how many years since the inception of powerline adapters yet they still can't make it smaller to make way for the other dGPO socket without blocking it

Haha. I swear they are in kahoots with electricians to wire more PowerPoints into the home.

Might as well wire in some Ethernet ports instead

I've got an old Netgear one that uses a kettle cord - XAVB1004. Personally think it's the best form factor, but nobody makes anything like it… 😔

      • Western digital did… . had about 4 of them…. Also had multiple ports :)

The photos make them look deceptively small too.

      • That’s what she said.

She was more likely referring to the real thing as opposed to the photos.

I’ve had powerlines, not great but it will be my last resort.

Changed to the Netgear Orbi and the connection is much much better.

Exactly the same for me. Love the Orbi and great to ditch the cables!

      • These things run really hot too.

    • Which Orbi model would you recommend is the RBK20 good enough for a two storey home?

      • I’m in a two storey townhouse and bought the Orbi RBK50.

Can’t comment on the RBK20 but mine works really well from the far ends of the houses (ground floor to top end of the house)

I have spent enough on extenders and powerlines over the years so I don’t mind spending extra for something that’s solid and doesn’t need any upgrades for a while.

  • Make sure it's on the same circuit. Mine doesn't do anything.

  • I've had mixed luck with powerline adapters. Got a used set of iiNet branded 500mbps powerline adapters, and my 100mbps NBN service ran at like 15-20mbps if I was lucky. Recently moved and the same set now handles the 100mbps speeds of my NBN service easily. It all depends on how the house is wired. In the first scenario, the circuit was interrupted with the fuse box/breaker so the speeds were terrible. Now they are in adjacent rooms and work great.

    • I should add that it works better than my AC1200 wifi in my current situation now
