If IH stands for Induction Heating, why write Heating after IH? 🧐

Also, this site has it for $199 with free shipping for the 4L rice cooker

Hi Op, this item is supplied by an Australian seller and the item location is listed as Sydney. Could you please provide the RCM number for this item?

You know damn well it doesn't have one. Why post this?

      • +1

It's unlawful to sell electrical goods in NSW that hasn't been certified. Op being an associate of the seller should know better than to list deals like this.

Rice cookers are declared articles and must have valid RCM. Selling these without an RCM is unlawful in NSW.

  • Works with Google home?

    • +2

Cooks rice for your Google Home

  • Ok i'm curious who actually spends this much on a rice cooker and if they've had better results.

I love rice but have always just had those generic bigw/kmart ones.

    • +3

It could be compared to instant coffee and a fully automatic cappuccino machine.

      It's all about the fluff.

    • U should try putting that comment on a tiger rice cooker post their $500+ machines and you will get a flood of people telling you that it is far superior

      • Far out $500 for a rice cooker. It better be plugged directly to a rice dispenser and water tap so I don't even have to do anything.

    • Got a Philips 'grain master' for under $100 a few months ago. Fuzzy logic etc etc…. the rice that it makes is really excellent. Had a dinner party last night and got many compliments. Wouldn't pay $500 or even $200 but for around $100 it is definitely worth it.

      • Does it do slow cooking? the mrs wants slow cooker and rice combo

      • Xiaomi in Hong Kong sells this cooker for hk$549 (https://m.buy.mi.com/hk/item/3173000019) which equates just less than A$100. Unfortunately they haven't officially come to Australia so we have to pay double to a middleman for shipping and handling and extra profit. Or go for a local product like the Philips, which I did too when it was on special at DJ some months back.

      • Does it do congee, steam, brown rice, multigrain and slow cook?

A good rice cooker should be able to cook the rice for >45m without burning it or leave a crust on the bottom of the pot. The rice should be warm and steamy with a full fluff.

      • My father in law still has his tiger he brought 30+ years ago when he first migrated here through HK… still going strong… Very basic tho haha just one button on it

    • I've gone through about 4 of those Kmart etc cheap rice cookers. They all eventually die, and all leave a crusty layer of hard rice on the bottom. I bought a Xiaomi in the hopes it'll last, and give an even cook. The rice tastes much nicer, but takes much longer, but doesn't spatter everywhere like the cheap ones always did for me. I am not sure it's $150 worth of better rice, but it's certainly a better experience (plus you can put it on and go watch TV and your phone will beep when it's ready).
The tricky thing I found was you're supposed to set your city so it knows what altitude you are to know what pressure to go to relative to ambient. I spent hours trying to Google up a city in China with the same altitude as Canberra. Not sure if that's been fixed recently. I can now choose Sydney as a time zone in the app so maybe there's more cities available.

OMG! I'm just gonna pop my tinfoil hat on and not comment any further on this…

This is not the expensive version it is not a bargain remove please.

    • +4

That's not how Ozbargain works. If you don't think it's a deal you hit the little red minus button on the rating and write a comment about where you can get it for this price or better elsewhere, or something to the effect of saying this is just a standard price for this.

  • Cheaper on eBay with 10% off today.

Also pretty sure it’s cheaper in the Xiaomi shop in Chatswood NSW.

Cheaper. And it isnt just a bog standard rice cooker like ones you get from Kmart etc

OTOH Wish that store had more of the popular items in stock (lot of Out of Stock notices).and oh the price for Mi Band 3 is a bit of a ripoff imho. Anyone complaining about the price of these cookers ought to look at the prices for Japanese and Korean made ones ouch (arguably worth it if you talk to asians who use them regularly - there IS a difference).

  • Better off spending a bit more on the pressure version
