Cases are already sold out. But clever deal stacking!

  • Clever deal!

  • +7

    There’s levels to this game

  • Does anyone know if 'bestbud' promo code (15% off first time orders) stacks with ShopBack cashback (currently 12%)?

    • Nope but they have exclusive 10% off coupon SHOPBACK10

Your best bet will be Groupon, unless you are buying heaps.

      • Yep I messed up. Order was over $300 and both 'BESTBUD' and 'SHOPBACK10' max out at $30, so both would have had the same effect. Ended up using bestbud by mistake though, so concerned the 12% cashback won't track now :(

        • Cancel your order?

          • @Pricebeat: Doesn't seem to be an option to cancel the order online. Also will likely have the AMEX $30 credit cancelled then.

  • +1

    +1 for code stacking.
    Well done.

  • Calcs above are incorrect, because the groupon voucher ends up costing something.

Also, don't forget to use shopback/cashrewards for the final boozebud purchase too.

    • +2

Included the cost for voucher in title.

  • I thought the amex deal was targeted?

  • +1

    Fmd this gave me anxiety

Anyone else notice that all the whiskey prices have been jacked up and they're not replying to price match requests?

    • Most Whisky prices are quite reasonable but out of stock. I bought 2 JW green, 3 monkey shoulders, 2 15+ aged single malt and a Japanese blend using 5 Groupon voucher respectively

      • Reasonable = comparable to dan murphys, then yes … but not really comparable to Nicks.

        • Mate you cannot get best of both world. Cheapest marked price in Australian market then halve it by deals will be too good to be true.

For me the biggest problem is they don’t restock. Wish they have more JW green label

          • @kawara888:

Mate you cannot get best of both world. Cheapest marked price in Australian market then halve it by deals will be too good to be true.

They were happily price matching nicks and any other store on whiskylist.com.au … maybe they're just slow replying over the holidays or maybe they made a conscious decision not to price match … who knows?

      • Which Japanese? exactly what i was looking for but can't find

    • +1

The majority of prices are slowly creeping up….

Also you can get classed as a 'new customer' by just using a new e-mail address, nothing else has to be different.

    • email can be same as well if you are using gmail. just add a dot in your name somewhere.

      • +1

Does adding a dot to a Gmail address not change it?

        • Nope! for example your email is [email protected]
          you can use [email protected]

          • +3

@Pricebeat: But that’s not my email.

            • +1

              @muncan: your loss

              • @Pricebeat: Oh so you don't have access to it then

                • @DracoManX69: Email goes to your real account.

                  • +1

@Pricebeat: that is cooked why does gmail allow that

                    • @DracoManX69: Agree. But I guess it stops people getting confused between firstname.lastname and firstnamelastname

                    • @DracoManX69: Periods in your gmail do not matter at all. Just like capitals don't

                    • @DracoManX69: Allowing it prevents confusion and deliberate abuse; some notes provided by Google here.

You can also put a + then anything after it to create infinite addresses for yourself, more about that and why you might want to (aside from infinite boozebud new customer accounts) here.

                      • @ely: Shirley the alphabet isn’t infinite?

                        • +1

@muncan: Shirley it is, but given that you can just put one letter after another that's not a limiting factor ;) Just one letter is enough to give infinite variations if you can have a string of unlimited length.

While the specs don't seem to define a limit to the length of the local-part of an email address, I suspect that gmail does limit it (and if not, then boozebud probably does) so my "infinite" claim is probably not really true. Let's go with "far more than you are ever likely to need" instead :D

                          • +1

@ely: That sounds like a challenge hahaha

                          • +1

@ely: Wikipedia suggests the local part may be up to 64 characters long and the domain may have a maximum of 255 characters. But anyone can change that on Wikipedia so 🤷‍♂️
                            https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Email_address#Syntax

                            • @muncan: So it does. So we're a long way below "infinite" :( Still, 64 slots * ~94 ASCII chars (some restrictions on . and other chars seem to apply) gives you 6016 variations, and you can add UTF8 characters (which may take up to 4 bytes, so you might fit as few as 16 instead of 64) which would give far, far more options as well - I'm not up to figuring out exactly how many though :D

You can get Veuve Clicquot NV for $28.81 per bottle (4 bottles for a total of $115.22) if you're creative with this:

    1. Buy 2 of the Groupon $50 for $10 deals using coupon code EPIC and stacking with Shopback, net price $7.23 per voucher

    2. Buy 2 bottles of Veuve at $64.10 each: $128.20 total, 10% off is $115.38 with free shipping, add Groupon $50 off is $65.38

    3. Repeat with new Boozebud account and second Groupon voucher, use same Amex to ensure that you get the $30 statement credit

    $65.38 x 2 = $130.76
    + (2 x $7.23) = $14.46
    - $30
    = $115.22 for 4 bottles of Veuve

Assumes cashback won't work for Boozebud directly (which it shouldn't when using the Groupon code).

    • +1

Agree. $125 is the golden number. Find items above $125 and close to it.

