Gaming PC Recommendation

Hello Experts,
I’m looking for gaming pc for my son more than a month, still couldn’t find which one is better for me.
My budget is about $1,000 for pc.

I’m considering to buy this for $1,175 at the moment, please give me any advice. Good price? Good gaming pc for 11yo?

Wait for boxing day, maybe there'll be another 15% off deal

Thanks for the comment however, is this computer better than what I found?

      • CPU slightly better for gaming and has a HDD and better internals.
However, this one comes with a monitor and kbm, while also being $250 less. You can upgrade the parts if you want to but not necessary. I'd only buy a HDD

Thanks a lot. It looks kike the windows isn’t following however it really worth!

          • @Batman2258: These PCs will come with the unactivated version of windows. So if you want it activated you should only have to buy it and input the code.

Even then, better off saving the cash. You can still do pretty much everything you can do on normal windows 10, bar some customisation. There's also a watermark, but it's suprisingly tame. I don't notice it much.

Personally, I think the one you originally linked is a better overall package as it comes with better quality components and includes an operating system - but it is $300 more. The techfast systems are really good value for what you get, but you'll need to replace at least the power supply.

You'd save a few dollars by going with an AMD system like the following:

        https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/AMD-Ryzen-5-2600-1TB-120GB-SSD-8…

        • Thank you so much it really helpful to me.

          • @Batman2258: No problems. Overall the system you've linked is a really solid bit of kit.

I personally use the same CPU and had a slightly better GPU (GTX1070) and had no problems running any games at 1080p resolution. The tech.mall systems seem to come with above average components for the things that count (PSU is decent, and the vid card isn't a base model 1060)

    ….

  • I would go for Techfast build for best value by far - Substantially.

Those saying Techfast crap parts psu/mobo won't last long will blow up whole PC , are simply overstating it.
You can upgrade WHEN it fails and that's after the 2 years warranty.

That Techmall has crap psu too, yeah it's Thermaltake, but still super crap shit tier psu it has. The spec is probably shittier than Techfast no name psu.
So why pay more for shit PSU ?

    • .. that's a lot of shit…

    • I wouldn't say it's substantially better value - but it depends what you're after.
Comparing the two Ryzen 2600 builds above, there's a $200 difference.

For the extra $200 through techmall you're getting a better PSU, a better case (personal opinion), an operating system, and a 1060 instead of a 580 (Which performance wise might be fairly equal, but the street prices of the 1060 > 580 - especially for a Strix version)

Yes, you get a monitor a KB/Mouse with the tech fast system.

Don't get me wrong, I think the techfast system is great value - but I don't think it's substantially better.

check your maths , and that's even WITHOUT any ebay codes for Techfast.

and that Techmall Thermaltake PSU … 500w peak / 400w Max / Non-PFC / no 80+ / god knows how many amps for 12v rails.

How do you know it's better than Techfast no name psu ?

        • I was comparing the two Ryzen 2600 systems linked above. The tech fast version came to $873 (after discount) vs the one I linked which was $1091. That said, the techfast one originally linked included a monitor (unlike the one you just suggested) - but the 1060 version you've linked is obviously a better comparison.

Nobody knows which PSU is better as techfast don't specify which one they actually include, but based on the level of components in the techmall one I would hazard a guess that it's better. I'd always take a low end/OEM brand name PSU over a non-name one - but that's just me.

But comparing these two systems it is closer to $300 difference - for a better case, OS (Techfast charge $149 for Win 10) and knowing you'll get a Strix card (Which is about $100 more than the cheapest 6GB 1060).

Personally, I'd probably save the $$ and buy the techfast one and upgrade things as needed - however taking into consideration the nature of OP's original request - I'd still recommend the techmall one as I think it's a better out of the box package that has a similar cost and will not need anything replaced during it's life. Not everyone is comfortable opening up a case and tinkering.

          • @geech: Techfast one's no name. As per another thread pretty garbage, though I haven't tried it myself.

Mind that, with a 1 year warranty it should he fine. If it dies within that period, Techfast seem like a good enough company to swap the PSU for a better one if you buy it and ask them to throw it in. Otherwise, swapping out a PSU isn't the worst thing in the world.

The other one's a branded PSU…but ultimately still as mediocre. You'll want to swap anything not rated out sooner rather then later, if only for the improved efficiency.

For $153 more than the one you listed techfast has this https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Ryzen-5-2600-RTX-2070-8GB-120GB-…
RTX 2070 is alot faster than both the RX 580 and GTX 1060.

    • No OS on that and 120gb SSD will fill up very quickly, so it would be quite a bit more than $150

      • No OS rrp lumped in is a bonus, 5$ off ebay.

Those $5 keys are volume licenses and not intended for individuals. I'm not saying don't use them - screw Microsoft is my motto - but be aware of what you're getting.

        • I bought one from Kinguin for around 30, i wouldn't trust a $5 key.

          • @Jimmycfc: Wouldn't they all be the same? In that case, is it any different to getting it from KMSpico?

            • @follow: Not sure about that one, they're probably the same keys yes. However i bought from Kinguin because they put a guarantee on if it doesn't work they will give me a new one & they helped out with the activation.

      • Neither of the Builds mentioned in this thread feature a SSD larger than 120GB which isn't a huge issue since a secondary 2TB 7200rpm HDD is cheap even a 1TB SSD's are cheap now too.
No OS is a plus as mentioned as keys are cheap.

        $150 extra for a bump from a GTX 1060 6GB/RX580 8gb ($350 GPU) to a RTX 2070 ($800 GPU) is definitely worth it.

      • Techfast pc's have an unactivated version of windows 10 on them.

120gb SSD is easily fixable… specially when we're talking about a 2070 as the tradeoff.

  • It's a well-balanced system. It has the right amount of memory for gaming, a decent CPU, good storage, and reputable components. The only suggested upgrade is a 1070 instead of the 1060. I'd be very happy with a system like that for gaming.

  • looks like you didn't know much about gaming pc, then you're better go for something like dell or hp, for easier tech support.

any thoughts on this one? or may just not that cheap anymore

  • OP , Techfast currently has RTX 2080 PC build for $ 1,279
