Salt and Pepper Grinder That Will Last

I am sick of buying salt and pepper grinders that don't last, I am happy to spend a bit of money. Electric ones are all junk and don't last. We had a good one but it got lost on a BBQ and couldn't find anywhere that sold it, we found a copy of it, but that didn't last.

Can anyone recomend that will last.

I heard Peugeot ones are decent

I googled it and I typed peugot sal and google suggested "peugeot salt grinder not working"

      • Cole and Mason? When I worked in a department store, that brand was pretty popular.

I have had a set of these for 3 years, still going strong.

    • they are great but mine didn't last :(

    • I have 2 sets of Peugeot. had them for at least 5 years.

Both work, but the more expensive one like this https://www.everten.com.au/peugeot-paris-salt-mill-chocolate… grinds better than the cheaper one.

      They work very well.

The Saxa non-refillable ones seem to last years, they just don't look fancy on your table.

    • I think just going something cheap might be the go. I resent spending $50 on one for it to only last a couple of years.

+1 on these - the grinders work really well and it doesn't unscrew, on its own, like the reusable ones.

      • I had one. It broke.

        • You might've got a dud; the beauty is they are cheap so it wouldn't cost much to try again :)

For salt, buy one with a 'ceramic' mechanism. Plastic wears too quickly and any metal will corrode.
Cole & Mason are excellent products, many with a lifetime guarantee.
Also, for longevity don't use hard rock salt, but rather, soft salt flakes such as 'Maldon'.

    • is maldon iodized?

      • No. Nothing added

        • oh thats not good - iodine is really important.

          • @[Deactivated]: Iodine is important, but you only require a tiny amount. Unless you have a highly restrictive diet, then you don't need iodized salt. Processed food generally contains iodized salt, and seafood, dairy & eggs all contain iodine naturally.

            • @BOGOF: yeah my understanding is you need a teaspon of iodine in your life but evenly spread over your life.

I didn't know dairy and eggs and contain iodine - I have plenty of both of them.

  • any ikea one

    • Ooooohhhhh I love everything IKEA! I hadn't thought of them.

Very happy when I recently bought the refillable ceramic pepper grinder from this range, and they cost only $4.50 each. They are quite sturdy and probably will last a while.

  • Got a Cole & Mason combined s&p grinder picked up from a clearance place about 6 years ago now. Still working great. Everything I've owned prior usually crapped out after a year or two.

    • I think that was the good one we had but lost, then bought a cheap knock off that didn't last

  • Highly recommended Benzer from Victorias basement. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for with this kind of thing.

  • We have a set of IKEA grinders that have lasted a couple of years so far and are showing no signs of wear.

  • My Peugeot pepper mill is 15 years old and has never missed a beat. I don’t use a salt mill, I have a dish of cooking salt and another dish of salt flakes that sits with the pepper mill

  • We have a set of two, one salt, one pepper from Luvin life which have lasted two years without the salt clogging up which happens in Qld humidity. They are glass and stainless steel. I bought them from Cafe Nurcha, a health food shop at Maroochydore. It seems the manufacturer is local:
    https://www.luvinlife.com.au/

  • I have several sets(Electric & Manual) the Manual ones are around 25-30 years old & the Electric (Aldi from memory) would be coming up on 10 years(or however long they've been in Brisbane)

  • If you mostly plan to use it on the table, then Peugeot and Marlux are very long lasting. Traditional wood, any colour, any size you prefer. Neither brand is particularly cheap, but often cheaper in the sales. However, if you need to be able to grind salt or pepper over, say, a steaming pot of whatever, then the Peugeot Daman Pepper Mill 16cm ($78 at PofK), eg, is probably better (stainless steel, lacquer etc.), as it is easier to keep clean and anything under 16 cms makes it difficult to reach over hot pots etc. without risking a burn. Marlux makes these too.

  • I'm thinking of getting Peugeot - everyone has raved about it :)

    Boxing day sales please!

DJs will probably have them at 30% off as they do every Clearance.

    Peugeot.

I noticed many restaurants used them.

I bought 1 set. Then was happy enough to buy another set.

  • Hi Guys - spotted a bargain :)