  • Whilst these current Boozebud deals are amazing I have a feeling they are quite happy to sell at a loss with the end goal of totally destroying the competition…they are now owned by the worlds biggest beer company (AB inBev)

As someone who has been using the site for a while since it was a small startup (with quick postage!) and taking advantage of the new customer discount loophole I've noticed the actual individual prices of both beer and spirits is slowly creeping up. Enjoy it while it lasts I guess.

    • +1

I have a feeling they are quite happy to sell at a loss

I know some bottleshops that were buying cases of beer for ~$20/case last month on boozebud. They could resell those cases (because of their location and opening hours) as six-packs or cases for $80+ … they'd never make that sort of margin on cases directly from their wholesaler.

      • +1

They'd be mad not to….I usually don't even buy duty free now as I know I can get it cheaper from Booze Bud. Loving the deals but definitely some predatory pricing/deals going on to wipe out any online competition.

        • I usually don't even buy duty free now

Some of the 1L bottles at duty free still work out cheaper than boozebud … especially when they have a discount for buying 2 bottles or another promotion!

All the 700ml bottles can typically be found cheaper at boozebud, although their selection can be limited.

  • +4

Can’t get shopback cashback when using a voucher or discount code on boozebud. Doubt this will work as advertised as shopback/boozebud will reject the cashback claim.

    • +1

No harm trying. even then I didn't count that in Final price.

      • Fair enough :)

    • -1

I have successfully done it with cashrewards. I didn't try with shopback, because shopback sucks.

      • Two boozebud orders via cashrewards and another via shopback, all using coupons of some sort, will see how it goes. What's so bad about shopback?

        • +4

          What's so bad about shopback?

Legitimate claim didn't payout. They wanted all sorts of proof to escalate the claim, even though it was a known widespead problem.

The claim was eventually approved, but the transfer still took several days.

I haven't had these issues with cashrewards and I happily get the lower payout from them, just because it's more reliable.

          • @salmon123: Fair enough, thanks for the info.

  • Thanks OP for this one! Bought $200 worth of spirits for ~$80 after all coupons and cash backs.

  • +3

This is what finding the best deal (OzBargain or not) is all about.

Its about using a bit of problem solving skills, getting a bit creative and trial and error

    Kudos to op

  • +1

Shame I don't drink, but that's some serious ozb skills there..kudos

  • I never got the amex deal.
I do have the Groupon $50 vouchers from before when they were $5.

Best value for me is 2 x $100 spend, with 10% off each one, minus $50.

Works out about $19.50 each, per 3 bottles of Jim Beam.

I think my sums are right…..happy to be corrected.

    • Have to buy 4 bottles to get over $125 and free shipping. Otherwise it's another $12 for freight.

Still works out $19.85 each for 4 x Jim Beam. (Using the Groupon $50 voucher for $5)

    • 35.95 a bottle
have to spend 125 to get 10%off

      • Revised to 4 bottles for $79.42

Plus the $5 I paid for the $50 Groupon voucher earlier this month.

        Total $84.42 or $21.10 each

(Supposedly $9.53 cashback from SHOPBACK 12%, but apparently that's not guaranteed if you use a Groupon code)

  • unfortunately do not have Amex, any alternatives? thanks OP!

    • Just Groupon voucher and the discount that applies at cart. May be go into promo section and checkout discounted stuff

      • thought so, thanks. after a specific bottle of whisky though

        • Can’t remember whether you can use a voucher and a gift card at the same time but if you can then may be post in classified for someone to buy you a gift card with their AMEX if they aren’t using this offer.

          • @Pricebeat: ahhh good thinking. WOuld also be happy to transfer money to someone to purchase if they were so kind

  • This is amazing! Even without the Amex deal. Thank you!

  • Can't seem to add more than one promo code - ie, SHOPBACK10 (or BESTBUD) plus the groupon voucher promo code or am I missing something?

    • +1

You only need to Apply Groupon voucher. 15% off discount applies at cart if you have $200+ stuff in it.

  • Coopers Sparkling Ale cases for $50 sold out RIP

  • Thanks! Just used this deal for a nice bottle of Bollinger plus a small something else. The only question is whether Shopback will pay a cashback on Boozebud, since they exclude unlisted promo codes, and the Groupon voucher is applied as a promo code on the Boozebud site. Time will tell.

    • +1

I think it's up to Boozebud, not shopback, and they'd be a bit crazy to… but I have had some significant cashback be approved using unapproved coupons in the past, so who knows!

  • They restock some whisky, including Johnnie Walker green/black and some single malt

    • Yes good point

But at $70 johbny green is a bit expensive before discount

      • They keep in sync with Dan Murphy’s price. Anyway they end up can be bought as $43 per bottle before Cashback, still very low price.

  • This place is a (profanity) joke.
Ordered drinks for Nye party on the 18th and it has not arrived.
Basically 2 weeks and theyre telling me it will come next week. 3 weeks to get something posted from Sydney? How is this acceptable

  • any well priced reds?

  • Just received my order. Stocked fridge and ready for a good night.
