Bought Item via eBay, Seller Location Australia (Item Shipped via China)

Hey
So I was looking at an item-
Chinese seller $2
Australian seller $5.30

I thought, I want it fast not 2-4 weeks.
I bought from Australian, weeks later it arrived from China.

Either seller misleads, or simply dropships

Is that within eBay policy? Just annoying I paid double and still came from China.

Thanks

Either seller misleads, or simply dropships

    Both

Let me guess. Was the item location Darwin or Chullora?

Did you read sellers feedback. Sometimes there are hints in there.

    • Yep spot on. Both of those locations 99% sent from overseas. Then they blame auspost lol.

Estimated shipping time is also a clue.. They often specify AU stock if the items are actually located here.

  • As above, look for:
    - estimated delivery time
    - location it's shipped from

Often you'll find that the same item is listed by many sellers but have an identical suburb and estimated delivery times that are around 2-3 weeks later than the items that are actually in stock in Australia

  • I've actually had this issue multiple times. I had one for a t-shirt that was <$10 overseas and ~$25 here. Bought the one from here and it took forever, clearly shipped from China. The most bizarre thing is when I left negative feedback it was then removed by Ebay.

If the seller can "prove" your feedback is false it can be removed. They probably provided a generic post tracking number or something and said you lied/were mistaken that it was sent from overseas.

    • u should have taken a photo of the packet you receive and report to eBay. I received many saying from Chullora or Darwin and reported to eBay

  • Can you give us the item page on eBay? I would be surprised if there are no clues there that it comes from China - I would complain if that is the case

There shouldn't need to be any "clues". eBay have a field for "Item Location" and that field should only be filled out as Australia (Or a suburb within Australia) if the item is actually located there.

I've had it happen a bunch of times when the seller says it's in Australia, but the post marks (and delivery timeframes) suggest it came from overseas. It's absolutely misrepresentation.

I find the ones that are genuine Australian stock for the cheapy items will have " AU STOCK" "SHIPPED FROM AUSTRALIA" plastered all over the listing. Kindoff take the ones that don't with a grain of salt.

  • Had this with a "new" Motorola Z2 Play I bought from "Victoria" which came from China or Hong Kong and was a Chinese version with unlocked bootloader. Listing has since been updated and now says it's a Chinese version, but still in stock in Victoria.
It was way cheaper than any other listing for it so I let it slide.

If you look at the FEEDBACK SCORE of the seller under Seller information on the right of the listing , it has a summary of since when they were a member of eBay, it also states what the country of origin is.
A lot of these sellers are in CHINA, which is unfortunate, however sauying that I have had some crazy fast shipping form China and some parts of Asia.

  • A lot of overseas sellers will list the item location as being in Australia, usually Darwin, but the account location is overseas.
Nothing wrong with that as it's possible that the items may be in Australia, say in a warehouse, unless they are actually shipping it from China. They will often use a freight forwarded located in Australia, so the package looks like it's local when it's not

Always open the seller's profile to see their actual location

  • Yeah this is very common, some sellers use a freight forwarder while others you can tell its just China ePacket. Won’t hurt to open a Paypal dispute saying the seller is using misleading information I know I have managed to get partial refunds from time to time. Never the less the shipping time will be faster if that’s what you’re keen on.

I've successfully raised disputes and gotten refunds.

Not cool when sellers to do this, especially when the prices are close to other AU stock sellers.

Sometimes you just want an item quickly and pay a premium for it, only to be shafted by dodgy sellers.

  • It's fraud, and technically tax evasion (GST). Just raise a dispute.

    • That's right. The buyer isn't paying GST when the item is listed as shipped from Australia.

      • The buyer isn't paying GST when the item is listed as shipped from Australia.

Huh? Do you mean that GST is already included (if applicable) when the item is shipped from Australia, whereas the item posted from overseas has GST added at the checkout?

      • But the seller should pay tax through their ABN that they don't really have if they are from China

        • GST is collected by ebay.

  • Dispute as not received…

well, you saved 20 cents GST though.

ps: Anything stated the location in Darwin, 99.9% it isn't.

  • I generally look at shipping time…if it is AU stock I would expect the item to say within 5 working days. if the item description says AU stock but takes 20 days to ship I would avoid or purchase knowing it will most likely come from overseas.

Tell them item arrived damaged or not working (they will have to refund). Say you do not want to wait, and bought from store, so you just want a refund.
On low cost item, they won't want you to return it, because they have to pay for return poastage, and return postage to china would be more than item is worth.
Yes, you would be being dishonest and lying to them. But they lied and deceived you, so in all fairness your doing nothing wrong by keeping it free of charge (by putting in claim for damaged item, or item not received).
Scam the scammer:) It does feel good. Even if it's just the extra $3.50 they scammed you out of, it still feels good to get them back.

      Sneaky but appropriate!
