      • +2

        User name checks out.

  • ^ would other officeworks price match this? or even ebay?

    • Yes but I don't think with a photo.

    • can Amazon PM?

    • Are OW and target in partnership? Just called and rep said they have no stock but OW do. Then she tells me they don't stock it and it's an for the american target. Lel

Well they are both Coles Group companies I think …

  • -6

I guess its like NBN, slow as?

    • +5

They're decent enough if it's the only option you have, and if you get them for $10 you can't really complain. I have 3 in my house at the moment and they do the job.

    • -1

Best case I've seen them go is about 50mbit, it really depends how big your house is, condition of wiring, appliances connected etc.

    • -4

I am pretty sure this thing can provide more than 100Mbps speed, but it cannot compare with NBN…

    • I've always had a pretty negative opinion of these but I used ana pair d it was getting full speed when both plugged straight into the wall. I have had to put an extension cord on it and it gets 12mbs now. Results can vary widely.

  • These work well depending on what you're using them for. I have one connected to an irrigation controller on another floor of a house with oldish wiring in a house built in the 1800s. It never drops out.

When I did a speed test it peaked around 78mbit downstream but I suspect it would be better if they were closer to each other. Upstream unsure.

    • Agree with this. My old place has really old wiring and I was getting above 15MB/s file transfers but now in my 18 month old place I get 5MB/s over a similar distance.

  • Awesome price.

Of course they can support speeds of over 100Mbps, I’ve read that it can be comparable to 5Ghz band speeds (ie like 800Mbps). But whether you have the other necessary conditions to meet this is a different question etc cat6/7 Ethernet cables, nbn plan, network card, etc.

    • +9

why on earth would this require cat 6 or even cat 7 cables? I don't think you understand what those cables do

      • -4

Oh ok. I misunderstood powerline adapters to be honest. Direct Ethernet I’m fine with but I don’t have much experience with the former. I actually don’t know the physics behind how power line adapters work…

        • +1

FYI Cat 5e can handle 1Gbps fine. You'd only go Cat6/7 if you want 10Gbps

    • +2

No, they literally can't. The Ethernet ports are rated at 10/100 and therefore literally can't attain over 100Mbps.

Rang Target - Confirmed Nationwide. Limited stock in WA. I'm off to try my luck :-)

    • Me too. Gona try my luck in WA stores. It's going to be a busy day at shops!

    • Thanks! Going to get a few

    • +3

I grabbed the last 2 units at Gateways Success WA. Items were still badged at $49.99 but scanned at $10 :-) Thanks OP!!!

    • None in Target Fulham.

  • Damn left Mudgee to be back in Sydney over Xmas.

How much stock was left OP? Will swing by Boxing Day.

    • There was one left in the cupboard after I noticed… They might have more stock 'out the back'.

      Good luck!

      • Nup just swung by and guy said no more in stock - I haven't been the first to ask either haha

  • Nil stock at Fountain Gate, VIC or Dandenong, VIC
Only checked with those stores as I live between them so I would have gone and got one if one of them had it.

@Argenteus do you by any chance have a clearer photo, both stores asked me for the item code which is the long series of numbers starting with 6 above the barcode. I tried to use a barcode scanner app but it didn't pick it up. Might help if people are calling multiple stores.

      number is 6935364031886

      • I read the same from the photo. :)

  • +3

No stock at Castle Hill or Blacktown

    • Thanks. Was about to call them.

    • Anyone know about Parra or Merrylands?

  • None in the CBD store in WA - just checked

  • Called stores up NOR Perth and they all said they don't stock it or not on system. Might pay to go in store to visually check anyways

  • Nothing at Target, Melbourne CBD

I already have a TP-Link AV1200 powerline network, so I thought this would be a good way to get additional extenders. However looking at the FAQ on the TP-Link site the whole network slows down to the speed of the slowest extender. So probably not a purchase for me!

  • Nothing at Forest Lake, Mount Omaney, Browns Plains QLD.

  • +1

    None at Chermside, Brisbane.

They haven't stocked them in 9 months. So sounds like just the left overs available

  • None at Mornington or Somerville VIC

  • None left at Mudgee :(

  • Target carlingford don't even have any routers or range extenders.

Just two comments on these PoE adapters.

    1. These are the basic TP-Link units. Very popular about 5/6 years ago, but now surpassed by newer, faster models.
    2. Be prepared to give up a power point socket. They ARE bulky and can hog space on a multi outlet wall plate. Also, this model does NOT include a AC passthough socket.
    3. NEVER run these off a powerboard or an extension lead. The circuitry conflicts with each other. They need to be plugged directly to the wall outlet at both ends. No exceptions. The better choice are PoE adapters with AC passthrough sockets as mentioned above. That way if you wish to employ a powerboard, you plug the AC plug of the powerboard into the AC passthough socket of the PoE adapter.
    4. These units can struggle with old household wiring and long distances. In this instance, okay for streaming internet radio etc. and low bitrate video but a challenge for HD video and just forget about 4K video or online gaming… they are never going to cut it.
    5. On a positive note. If your internet needs are basic, and you are in rental accommodation, or premises which cannot be cabled with ethernet cable this is a reasonable solution. Long-term, they are NOT future proof for the ever-changing challenges that fast broadband or heavy demand NAS servers etc may throw up.
    • These are not PoE.

Disagree with your point 3. I used very similar (different brand) product on a basic power board for a year with no problems. I did some performance testing both directly plugged in to the wall and plugged in to the power board and there was no difference.

    • Both ends of mine are connected to powerboards and work fine.

    • I disagree with your two comments. You have five.

Tplink has Chinese government backdoor, avoid

    • +1

Better or worse than mandated Aussie government backdoor? Hmm.

      • +1

Yes don’t buy Aussie made routers too (there are none fortunately)
