas. Can i take that back for a refund too?
